Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name: Orlanden

How old are you?: 21

Time-Zone/Country of Residence: -5 GMT/United States

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: Grammer and spelling are definitely a strong point of mine.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: For starters, my name is Nathan Payne. I'm originally from West Virginia, but I am moving to North Carolina on July 13th, 2012 to attend UNCW majoring in Marine Biology and Conservation. Some hobbies of mine include hunting, fishing/spearfishing, SCUBA diving and free-diving, boating, staying up to date on movies and music, and playing video games. I also plan to learn to surf within the next year or so.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?: 20+ hours

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: To me, roleplaying means living another life as another character. You can be whatever you can imagine. I, personally, like to be a wandering noble. Very mysterious, although quite meticulous in my own manner. Although I do not go looking for trouble, I stand my ground and defend myself instead of being pushed around.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: Most of my roleplaying experience comes from World of Warcraft. I got into minecraft because of it's sandbox creativity and now I want to delve even further with the roleplaying experience. I was on a server called Aretecraft for a short time, but it was not very good at all. I've been looking, but I've just yet to find a server that really 'awes' me. This one seems like it very well could, though.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: Meta-Gaming is the act of using OOC information that would otherwise be non-obtainable IC to influence a certain character's actions. Using and abusing information in this way is basically asking for punishment. All in all, OOC information should be kept OOC, and IC info should be kept IC. It makes for extremely bad roleplaying, if you can even call it that at all.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Emoting is: Power-Emoting, in my opinion is when a player emotes that they had done something, whether it was an attack or defense, in which it is completely unrealistic and outlandish. It takes away from the purpose and fun of realistically roleplaying.

What do you expect this server will be like?: I have a couple friends who play here and from what I've seen and they've told me, I expect it to be the RP experience I've been searching for.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: I've taken a fairly long leave of absence from Minecraft and cannot remember the name of the server I was on. It was a long and awkward name, but I left it because of school, work, and it just wasn't 'tickling my fancy', if you will.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: I have.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: I promise.

How did you hear about us?: From friends who are already on the server.

Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?: I have not.

In-Character:

Character Name: Relvin Courden

What Race are you? (You may only be Human, Orc, Elf or Dwarf!): Human

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): I've not yet decided.

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):

I left home at a very early age. My father mysteriously left when I was barely old enough to walk, so it was just my mother and me from then on. I expected my mother to be mad at my father and hate him for leaving us, because that's what I thought he did. She wasn't however. I think she knew he didn't really want to leave us. I found that out a few years later. He was made to leave us. I always had the urge to simply wander. My mother said I inherited that from my father. I wanted to see everything, learn everything, and experience the world all on my own and thankfully my mother understood that. I left home when I was only 15 years old, but returned to visit my worrying mother every time I was close enough to do so. Aegis was a big place, but by the time the undead attacked and destroyed it, I had traversed almost all of the land and encountered many different situations, but at the same time, made a great number of friends.

As the undead continued to ravage the world, the people of Aegis prepared for a long journey on ships crafted for each nation and several factions. We all left the only life we knew behind as we sailed to this new world. My mother is long since dead, so I have nothing nor anyone holding me back from anything anymore. I can make out my life as I see fit now without worry about too many others. Most of my friends were on other ships, but I hope to meet back up with them at some point in the new world. Not long after we depart from Aegis, I go below deck to rest my head. I hadn't slept in days with the undead running amuck. I was woken by the sound of the ship's first mate yelling to the rest of the passengers that we had made it. "We've made it!", he shouted, "We've made it to Asulon!". This is the first time I've heard the name of our new world, but I thought it had a nice ring to it. I got out of bed and threw on my casual attire. It consists of brown leather boots, blue linen trousers, and a white wool shirt. I made my way above deck after grabbing my sword, bow, and the rest of my effects. I had the realization as we, in a single file line, made our way off the ships that this is the beginning to a new chapter in my life. I just hope the rest of Asulon is ready for it, too.

What are your Character's ambitions?: Knowledge, mostly. Relvin loves to learn.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): A sword or a bow, for sure. Relvin would never leave home without either.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? His charisma.

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?

I make my way up to the men and ask what their purpose is and attempt to intervene. I am rather skilled with it comes to charisma, so I am able to talk to these men and make them leave the halfling alone. I make sure he is alright and upon telling his name, assuring me he is fine and telling me that what I just witnessed is a normal occurance, he invites me back to his home in Riverbend.

After walking for an hour or so, we arrive at his beautifully built home nestled in the mound of earth close to a tall oak hanging over a small stream. After introducing me to some of his neighbors, he invites me inside for a glass or two of wine, and I gladly accept. Not thinking it through, therefore not expecting it, I have to bend over quite a bit to even fit inside his home. I find a comfortable place to sit and take in some fruity halfling wine. We talk for a while, laughing and admiring each other’s stories until we find ourselves having taken down three full bottles. He invites me to just stay the night, so I do not have to walk home drunk, so I lay down and cover up with a few small blankets he gives me. When morning comes and I awake, he has a wonderful breakfast cooked up as a sweet yeast smell fills his home. After eating and bidding him thanks and farewell, I make my way back to my own home. Thank God for friends.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

"I am looking to buy some wine. I was at a friend’s home just the other day and he had bottles of Green Bottom Wine. I can say with honesty, it was the best drink I have ever had the pleasue of tasting. I was told if anyone had some to sell in these parts, it was you", Relvin said. After taking a moment to look through his inventory, he replies, “Sorry, friend, I am fresh out. However, I can tell you how to get to Green Bottom. As it is where it’s made, you’ll surely be able to buy some there.”

After telling me the exact route, I begin making my way. First, I take the ship from the Sanctuary docks to the Elven capital of Normandor. From there, I take another ship to the lands the Elves recently acquired. Upon leaving that ship, It is straight north about 300 steps.

When I arrive there, there are signs everywhere leading me to the winery. It’s apparent they are quite fond of their superior wine. I find the building and standing outside, tending to his dogs, is a halfling in bib overalls. I greet him, tell him my name, and state my business. He says he is Milo Merryfoot of Green Bottom. We stand there and talk for a bit and I tell him my story of how I found out about GBW and how I gained the knowledge of the town itself to make my way here. He then starts showing me around and gives me a tour of the winery. Upon selling me a crate of wine for a quite discounted price, he gives me five more bottles for free. I’ve come to know that halflings are a very nice and very happy people!

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:

I take what is useful to me. I strap the golden sword to my belt, place my iron one in the chest, and place the iron bars in my satchel. I leave a note saying, "To whom ever these things belonged, much thanks. They will be of great use to me."

I get back home and use my anvil and hammer to form the iron bars into a nice iron pick and axe. I take them to the nearby town of Arethor and sell them to the local armory to make a few quick minas.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you in the common tongue, how do you respond?

I act out with my hands and body that I need water and food. If they do not understand that, I will break a twig from a nearby tree and draw them some type of food or livestock in the dirt and then point to my mouth. They seem to know what I am trying to say, now, so they bring me a leg of beef and place it before me on a large jungle leaf. I just look at them, not sure what they are getting at. They gesture to me to eat it.

After thinking for a moment, I cannot believe they want me to eat this meat raw. One man picks up the meat and takes a bite of it himself, trying to show me it’s fine. I gesture to them to follow me and I take the meat over to their firepit. I find two sticks in the shape of a Y and another straight twig which I shove completely through the meat. I then place it on the Y shaped sticks and let it hang over the fire. In my satchel, I have a few herbs I picked a day or so ago whilst wandering. I use those to season the meat as it cooks.

Once it’s done, I cut off pieces for all to try and begin passing them out. They put the pieces of juicy cooked beef in their mouths and a look of surprise and excitement comes over their faces. They love the cooked meat, which apparently they have never had before, so we all take part and finish the leg of beef before I continue wandering onwards. I gesture to them thank you and be safe, and start out into the wilds once more.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:

Knowing it is the right thing, I offer my assistance to the guard. I wait for any orders and then respond to them in a respectable manner. The call doesn’t come until a day later, but they supply me with guard’s armor and weaponry. We set out to take down the band of criminals only to find upon our arrival, there outpost is abandoned...or so we thought. It was an ambush! The bandits sprung from the bushes and the trees taking out five guards immediately. With only four of us left, we fight vigorously, but it seems we are all about to meet our doom.

At the same time, a guild of mercenaries from the Elven lands are passing by the road and hear the ruckus. When we spot them, we yell for their assistance as one bandit turns and plants an arrow in the soldier standing beside the guild leader. Without hesitation, they join the fight and we are finally able to make quick work of the bandits and completely wipe them out. The remaining guards take all the valuables from the dead and from within their safe house before making their way back to town. The mayor of the town says they may keep the loot as reward for their bravery. I get paid a measly 100 minas for almost losing my life, but I still have the pride of helping rid the area of some evil.

Anything else you would like to say?: I look forward to playing on this server! Thank you for taking the time to read my application. I hope you enjoyed and thought highly of it.
