The Daughters And Sons Of Malinor

A note is nailed to the message boards around Malinor, as well as the entrance to the Council Chambers. In elegant gray script, it contains the following message:

"It has come to my attention that one thing is painfully obvious in the lands of Malinor these days. Dissatisfaction seeps through many elves, and our anger at the current ruling body of Malinor, the High Council, grows deeper each passing sun. They appear too busy trying to squash internal dissent to truly confront the problems they have created through their terrible choices and the wrong decisions they have made at almost every turn. In fact, these Princes and the High Prince cannot be held accountable, in any form, to the people of Malinor, whom they claim to serve. I believe that the current High Council must be held accountable for its grave mistakes on both the foreign and domestic front, for they have almost driven Malinor to a state of war with the Dwarves of Urguan for the third time in the last decade, and with Oren twice in the same. The White Roses block the roads in and out of Malinor, and what has the Council done? Infuriate them further. They claim to have no use for minas, yet why do they not use them to pay the tolls of all their perfectly content citizens so that we may not be harassed coming and going from Salvus. The Sentinels routinely tear down the letters of those who represent the opposition, and it is either by the orders of the High Council, or just as troubling, by the fact that the High Council  no longer has any control over the Sentinels and that they are free to act as they see fit. Reform has not come, and it never will, unless we, the true daughters and sons of Malin, pressure them into it. Both the people in charge and the system are broken, and a new, democratic one, with checks and balances so that no Mali can take advantage of the rest, must be implemented. Some on the High Council, High Prince Kolyat in particular, say that we cannot be trusted to elect our own leaders, but if they were truly doing a good job and were competent, they would have no problem being elected. The High Council of Malinor, under the feckless High Prince Kolyat, wishes that you not have a voice, a voice that is your right as Mali to be heard, and that you must accept the current state of affairs simply because they, the High Council of Malinor, are powerless to change anything. Unfortunately for them, many see that they are so crippled by their incompetence that they govern Malinor as they would play a game where the lowest score wins. With the departure of many of our Mali’ker cousins, and the increasing distance Haelun’or is putting between Malinor and itself, this council no longer represents a unified Malinor, but a broken, crippled one. The Mali’Aheral are electing their own leader, and I say, we should follow suit elect our own leaders as well. The time has come for the voice of the oppressed to be heard, for if we wait much longer, there may be no one left in Malinor to hear it.

Signed this day,

~Ebs Telrunya, Former Fourth Prince of Malinor"

*Nienna reads the note, and sighs.*

"Oh ebs, you Ma'ikru."

*crunches up the paper*

"Like a child who cannot have his binky, someone needs a spanking."

The tense skin at the edges of Bircalin's lips tightens further as he stretches his mouth and massages his jaw with a swoop of his hand. Word had spread to Lenfarthing of the Elves' growing tensions. The departure of the Mali'ker had left it almost blindingly obvious that there was a much more eventful scene yet to unfold.

The Halfling beside him, hired to bring him news from the goings-on around Malinor had gifted him with what she had remembered the note saying. As the small, plump woman recounted the contents of the letter, Bircalin's mind begins to stray, recalling the rebellion against Indelwehn in Aegis and how he had become a target.

His calm, warm voice catches itself in the deep red glow of the nearby fireplace in his underhill. "Too much, does the common Elf find distaste in their surroundings... Too hot, too cold. Too gentle, too abbrasive... Perhaps it is time I spoke with my wisest friend once again? Perhaps..."

Retrieving his attention from the flickering embers coating the fresh firewood, Bircalin notes the surprisingly agile Halfling's empty seat and spotless plate.

"Such a peaceful people, yet they try so little to be such. A lesson to be learned from the simplest of folk."

"Though I may be a child, so are we all, for the blind trust we put in the incompetent hands of Kolyat. You no longer posess the blessing of Malin, for surely he would not approve of the destruction of the written word, which we claim as a heritage from him. Things have been set in motion, larger than the High Council, and you are powerless to stop them. If you could, that at least would proove you are competent enough to govern Maljnor, but the High Council has run out of last chances."

Azel Bloodseeker steps up beside Ebs, nodding to any and all Elves around them.

"Greetings friends~"
