Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name: Semperosa

How old are you?: 16

Time-Zone/Country of Residence: EST Time zone, United States

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: Yes, I do.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: I'm in High School, and I am fairly mature, most of the time. I can write two sentences, usually.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?: Several hours, probably.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: I've roleplayed for several years. Roleplaying is playing a character and considering the opinions and thoughts of that character and not your own.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: As I said above, I have been roleplaying for several years. I started on free forums and then started doing it in MMOS and games. I've roleplayed everything from text based to neverwinter nights style.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: Metagaming is using information that should not be known by your character in roleplays.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Emoting is: Power Emoting is forcing other players to abide by your roleplay, or taking control of their character by phrasing statements to imply acceptance by their character. The In-depth guide says that by this you mean Powergaming, which is a bit different from what I know of power-emoting. If that is what you wanted me to give a definition for, here it is: Losing touch with roleplay by trying to become the greatest person out there.

In your own Words, define what Out of Character (OOC) is: Out of Character is all non-roleplay talk and action. It shouldn't be used for roleplay, because that is Metagaming

In your own Words, define what In Character (IC) is: In Character is the process of using the thoughts and feelings of your character to decide upon actions, instead of your own opinions.

In your own Words, define what the difference between RP and RPG is: An RP is a story and world that the players come up with. The players in the RP create a world for themselves and others to 'live' in. An RPG is a story created by a company or group that handles all of the events and actions. Players have less control over the events, and little control over any lore.

What do you expect this server will be like?: I believe that the server will be an immersive fantasy world, where everything is roleplay from the ground up.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: Minesworn, Massivecraft, NationCraft. I left Minesworn because of griefers. I left MassiveCraft ( 200 slot pvp factions server ) because I owned almost all the factions on the server and it was a headache. I have not left NationCraft as it is my own server, for friends.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: Yes.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: Yes

How did you hear about us?: A friend who has not applied yet told me about this server

Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?: No, I have not

In-Character:

Character Name: Adam Di Silvari

What Race are you? (You may only be Human, Orc, Elf or Dwarf!) : Human

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): Northerner

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): Adam is in his late twenties, and lived with the Traveling Merchants for most of his early life. This made him fairly savvy in business. This skill in business is rather markedly his only real skill, other than perhaps slightly above average intelligence. He is by no means a scholar or a warrior, and has only the charisma that he acquired from a decade of watching salesman sell their product.

Adam is a fairly average looking Northerner, with blond hair and dark green eyes. His skin is actually quite pale, even though most of his life is spent outside. His eyes have a rather unsavory shine to them, speaking volumes about his character. He is the type that cheats at dice for the fun of it, though he is not really a criminal - murder and theft is still abhorrent to him. His nose is rather long and pointed, which when combined with his eyes produces a rodent-like appearance.

As a boy in the Fair, he saw people from all around the world trading exotic goods. Prices ranged from negligible to far beyond anything he could conceive of. The constant flow of goods through the marketplace influenced him greatly: he became less interested in the goods themselves and more interested in the common factor of coins being exchanged.

After his childhood in The Merchant Fair, he bade farewell to the family he had known and traveled to Solace. The economic downturn had begun in the area, and he found few prospects for trade, but he managed to eke out money to live. It is becoming harder and harder for him to feed himself however, and he is currently looking to move into a less expensive house, which he wants to share with one or two others, so that they each pay only a third or so of the cost. Increasingly his future looks dire, as wily scamming of traders is becoming harder to do in a place tight on money. Even simple peasants negotiate like fiends for their crops.

What are your Character's ambitions?: Adam's ambitions are fickle, and he has few long-term goals. Nothing drives him to reach the heights of excellence, but he does enjoy earning Minas through haggling and trade. The earning of coin is less greed and more in the nature of a game: at his core he enjoys haggling wealth from others, as he sees it as 'winning' a game of intrigue. He is generally seen as not intelligent enough to be more than a market haggler, but it makes him happy so he does it. Little beyond day to day haggling of a few extra coins interests him, but if he sees a business opportunity he is sure to take it. Generally he has no ambition, but if an opening for something is thrust upon him, he will pursue it.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): The character prefers the sword, simply because back-alley negotiation can turn violent if one does not know how to defend oneself. He is no great warrior that marches off to glory. Generally his use of the sword is mediocre, though adrenaline is quite empowering when it comes to skill. He can ward off a few clumsy attacks by a drunken brawler that is angry enough to draw a weapon, but in a real fight with a competent foe he would be better off running.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? Adam's only real talent is his charisma when negotiating or convincing others to accept a deal he has proposed. This serves him well in the filthy back alleys of places in which he thrives. He has enough intelligence to put schemes together, but nothing that would distinguish him as a scholar. His martial talent is negligible and he has little use for fighting, preferring to scheme. So far, he has managed to avoid any real fights, though he has lived a life full of drinking in taverns. A rather uncanny sense of when to leave the area is a good compass when one doesn't have the strength to back up ones disreputable actions.

Other Information about your Character:

Open-Response-Questions

Each and every question must be answered with a minimum of a single full paragraph and entirely in RP.

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond? Adam slowly walks backward and watches the events unfold. He is confident that neither of the warriors see him. If indeed the warriors are robbing the halfling, and they don't murder him, he will wait until they are finished. When the warriors leave, he will continue forward and stumble upon the Halfling. Upon asking the halfling what happened, he will express his deepest sympathies and suggest that they go back to the cloud temple and take shelter there. He takes charity from the monks for himself and the Halfling, the poor unfortunate travelers, and then leaves with a full belly.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response? Eying the man's wares curiously, he tries to guess at their worth. He then asks about the Merchant's prices, and what a specific item is worth. The item in question is a fairly valuable looking trinket. When the merchant gives him a price for the item, he looks stricken and loudly says "These prices are outrageous! I've studied metalsmithery for years, and that trinket is obviously a disgusting forgery! You pawn off an obvious fake, and still expect me to pay a wildly inflated price?!". He is somewhat obviously bluffing, but he hopes that this shaming of the merchant will result in a lower price. He has no need for the trinket, but perhaps he can sell it outside a tavern somewhere. Drunkards are easy to negotiate with.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?: Adam tries the door, and finding it open, walks inside. He sees the valuables inside and deliberates for a moment. Then he pockets one of the iron bars, and leaves the rest. He can convince himself that because he merely took one, it wasn't really a crime, just a bit of good fortune that he stumbled upon. Adam investigates the shack for information on the seemingly previous owner. Finding little of note, he leaves the shack, taking care to arrange everything as it was when he came, and close the door after him. Perhaps, if the hut still has an occupant, they will think that they merely misplaced one of the bars.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond? Adam greets them back, repeating their greeting. He then asks if he could impose upon them for a bit of shelter, as he was sent by the monks of the Cloud Temple to look for one of their number who is lost in the area. Assuming that his lie isn't caught, he plans to spend the night using their hospitality towards one doing the work of the famed Cloud Temple. Then, refreshed, he will continue his journey. Later he will tell stories of the gullible traders in the woods, laughing with his companions over watered-down ale in a disreputable tavern.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?: Adam hears news of the reward offered by the town guard, as he keeps up on information published by that particular entity, to protect himself from possible imprisonment over some pesky rule. He immediately heads to a tavern and gathers a few of the more thick-headed warriors there to 'embark upon a quest for glory, fleshing out the putrid bandits nearby'. He does not mention any sort of reward for it, saying that the only real reward is fame, and there will be plenty of that in this enterprise. With any followers acquire in tow, he goes to the guard captain, and speaks with him privately, offering their services as a band of adventurers. Taking the payment for all of the warriors that he has encouraged to join, he leaves the guard Barracks. He also considers going to the bandits and warning them of the coming strike in exchange for cold hard coin.

Anything else you would like to say?: I see Lordofthecraft as an immersive and full world. I have gone around as a Wandering Spirit to look at the towns and cities of the continent, and I'm impressed by how full the world is. Heading in virtually any direction one comes across a bandit keep or a trading post of gaily colored tents. I would love to be a part of this expanding world and add my voice to the hundreds of others roleplaying in this server.

There are a few errors in your application - the biggest of which is the definition you have used for your power-emoting definition - but since I shall have to give you the benefit of the doubt over a small error in the in-depth analysis you referred to I shall attempt to strike a deal with you.

You see, the question used to be: "In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is". the problem with that was power-gaming has quite a few too many definitions which caused quite a large headache for applicants who struggled to find the correct meaning, and thus it was changed to "Power-emoting" which was, to say the least, quite a bit more specific.

However, when I updated the guide I failed to note that I had left the wording in the explanation of the question as "Power-gaming", and thus your confusion arose.

I shall contact you in a PM to ensure that the correct definition of power-emoting is know by you as to avoid any... unnecessary situations in the future.

But your skills in roleplaying as well as your grip on the English language both are far above average, so without further ado...

WELCOME to Lord of the Craft! :)

Accepted.
