A Dark End

Ser Athirius of houses Owl and Silverblade finishes strapping on his chestplate, and walks through the door of his manor, heading to Arethor for yet another day of protecting the emperor, as the Lord Commander of the Imperial Dragon Guard. As he strolls over the hill that leads into the forest just outside Ager, a crossbow bolt flies seemingly out of nowhere and hits his chestplate, bouncing off harmlessly. Alarmed, Athirius moves his hand to his sword and begins to draw it. Halfway out of the sheath, another bolt flies towards him, planting itself deep in Athirius's wrist. He cries out in pain as the bolt hits him, stumbling back and letting go of the sword. A third bolt flies towards him, hitting him in the upper thigh. Athirius looses balance and falls backwards, landing on his ass. He begins an attempt to crawl away from the direction from which the bolts are flying, but realizes he is too late as he see's a red haired, muscular dwarf strolling out of the forest towards him, reloading his crossbow as he walks. As the dwarf nears him, Athirius makes a grab for his sword with his left hand, but is too late and is struck by another crossbow bolt in the elbow. The dwarf walks up to Athirius, loading another bolt into his crossbow, and kicks him with all his might in the stomach. Athirius cries out in pain, winded, then brings himself forward to block another kick. The dwarf chooses to go for his head this time, and rams his leather boot into the side of Athirius's head, knocking him onto his back. Athirius pants heavily, and brings himself to stare into the dwarf's face. "Who.... Are you...?", he brings himself to say. "Uldiir Frostbeard", replies the dwarf, "Ye killed ma woife, now a'hm returnin' tha favor". With that the dwarf places the crossbow to Athirius's forehead, and lets his last bolt fly.
