Aye, 200 blocks seems a bit extreme.

I found 2 pigmen during the day and they did not attack me (one at a time but both were within sight) till I was at least 15 blocks away. It's was during the day though. I would love it if it was 200 blocks but im not feeling it.

Because of the way Minecraft works, entities in a chunk that is not loaded will not have any events. Basically a Pigman outside anyone's view distance won't be doing anything.

So, realistically, Pigmen only lock onto you from 50 blocks away, maybe even less.

I just feel sad that they don't drop cooked porkchop...no free food except rotten flesh...eww.
