Is this thread specific to the city's construction? Because I would believe it beneficial to focus more on how your RP will be focused, where it is in respect to major landmarks (CT, other cities), and how you can best bolster and enhance RP as well.

No, this is for everything and anything pertaining to the Dwarves future in 3.0. Our major goal as always is to increase Dwarven RP. Which lately, has been picking up greatly.

The city should foster guilds, religion, etc. Small districts should develop, albeit in an organized way, to house factions the larger they get, thereby allowing for player growth, no? I enjoyed Mediocres Post and idea for city style, although the current Minecraft blocks seem to fight against you each time we try something of that style. Perhaps the server wide texture pack can fix that? I intend to join 3.0 as a stonemason... Something a bit simpler, as we don't seem to have enough basic jobs around the cities, but I digress... I also intend, if I'm allowed, to start statue and masonry projects as needed around the lands to add a bit of "culture" to the empty mountains. Hopefully this time all of this can have a bit of charm to it and we can enjoy the play made character that we will give to our new home.

You have the right idea, Darius. Strong support for guilds, shops, and various factions is an essential part of fostering an effective RP experience within a city. Having a central core where others can interact with these groups, whether they be outsiders or locals, is a truly great experience. Nobody wants to RP with the same people over and over again; having this injection of RP is beneficial.

Agreed. The fire at the refugee camps in 1.0 worked quite well, as well as the town square in Oren... Although it was a bit messy around the city, it had a nice feel to it... Perhaps a council funded tavern with a large central fire/table where people are visible and can see each other? Then again, from what I've seen, people like to stand up and talk, then have the option to sit on a bench.

I have a idea of seperating the city into two main sections and then a road in the middle connecting them. The sections will be rich and the middle/low income. The road will be the trade shop area. The main rp hub will be near the entrance with a tavern and two major shops.

If you're going to limit it to two major shops, you have to make sure they're constantly functioning and the they bring something to the table that will foster trade. Perhaps the Smithing/Mining guild run a shop and split the profits in whatever way they see fit. Perhaps the HQ for the Mining Guild is placed somewhere in the large shop room and on the outside are a few bustling furnaces being used to train new recruits (I hope both guilds can maintain a serious structure with the shift in worlds).

There's a certain level of professionalism that I really hope we can achieve, as I've yet to see it yet... Perhaps I'm being too much of a neat freak... I've just always hoped we could build a cohesive working city even better than those in 1.0 and more structured. Again, I digress... Splitting the city into two districts is a tough task. You need to make sure both are managed and managed well. Make sure there are limited entrances and pathways throughout the districts. The city should be slightly linear, in order to direct people through paths and foster social events. Expand side streets as necessary, maybe when the population hits a certain amount? Within every few expansions, try to set up a guild house or perhaps something else to sell off. Contact someone... Maybe a traveling circus to set up their Head Quarters within the city?

Also, just an idea, but I suggest using the area (if we have one) for more than just fights. As I mentioned, a circus could work well. Trade fairs, farmers markets, anything to foster RP. Events need to take place in both, scripted and not. So RP has to be fostered. A thief rumbling through someones house in the poor district? A bank robbery? A funeral service? I know it's a tough task being king, I'm just quite excited to see what we can do this time around. If you can actually get that done, I'll be impressed, as the task of running a "perfect" kingdom is quite daunting... As the LOTC population grows, it's going to get harder and harder...

I firmly believe that upon making the mountaineers, tere needs to be mountain passes and stations. Small forts atop certain mountains where the mountaineers could position themselves.

Mountaineers being the recon/patrol the lands sort've force. Of which I am leading. From what I've heard we mountaineers and the normal infantry are the two major parts of the dwarven military SO FAR.

Could be interesting. How do you intend to set up the hierarchy for the group? There should be some interesting quirks to the group, no? Perhaps every member receives a bird and trains with it? A system of medals? I'm not sure... I just think it may be beneficial to have an organized RP, yet have some interesting quirks for people to expand on them with their own RP.

I was thinking something along the lines of:

-Mountaineer Captain- Leader of the group, often has a large animal for a pet.

-Mountaineer Officer- Officer underneath the Captain. These are distributed over the stations with their own squad of 3-5 men.

-Mountaineer- An arch type over the two sub-types.

-Ranger Mountaineer- Long range primary soldier.

-Melee mountaineer- Melee weaponry.

Each unit will probably get their own bird, yes. I was thinking owls.

Among the mountaineer post Raglin, I think it's a strong idea to have posts along the roadsides, that connects the two areas.

We would dictate who passes, along with handling any villainous acts that occur on the outskirts of the cities, in the mountain region.

[[ lol'd at the large animal for pet]]

Post ideas about plants or animals you wish to have. Any lore behind them will make my time easier as well as the occulas guys.

I think we should start getting wolves as pets, since we are going to live in snowy mountains.

Bears, we need bears! I can write lore up as to how it happened but whatever the case it needs to happen.

Agreed. Mountaineers and their "tracking" wolves. Mountaineers are conditioned to severe climates in dwarven lands, and would greatly need beast companions for assistance with tracking.
