Letter To Malin's People #1

Rhonir Draug looks the post on the wall, and nods. He scribbles another note.

Tahar,

You brought up a very good point, that is that we have been only looking at the bad. But your statement about Malins making our economy independent and stable does not ring true to me. First of all, you are right. We will become completely independent. But our independence is basically being cut off from the world. If there was a form of mint, it would mean something, but otherwise, economic independence would not bring good to us. Say we had a shortage of food, or wood? What would happen then? And about being stable, economic independence does not guarantee stability. Being cut off from the world does not guarantee stability. All it guarantees is that we would be separate. That wouldn't mean we wouldn't fluctuate. And to your other points of how if the economies of other nations fall, we would stay the same... We are cut off. We wouldn't be affected. That doesn't mean that we wouldn't change in anyway. Like I stated before, economic isolation does not guarantee stability. It just means that other nations wouldn't play a part in our fluctuating economy. And you also make a valid point: only Malinor workers get houses. But why should all Malinor citizens work for the government? You are basically reinforcing the vibe that we are all getting: This is to get us to work for the government. The private sector is basically destroyed now, as is any economic flow. Any economic flow is replaced with this: Government pays you, you pay government. And so on. If we are heading down that route, why even use a currency? Or is this a transitional phase for that system. And you say that most elves have no need to go to different nations, and that only merchants would have to. You also say that most of the population are simple workers. They are. But that is because they are practically forced to by the government. Free Enterprise is heavily discouraged, therefor it is practically nonexistent. And having a job in Malinor is different than working for Malinor. But unfortunately, that is the only option presented. If free enterprise was a viable option, there would probably be more mali participating in it.

In the end, Tahar, I do not wish to make you angry. I am simply giving my opinion, and my ideas towards the arguments you presented.

Rhonir Draug

Rhonir Draug pins the note to the board with a shard of bone from a

recent hunt. He walks away, happy knowing he got his point across.

*Vanir pads out of the shadowed area he was lurking and reads the latest note. Grinning, he copies it down word-for-word in his journal, as he did with the others.*

"With people this intelligent, it will not be long before those who oppress the people quake in fear."

*Vanir snaps shut his book and recedes, pondering whether to stay and listen to events or journey back to Baras Sul.*

Elorna looks over the cluster of papers with a frown. "Hmm."

Her frown deepens as she reads over the many notes. She takes a step back and taps her chin thoughtfully. "Hmm...."

After leaving for a time, Elorna returns with another note that she pins up with all the others.

"To the Mali of Malinor,

It is not the intention of the Malinor government to oppress or ignore its people.

The Council has been shown your many letters and I assure you, none have been removed by any councilors. I can't actually ensure that your suggestions will be implemented, but I can promise to make your concerns heard. A public debate is being planned for the near future, where all Mali will be able to come and make their opinions known. I also encourage all citizens to continue voicing themselves as they have here. So many diverse ideas coming together will only benefit Malinor.

My own opinions on these economic matters remain unformed, but if there is anything that any citizen may need, I ask that they please feel free to approach me. I will do my best to help with your situation and respond to your concerns, or get you into contact with the appropriate councilor.

ame lye evareh

Elorna Avern, Mali'ame Steward."

Chirr'ceru returns to the postings once more, reading the additions. He takes note of the names of each individual, surprised when he notices Elorna's letter. She reads it carefully, a small smile appearing on his lips. He pulls another sheet from his pack, writing another letter and posting it beside Elorna's.

Thank you, Elorna, for being the only Councilor to actually respond to the desires of the people. You are the only Councilor I have known to actually encourage the citizens of Malinor to voice their opinions. As far as I can tell, you are the only member of the Council who truly cares about the well-being of the citizenry.

And for the rest of those who post here, if you wish to contact me, so we might organize a group of like-minded individuals, please feel free to send me a bird. Send it to the tavern outside of the wilds, as I will most likely be waiting there for the time being, and have something red visible on the outside of the letter so I know it's for me ((Just PM me if you want to contact me this way)). Thank you to all who have opposed this foolish new system. Hopefully with organization, we can return Malinor to the great Princedom it once was.

Artimec pins up his own opinion to the ever growing board.

"They cannot seriously expect us to isolate our economy like this. Other lands sell things malinor does not. Things we need. Paying us in a currency restricted to our lands completely contradicts the open foreign relation policy the high council has drilled in."

Artimec leaves his note unsigned, instead writing:

A toiler of the work force.
