Letter To Malin's People #2

*Copies of another letter is nailed up around the city.  This time, no one sees who put them up*
[[Meaning no metaing it was me, ok?]]

To whom it may concern-

Some time ago I had the most singular experience of watching a number of Sentinels training.  While their weapon skill was by-and-large very good, I was disappointed by their drill.  Drill being, of course, their ability to move cohesively and as a whole, and their ability of execute certain practiced maneuvers.

There was no evidence of practiced maneuvers on that field, and a noticeable absence of order and Common Sense.  At one point the order was given to line up at a post.  Perhaps three of the soldiers obeyed, while the other four or so continued conversations with nonmilitary mentors, wandered about, and in the case of one silly youngster, screamed "who will train me?" in a voice I am sure could be heard from Town Square.  Of those who did line up, the drill was done sloppily and slowly, not with the military precision and crispness one would expect or want.  In essence, drill, obedience, and coordination were by-and-large absent from that training field.

Some days prior to the rather lackluster training session, I had excuse to watch a number of the White Rose execute a similar drill.  While I disagree with them on the great majority of their principles and practices, (consisting of brutality, barbarianism, and uncouth violence) I could not agree with their drill more.  As a counterpoint to the slow, sloppy Sentinels, the Roses formed a crisp and orderly line within seconds, saluted, and were ready to march near-instantly.

If the session I observed was a good example of the state of the Sentinels, I am exceedingly worried about the safety of the Princedom, especially if our opponents on the battlefield are as well-drilled and organized as the Roses.
I shudder to think of our soldiers attempting to hold a field defensive line.  I now ask you, who would you want protecting you and your nation: sloppy and insolent troops as the Sentinels, or disciplined, trained, and crisp soldiers?  It is clear that there must be a major revamping of Sentinel proceeding quite soon.

Yours Truly,

O. Sylvanus Treemail~

*Xanthur walks by seeing the letter and leaves a small note*

"I must say I do agree.. The Sentinels have come to a time of reform, though as the guards that they stand as now they do their job well.. In some ways.. Most of them are able to make good arrests and bring criminals in, give or take a few odds.. Do not lose all confidence in the Sentinels.. Though your point is right.."

Orym rips off one of the letters, and puts a note in its place.

Dear O. Sylvanus Treemail,

If you have such claims and concerns, making a public letter is not the answer. Your voice can be heard still if you send a letter to an official. What you should of done was bring this up to me directly instead of doing something such as this, as these notices only cause chaos, disarray, and the like. While some of your suggestions may be relevant and logical, and you also might have some ideas, you should come to myself before something such as this.

I hope to hear from you directly in the future, Van'ayla,

High Commander Orym

Orym then puts these notes up on any other letters he sees. He then goes back to his office with one of the letters and reads it over again, sighing.

Foreman Lithimis walks up to the board and reads the letter that is pinned. He studies the words for a moment and then steps back.

"Clear concise criticism, I can respect that. Obviously I am not sure if this one display would represent the Sentinels as a whole, or it may be a correct evaluation. It could have just been a fresh group of brand new recruits, which would be the reason for the poor demonstration. I could not agree more with this "Treemail" fellow that the Sentinels are in need of reform. I do know they are currently undergoing a major change. It will take time, but I hope not too long though. This fellow seems to have a good understanding of what good tactics should look like, I would hope that he has the courage to step forward and try and enact change and help from within and not just continue to observe from the outside, but none the less, I hope the Sentinels take this as good constructive feedback and not just rip it down to discard it but rather take it for an idea of how to better themselves. I do know someone that knows this "Treemail" fellow, perhaps a meeting can be arranged."

*Isirack bites his bottom lip reading the newly posted letter. He then begins to think back to when he was a sentinel, and can't help but to agree with the letter.*

"This Treemail fellow has a verry acurate assesment of the current condition of the sentinels, something needs to be done, hopefuly Oceas' reform will spawn some results."

On one of his now-infrequent passes through Malinor, Bircalin takes mind of the note, caring to deliver his own response.

"When the Noladrim formed, they made it no small secret that they were more than capable of exceeding the Sentinel's standard of operation. Though the Noladrim were promised attention from the High Council, no such thing came and possibly Malinor's best chance at an effective force was driven from the people for reasons still yet unknown."

*a new letter has replaced the one Orym took, this one with a postscript from Mr. Treemail*

Commander Orym-

I would have gone to you directly, yet I feel that had I, you or your associates would have simply stonewalled my requests and queries (or gave a pointless boilerplate answer,) and I could have found myself in a good deal of trouble had I persisted.  However, you cannot ignore a city full of people who disagree with what you're doing.  I am not inflaming the people against you purposefully, what they care to do with my discourse and opinions is their choice.  I noticed, however, that for all your discounting of my methods, you only mentioned once that I may be correct and not once did you mention that you would do anything about it.  Perhaps more effort should be spent examining what I have outlined, not simply discrediting those whose beliefs do not align precisly with yours.  I mean no disrespect.

Best regards,

O. Sylvanus Treemail~

Varstivus walks through Malinor, pausing at one of the notes. He grins, takes out a quill, and sketches out a symbol next to Treemali's pseudonym.

He also posts a small note.

"To be anonymous is an incredible gift. May Uarch protect you in all secrecy."

Art scribbles up a quick note.

The roses are advancing. They block off all our roads. Get your shite together or disband and let the competent mali take over. Other than that, I refer you to Mr. Treemail's words.

*pins a note,

Prince Oceas is working on reform and we have hired new guards and advisor myself being one. What you do not understand is that the sentinels due to treaty we are unable to touch the white rose. Aswell due to treaty sentinels are not a military we are a guard force.

The sentinels are a force to deal with the common bandit and theif. Not fight full scale wars unaided. The sentinels are trained to deal with issues in a attempt to keep the person under question alive.

Whoever you are sir are clearly misinformed on the duties of the sentinels, I am willing to guess you are an ex sentinel. I have not been around long but I'm willing to wager that you were dismissed from the sentinels. Learn the duties

Of the sentinels before you begin to post propaganda (without a VA I might add)

UNABLE TO TOUCH THE WHITE ROSE.

Valah commit outright genocide, block us from our homelands and the high council still lives in the delusion that there is still some semblance of a treaty.

Yet another reason kolyat must go.

Artimec angrily pins up his note.

*wonders why the note was pinned when he is standing right there reading the note anyways.

*will oblige the man by writing a new note

The treaty still stands, Godfrey has made a

Statement on the white rose and they ignore his order due to his sickness, when he returns and sees the wall has grown I do not think we will be pleased.
