OOC: Ummm... We may make a different application for 'dark' mages. With different application questions etc...

OOC: Sounds silly in my opinion. A waste of good RP'ers and if someone truly wants to be an evil mage they should just join the undead.

Otherwise it'll just be bandits + magic.

It's not silly. Being undead is difficult and that's like saying if you want to be a good mage join the ascended. Not all people want to be undead, and some just wish to be evil. It's not a waste of good rp'ers as they were probably already evil. Though I agree that Dark magic applications should be implemented for EVIL characters who worship Iblees or are magically evil in another way and not just plain bandits.

OOC: I think a dark mage could be good if they were actually a GOOD RPer. Maybe a mage who doesn't want to become undead, but will work with them. Or a mage who breaks the "neutrality" of the Guild and works with specific races or groups. One of the problems with magic is in its current form, it doesn't recognize who killed you with the magic. So it could wind up with a lot of no-rp PvP happening if everyone was an evil mage.

But if a dark mage actually happened to pop up, I would want it to happen NATURALLY. Not like them going "lol gonn be a dakr mage!!22!". (AKA, I don't want people who JOINED THE SERVER to be a dark mage or put in their apps that they were gonna be one. I want them to be maybe morally corrupt mages who slowly become more evil as time progresses.) Maybe them pretending to be good in order to learn magic, then turning traitor, or they start off as good and slowly become corrupted and then turn on the guild/mages. But I think anyone who wants to be a "Dark" mage should have to have a villain app up to the level of betrayal and to have been accepted into the Mage's Guild(though they may not stay in the guild, it makes for good RP and it makes more sense since we will have the best knowledge concerning magic, so an "Evil" mage would obviously try to get as much of that as possible.).

OOC: This would work. ^

Just don't want random necromancer/bandit camps all around and some guy naming himself Mannimarco.

Fun idea I'm tossing around here... What if the mages, as a whole, were neutral? Individual mages are good, evil, etc, but the Mage Guild itself is a neutral force... So basically a Lawful Neutral organisation, to use the D&D terminology. That way, you could feasibly avoid all these little mage towers all over the world by dark wizards by having them welcomed under the same roof as regular wizards.

Think the Guild in the first Fable game. Although that IS a bad example, considering that at the end of that game, the Heroes' Guild is burnt down to ashes by someone who, when you think about it, was still a member right up to his death, and all the subsequent games lament the lack of Heroes in their time period...

...

Okay, so VERY bad example. Don't want anyone with a flint and steel doing that to the Mage's Guild... Although it's most likely mostly made out of stone, the building, so not as flammable as that example's building, which was doused in plotroleum.

Im sorry about this Ogland, keep in mind it was the undead's doing.

If you want to join our new project, youre welcome. But we need some time to get started first and want to keep it hidden for now.

Hope you learn as much about magic as possible in the meantime.

They are building a new town. You could be a guildmaster there. Also I'm interested in becoming part of the mages guild when you are accepting members.

Not exactly a town this time ;), something more uniqe, and worthy of beeing raised in the magnificent world of Aegis.

Though, it still might be a interesting spot for a mage guild to exist.

I can't wait to see it.

The Mage's Guild is neutral. We also operate on a solely defensive base unless we're given the go-ahead to become offensive for an attack, which isn't often. So I, for example, whenever confronted am not allowed to attack offensively, only in defense. We're also not supposed to ally with any of the races in the event of a war. We defend Aegis against people who want to destroy it, like the undead. And, at times, being defensive is more effective than going on the offense. However, we likely will be -very- sketchy about letting in any "Iblees worshippers" or other variants of that kind, simply because we are technically aligned against the undead hordes and don't want to accidentally let in someone who might become undead later and turn on us. But if a Guild is neutral it expects its member to be neutral, and as such it wouldn't make a lot of sense for a neutral guild to let in an evil mage, now would it?

Ah, I get it now.

Incidentally, I think there should be some form of trial in-game... Basically a strategy-based test before joining the guild... Just a thought that's running through my head... Maybe 3 chambers, the 1st being a quick-thinking test, where you have to do something tricky, like dodge some spells (If you can dodge a lightning bolt, you can dodge a ball!), the 2nd being a riddle contest (What paralyses creatures, creates fear and grief when it passes, and ends all things? (Yeah I know, easiest riddle ever. Death.)), best out of four, and the 3rd being a cake eating competition against any current member who happens to be just hungry. (Why cake? Well, why not?)

There are already numerous trials in place... What do you think I am? And I must say they are a little more though out and selectively deceptive than yours.

I was just wandering but could someone with a bad past make it into the mages guild? :?:
