Hello, and welcome to the Halfling Flora and Fauna Idea Thread for the 3.0 region we will be inhabiting! First off, I will say that I am not allowed to leak photos of what the map will look like, but to repay for that I will give a brief description -

The land is very green, hilly, and nestled in between a range of mountains. Many rivers run throughout it, along with a few streams, ponds, and a lake. Oak trees dot the landscape, their large branches floating over the gullies and hills of the valley.

Now, I will be displaying a few of my ideas on what we should have as flora and fauna in the upcoming section of land and its surrounding areas. Feel free to post your ideas and feedback, also.

Amberbee

The Amberbee, often called the Amber Stinger, is an insect which produces and collects an dark, golden brown substance called Amber Nectar, which is used for several purposes. The bees are often disliked for their stings, which leave behind great red welts on the afflicted skin. They do, however, decease once they have stung an animal or humanoid.

The bees act together in harvesting the pollen of roses, daises, bluebells, and many other flowering plants that dot the Halfling valley. Once the pollen is collected in their distinct and loud hives, it is set to ferment into the thick and sticky Amber Nectar.

The Nectar itself has many uses, such as an ointment to soothe burns, a sweetener to drinks and food, and even a natural form of glue (Note: the glue does not last long, and is a pain to get out of clothing). One of the Nectar's most common uses is that of forming hard candies, very sweet and pleasant to consume. If boiled in water, the Nectar also releases a wonderful aroma, often used to make homes smell nice.

The Amberbees appear unsettling to most eyes, as they have small mandibles (used for chewing food), great, fat bottoms (used to hold the nectar they collect), and milky, goggling eyes. The only thing that must worry those who interact with the insects is their stinger, which can puncture the skin and inflict pain on those who experience it. The Amberbee's bottom contains fuzzy auburn stripes, which are very soft and velvety. Altogether, each insect is about one inch long and half an inch wide.

Insect collectors will sometimes roam to collect these bugs that reside in the Halfling valley, as it is the region in which they are most common.

Note that they are usually contained in the crevices of trees, where they are most safe from intruding animals.

Orc Toad

---

---

The Orc Toad inhabits the rivers, ponds, and swamp lands of the Halfling Valley. Most known for its atrocious appearance and massive size, the amphibian is a feared creature. Some say that it was the offspring of an Orc and a Salamander, hence its name (and attitude).

The Toad itself is quite dangerous to Halflings, being awfully angry, vicious, and massive. Due to its size, about two feet long and three feet wide, the Orc Toad has the ability to consume creatures such as rabbits, squirrels, and fish. It can also inflict a nasty bite on those who come in close contact with it.

Two orb shaped glands rest on the side of the toad's head, which secrete a slimy form of poison. If the secretion makes contact with skin, it can leave rashes, but if it is consumed, death can occur. Some have harnessed the poison's power by placing it on the heads of darts and arrows. It could be used as a consumed poison, but assassins tend not to use it, as the scent is easily recognizable (it smells of urine).

Although frogs and toads tend to jump great distances, the Orc Toad is not a hopper. Its size and shape makes it difficult to move at great speeds.

Legend tells of a mother Orc Toad, which is of greater size and strength than the others, and a deadly foe. None, however, have seen the great beast.

Red-Furred Mouse

---

---

The Red-Furred Mouse is a fairly small rodent, with a reddish-chestnut shade of hair. It has massive hind legs, used to support its entire body, and small hands used to collect things such as seeds and tiny chestnuts. The creature's oddly shaped tail, much like a lion's, is used to keep balance for its highly disproportionate body.

Some say the animal is very cute, while others despise it for being pesky and often intrusive. The creatures are known to dig holes into burrows and steal seeds from crops. Other than that, it has highly fertile yet tiny fecal pellets.

The Red-Furred Mouse rarely summons up the courage to bite Halflings and other unwanted visitors, but if threatened it will not refrain from doing so. The bites are said to pack a punch, often leaving the inflicted area bleeding and sore, but the bite itself has never caused death. Only disease has been capable to do so, which can be common in the mice.

These animals are very fruitful, and can have many offspring in a short amount of time. They are considered pests and unwanted in most areas. On rare occasions, they can be kept as pets.

Like the Amber from The Shivering Isles DLC for Oblivion?

Sounds cool, but there would have to be about 10,000,000,000 bee's to get a sword of some armor out of it. Great idea though, I love it

Edit: I mean IF you could make armor out of it XD

Sorry about that coloring issue, if anyone saw it... It's fixed now.

Thanks, Alan! I had to redo it this morning, because when I drew it at first, the head was about the size of its whole body... Scary.

Uracow - I guess a master sculptor could form armour from Amber, but it would most likely just be for show and not wearing. If you did wear it, it would most likely break. ;)

I love it, Bili!

Edit: Ytf would you want armor made from bees?

TonyS - I guess some armour fanatic might want to make honey-armor. :D

Monkey - Thanks, man. xD

Luke - Yep, it's a cocoa-bean plant, I thought we should put a use to them! :)

ek_knight - Thanks, and don't forget there are more to come!

Randomness710 - Perfect, that's a great idea! :D The town Beekeeper would be an awesome job!

Cmack - Thanks man. :) I'll be working on creating more fun things like this, so be ready for more!

Jens - We'd love to have you!!! Our leaders have been more adept at creating events and such, and we've had a surge of active Halflings recently. :)
