Ford 1996 Share Posted January 28, 2013 What's the rule on that? Some people have corrected other players' grammar with small Out-of-Character messages with the "*" by them, but what does the community think about that? Some view it as a way to help people, but some view it as flaming, bashing, etc. I think that if you simply place the incorrect word/sentence in an OOC message and correct it, you're not trying to be hurtful or anything, just helpful. I do it sometimes, but most people don't take offense and occasionally saying thanks. What do you all think?
Jon Evaglno 202 Share Posted January 28, 2013 ...Well, I'm a grammar nazi. When I see an error, before I even realize it, I have the correct version next to an asterisk in LOOC. Nobody seems to mind that much.
Danny 2232 Share Posted January 28, 2013 Quote from the forum rules: Do not post just to correct another players grammar/spelling. If you are posting out of a genuine kindness (say English is not their native language, and they say something that may be deemed overly confusing for other users, and you understand what they mean) and include other content in your post, then it may be considered acceptable - but there's really no need for you to correct someone else - if you've got a problem with someone's grammar or spelling, it's tough luck. EDIT: Just realised this was mainly about in-game - in-game I'd consider it unacceptable and downright rude.

Telanir 6975 Share Posted January 28, 2013 Danny has a good point. It would feel very disappointing to be immersed in your roleplay, only to have someone to suddenly interrupt the flow of roleplay with OOC, merely to correct your spelling. I refrain from doing that, and I suggest so does everyone. :
Evilbanana5757 154 Share Posted January 28, 2013 I'm fine if they correct their own grammar, but correcting someone elses in horribly impolite!
SkyyoBee 249 Share Posted January 28, 2013 I think it quite rude, when correcting someone they may feel you are 'mocking' them, and stating that your grammar is superior. On the other hand, they could take it as a kind gesture and be glad you corrected them before they say it again. I think it best not to correct people, as it is better safe than sorry~ If you really feel the need to correct someone, PM them to ask if they are ok with you correcting them every so often. Wretched 2075 Share Posted January 28, 2013 I correct my friend's grammar if we're in the OOC chat, but it's not out of rudeness, it's merely OOC banter and me keeping up my jokey reputation of being a bit of a grammar nazi... But I wouldn't go round correcting spelling in the middle of roleplay. It's not out of spite, and I've never seen any complaints bar sarcastic/jokey/playful responses in return. Not everything needs to be a rule.

I know I may sound like a jerk for saying this, but if someone's grammar and spelling is just--horrendous, then I think it'd be okay to just correct them on a little something, especially if they continue without correcting themselves.
Uboob ~Taron Geminine~ 14 Share Posted January 28, 2013 It depends on how the person you are correcting feels. In my opinion I see it as someone being helpful, yet it also annoys me that someone continues to correct you defo when they post LOOC just to correct you... Damn I hate OOC during RP.
