Sentinel Complaints, Questions, Suggestions, And Concerns

A small iron box is set down near the docks, a well traveled area in new malinor. The box is set between multiple stone slabs to keep it from being dragged off, though one might be able to chip away the slabs if they were really intent on stealing the iron box. The box has a lock on it, though it could probably be picked, if the lockpick was adept enough to do so. There is a small slot for parchment in the top of it, and a note above it reads,

"If you're a citizen of malinor with any complaints, questions, suggestions, comments, and/or concerns, put a note in here. If you sign your name I, High Commander Orym, will be able to get back to you. If you choose to remain anonymous, expect no response.

Some examples of these things would be:

Reporting misconduct of an initiate, suggestions on who to promote, suggestions on how things should be run, questions about ranks, how the sentinels work, or something of the like, complaints of something done by the sentinels, etc.

Thank you for your time and I hope that you can assist me in making the guards of this nation more efficient, skilled, and honed."

Signed,

High Commander Orym of the Malinorian Sentinels

(( I'm not very good at the roleplay on the forums so i'll ask the question like this. There is a gate at the Mali'aheral distri ct. I was wondering who is the sentinel. There are people outside the gates. And it seems like its me asking them the questions such as what is your name, profession and race. But later I found out it was too much responsibility to hold, I logged off. ))

(( Mali'aheral are -not-  a full part of malinor. They have their own style of doing things including their own forces. Their citizens know who to let in and who not to. Its just any person on the inside is in the loop of everything. If your on the outside your practically never let in unless on official business. ))

Halinahr smiles, he walks back to Fi'Haelun'or. A grin plastered on his face as he sits down and starts to write.

He emerges later that night and places the folded note in the box.

"

Greetings High Commander,

I am a citizen of Malinor, watching your barbaric soldiers work with no discipline at all. I have come to believe that you should reform them, train them better. My services are always welcome if you wish to meet me aswell, but onto the main topic. Two of your sentinels have been quite rowdy, I shall say that both of them should be punished accordingly

Artimec

Suspect of High Treason after letting a White Rose spy get away and did not apprehend him calmly, instead used brute force and was very barbaric. Horrible sight indeed. The spy's name is Ford I think, or so Artimec said his name was.

Accomplice of Artimec:

An elf with brown hair, initiate to your forces. He openly admits to being a traitor of the princedom by saying he would let valah raiders in through the boats. Maybe that is why valah have been coming to our lands so frequently

Please fix these issues so other mali can feel safe inside the Malinor borders

Kind Regards,

Halinhar Ill'yat "

It has come to my attention that no one in malinor appreciates us and that they believe they can do better. If they want to I suggest that we have a week of and invite the roses to come down here. Are citizens can defend themselves for a chance and maybe release a couple in the aheral district. And im commenting here because its a complaint box and i have complaints-Rarethorn

Orym reads the note. He frowns and then posts a small note above the box.

"These two will be dealt with, Halinhar."

Resia peers down at the note, her lips set in a grim line as she reads over the notice. Her ears twitch slightly as she contemplates the notice before turning away sharply to head towards her own home. An hour or so later, she returns to the metal box, clutched between her fingers is a clean piece of parchment, neatly folded to fit into the slot.

Greetings High Commander Orym,
As a recent, yet dedicated citizen to the Holy Princedom of Malinor, I  do my best to abide by all of the laws of the nation as delivered to us from the High Council. Over the last few elven days, I have witnessed horrid behaviors from not only some of the citizens, but from those who claim to be apart of your ranks as well

One sentinel in particular I had the ‘pleasure’ of meeting with personally. He goes by the name of Artimec. Not only rude towards myself and a dear friend of mine, he is beyond any doubt a violent being. I have personally witnessed him partaking in brute force when unlawfully arresting my aforementioned acquaintance. Upon notifying Khel of Artimec’s antics, I have learned that this is not the first time something like this has happened.

Within the same hour of witnessing Artimec’s behaviour, I came across another who seemed to know Artimec very well. I believe he is an initiate also. I do not know of his name, but I can describe his physical attributes of dark brown hair and blue eyes.  This so called initiate has shown the same outwardly rude and threatening behaviour as Artimec, and has even openly admitted to hunting members of the White Rose Order without consent of his authorities. This I believe is a direct violation of one of Malinor’s official laws and can very well lead to unnecessary violence between the corresponding nations. As I was removing myself from this person’s presence, I overheard him requesting company to light a fire on the docks of Malinor. I am sure you are aware this is an unwise decision seeing as the docks are made of wood.

I can honestly say, that I do not feel at all safe within the territory of Malinor, with people like this supposedly ‘protecting’ its citizens. I implore you High Commander, the Sentinels of Malinor is in dire need of reform. I would suggest a thorough background check as well as a trial period for any and all who wish to be initiated into your ranks. As for punishment towards the two mentioned in this letter, I believe you are a just and competent man and will leave the  decisions up to you and whomever you wish to consult. If you request my presence for any clarifications, I can be reached by bird.

Respectfully,
Resia Sae’lantae

After re-reading the letter over, she folds it quickly and slips it into the opening of the box, making sure that there is no way for anyone to retrieve it save for conventional means.

Orym frowns as he reads the note. He then figures that the note he posted before would settle this letter.

Orym walks by the box, checking for more reports. He frowns when he doesn't see any. He shrugs before moving on towards his home.

Azel silently approaches the box and looks down at it with a raised eyebrow. He looks down at his own parchment and rereads what he wrote the night before.

Orym, there are many within the Sentinel ranks that have done their job to the best of their ability and have done it right. As I look at many of the Sentinels, I cannot begin to explain the immense amount of pride I see in the faces of those who wish to serve Malinor in such a dangerous way. Many of them deserve much more than they already have... So, I'd like to voice my own opinion on who deserves a promotion and who does not.

Rhonir... Currently of the rank of Initiate but more than deserving of the rank of Gladewatcher. An able Elf with a strong sense of courage and justice. I for one, respect the Elf and wish to see him promoted.

Serva Rose, currently the rank of Sentinel, but more deserving of the role of Commander than the current one, Beren. Beren has been away for some time, so I am unaware to exactly what he is doing or the reasoning. But we must face the facts, Beren may be dead or captured and if we do not move on, awarding those who better deserve the role, then the Sentinels will not grow and strengthen.

Tathar, also currently an initiate. I feel he deserve the position of Gladewatcher for the same reasons as Rhonir.

Elerel, a strong and wise Elf for one so young. Deserving of Warden even though he seems inexperienced.

Now... sadly, there is one I feel does not deserve a promotion... And that is Lyweneth. She is skilled in her craft, but she has little to no control of her anger and I feel she would be a danger if given to much respect and power. Until able to get past said obstacle, she should remain as is.

There is one other I feel deserves a promotions, but the actions of this Elf says it all.

Azel slips the note into the box and walks off, heading to patrol as he whistles a happy tune.

A hooded elf pads up the the box with a prepared message written upon a neatly-folded piece of parchment.  It is sealed with an unmarked stamp, and is apparently addressed to the High Commander with the stipulation that no other eyes see it.  His eyes dart around from beneath the hood as he quietly puts the parchment up to the slot and lets the letter fall into the box.

High Commander Orym,

We have prepared a list of grievances against the Sentinel Lyweneth. Please only share this with others if absolutely necessary, as having it be common knowledge would only cause more trouble in an already agitated situation.

- Lyweneth has repeatedly used force to arrest a Mali on grounds that do not exist
- She has committed brutalities to Mali who did nothing to resist arrest
- She uses her position as a Sentinel to make herself an enforcer, arbiter, and executioner without consulting any superiors
- She has disobeyed direct orders from her superiors
- She has repeatedly shown a lack of control and restraint, allowing anger to overcome both orders and common sense
- Her disregard for orders and impulsive nature makes her unfit for command
- She has lied about occurrences in order to justify her violent actions to her superiors
- Her irrational anger and hot temper renders her unfit for the position of a Sentinel

We have gathered accounts that prove each of these grievances. For further detail upon any specific instances, contact the person involved.

First would be the account of Artimec Akkaris. He was recently ordered by Lyweneth to lower his bow, and he did not. There was no arrow nocked, the string was not drawn back, and no threatening actions were made. Artimec told Lyweneth, correctly, that there was no law against having a weapon in view. Lyweneth proceeded to assault him and beat him until his ribs were broken in multiple locations.  When he was immobilized, a group of Sentinels alternately pushed and dragged Artimec to the Sentinel jail.  He never made an attempt to resist.  When the Sentinels were discussing what to do with him, he asked about what he did wrong at that incident and was told, “We know the law better than you.”

This incident was completely unlawful, as at the time (and I believe currently) there was no rule against weapons being seen in public. This justifies the first grievance. Artimec had multiple ribs broken by the incident, which reflects the second grievance. He made no attempt to resist arrest, he just merely refused to compromise his rights. This caused Lyweneth to immediately allow anger and rage to overcome her, as a result of her impulsive nature. When she did so, the other Sentinels followed her lead. This is reflected in grievances five and six, respectively. Artimec was put into jail under Lyweneth's orders, without any valid cause or chance to dispute this. This justifies grievance three.

This incident is not the only example of such grievances - it is merely the most recent in memory. Multiple times has Lyweneth cited the non-existent edict disallowing held weapons as a reason to violently restrain an individual.

Another example of this was when Lyweneth attacked Vanir Laefien for having a drawn bow. An arrow was nocked, but this was a precaution as there were multiple dwarves about who seemed unruly and as if they would start fighting any moment. The string was not drawn back. Upon seeing Vanir perched in the tree, Lyweneth ordered him to come down. He complied immediately. Lyweneth then approached him and attempted to grab him by the neck, which Vanir quickly spun out of the way from. Vanir challenged her saying that such an action with a bow was no cause to do such. A crowd quickly formed, and an elf named Darkai leapt to Vanir's defense. Lyweneth quickly grew angry and was at the verge of attacking Darkai when Prince Khel approached and ordered her to stand down. She did not, and acted as if she had never heard him. No words could get through to her, so great was her irrational anger. When later questioned, Lyweneth said that she saw Vanir draw back the bowstring and aim it at Prince Khel - which never happened. His gaze was turned towards the rowdy dwarves some 10 meters down the docks, and he did not have the string drawn back. It is doubtful that one of her keen vision would make such a mistake, as she was close to him and it would be hard to imagine such a great change in angle and the drawing of a bowstring. This means that either her vision is greatly off or she lied in order to justify what was an unprovoked attack upon a compliant Mali.

This incident reiterates several of the grievances noted with the account of Artimec, and also provides a basis for others. Namely, the fact that she directly disobeyed an order from a Prince of Malinor by refusing to stand down - showing grievance four clearly. Grievance seven is displayed as well, as it is unlikely that Lyweneth mistook Vanir for having the bow aimed at Khel.

These large incidents and many other unsaid small occurrences show grievances five and eight, the only ones not specifically addressed, to be true.

These incidents and her pattern of behavior cause not only the Sentinels harm, but the Mali'ker as well. The Sentinels are seen by many as a disorganized force that "cannot see beyond the reach of their blade". Lyweneth's hulking stature and clear Mali'ker skin have led one Mali (who wished to remain anonymous when asked) to be under the false impression that most Mali'ker were impulsive and violent. Such a characterization is not something that one of the faces of the Sentinels should have. Lyweneth is one of the most seen Sentinels, as a result of her stature, regular patrols, and explosive outbursts.  The Sentinels are shamed by such behavior, and deserve a better image than the one she gives.

All things in mind, it seems to be more than prudent that Lyweneth is either stripped of her Gladewatcher rank and put on a long probation, removed entirely from the Sentinels, or even brought up on charges for her breakings of the laws of Malinor while she had her position. Non-action would reflect terribly upon the Sentinels, as it would seem that she is either in control of her superiors or that the Sentinels are not a peace-keeping force at all, and merely interested in their own power.

Sincerely,

One who Wishes for Better

Upon seeing that it is secure and safe within the strongbox, the elf silently melts into the forest with the skill of one who has lived in it most of his life.

Orym checks his iron box. When he sees two letters, he pull them out and walks to his home. Once there, he sits down and reads over them.
