The Defenders Of The North

The Defenders Of the North is the official Guard/Military organisation for Northal. In war time the Northern Defenders are considered a full Military faction. In peace time they are considered the official guard force for the Town of Northal.

Lore

In the times of Old, a great secret society of men existed in the North. They had no name, they just knew of their duty. Their duty was to protect the North and her peoples from harm and corruption in the name of the ruling family of the lands of Oren, even if they themselves did not know of the Order. Passed down from father to son for generations, it was a close knit group of bred fighters. They had many well-known exploits, forgotten in the land of Asulon, and more so in the new land of Elysium. One exploit which is semi-known to all was their input in the repelling of the horrible force in the North of Oren in the land of Aegis near it's end, and allowing the South to prepare to face the greatest enemy ever known to man, the Undead. Most died in these times, either from wounds sustained fighting the Undead or being hunted down by the Human minions of the latter. They were the faceless soldiers of the North, and to this day, tales are still told of their courage and skill in attacking that which could never be defeated. This Order of men is now gone, lost to the anuls of time. However, a new group of men stand this day to do as their ancestors once did, defend the people of the North and Oren's ruling family. Tales found in the Book of Winter, an hierloom of the Noble Oren Winter family, unearthed small snippets of information about the faceless Order of Northerners. Written in by all the Heads of House Winter, it contains information kept from the times of Aegis. In an account by Lord Edward Winter, he tells us of the men who none command yet all do, the men who take war onto their own shoulders and can change the tides of battle in one bellowing warcry. His son, Lord Harold Winter, now resides as Lord Prominent in the North in the name of Oren, and upon unearthing this entry, has vowed to create the Order of men his father kept in such high standing. Thus, the Defenders of the North were born. Based on old age values, the Order stands as a reminder of the greatness that was the Northern peoples.

Section I - Ranks/Members

Ranks and their information.

High Commander

Since the death of Lord Harold Winter, a new rank has been made in the place of Lord Commander. The High Commander is the overall leader of the Defenders of the North. The Commander is the direct heir to this rank. This rank will only be filled when the old High Commander either dies or steps down.

Commander

The Commander is the immediate second in command to the faction. You have to be an incredibly good soldier to become this rank. To become someone of this rank you must be chosen directly by the High Commander.

Captain

The Second in commands to the Commander. There is only two of these and they are specifically chosen by the commander them self. The Captains have the right to hire, fire and promote other Defenders, however, if they do one of those things without reasons the Commander can remove their action. One of them will usually take control when the Commander is absent. They are sometimes aloud to run training sessions.

Lieutenant

There is 3 of these. Lieutenants are chosen to lead small groups of troops. They fill in for Captains when they are absent. They are aloud to recruit members into the faction but do nothing more. They can sometimes be left to run training sessions although it is rare.

Sergeant

There can be up to ten of these at once. They are often given charge of minor training sessions due to their experience in the field. They are usually respected by their fellow soldiers although they have no rights to issue orders or recruit/demote/promote people unless told to do so by a Captain or above. They can take up to three new recruits as their trainees but this is optional.

Man At Arms

The advanced rank of faction. These soldiers are often respected among the other soldiers, however, they are not given much authority. They are usually assigned new recruits to teach and train in their own time. Men at Arms usually make up the front or center of battle lines.

Footmen

The Experienced rank of the defenders. If a Defender shows himself/herself to be useful in battle they will be promoted to this rank.

Ranker

The basic rank of the faction. This is the rank every soldier becomes once they finish their training.

Recruit

This is the rank the soldier will ALWAYS start as. The soldier is likely to only stay on this rank for 5-7 elven days while they are training. After that they are automatically promoted to Ranker.

Section IV - Training

Training sessions can be initiated by either the Commander or a Captain when there is going to be 3 or more other Defenders participating. There are a few different types of training sessions, all of which are listed below.

Sparring Practice - The defenders are taken out into a field or somewhere flat and will take part in hand to hand combat. Sometimes having mini tournaments out of it. This teaches the soldiers how to fight in war time and against large bands of criminals.

Sword/Axe/Bow practice - The defenders are taken to the 'sand pit' where they will test their attacks on wooden dummies, working on their accuracy and power.

Marching/Formation Practice - The Defenders will spend time learning how to do certain formations and how to march properly. We do this because it shows we are a well organised group of soldiers that are disciplined.

War Games - When there is 8 or more defenders participating a War Game will sometimes be held. War Games take part among the town. We do this to simulate what would happen if the town were to be raided. The guards usually take turns at being both defenders and attackers. The villagers are also welcome to participate.

Section V - Special Forces

Lord Commander's Bannermen

These soldiers act as an elite military force, they are chosen specifically by the Lord Commander themself. They are usually used as the Lord Commander's personal bodyguard.

Amelia notices the note on the wall of the Barracks. She takes a moment to look around for onlookers. After realizing there is no one else around she grabs the note and pulls it from the wall, tearing it to pieces.

"Ignorant prick" she says to herself as she stamps the shreds of paper into the mud.
