Ever 2648 Share Posted April 24, 2013 This post is to just clarify some things about the Wandering Soul chat channel. For those who don't know, we have a channel specifically designed around the Wandering Souls, players who are not whitelisted on the server. Souls cannot talk in any other channel besides /ws. Just like our other chat channels, players may enter and leave /ws at any time. While anyone may enter the channel and talk, there are a few "rules" that need to be covered: Do NOT: Troll or lie to any Wandering Soul or potential applicant.* Harass or bully any Wandering Soul or potential applicant. Do not idly chat with your friends in this channel; do that in /ooc or through PMs.** * Clarification: Do not tell them things like... "oh, yeah, you can't play an elf unless you've been on the server for 6 months! play a dwarf/human/etc!" If they ask a question regarding lore/server mechanics, give them a truthful answer. You can be silly and have fun with the applicants of course, just try not to put them off. ** Of course, if you guys are explaining something to a newbie, that's obviously allowed. Just no "hey bob, what are you doing? hey did you get my taxes?" etc. Do: Explain the basics of the server if they do not know Answer the applicant's questions Small talk with them If a staff members asks you to leave the channel, please listen. If a Wandering Soul is spamming/flaming/being overly aggressive, message a Guide or a GM. They can temporarily ban/kick souls. Overall, just have fun with the newbies. Many of them are excited about applying (and hopefully getting in). My personal suggestions: Do not tell the applicant too much; we don't want to spoonfeed them or overload them with information. If an applicant asks "why do Orcs talk funny?", tell them it's due to their tusks and that they speak "the Blah". They don't need to know that the Dwarves and Elves have their own languages named "blahblahblahblah". Leave that for when/if they ask. Talk with them, ask them what race they want to play, if they like the builds, etc. Be friendly to your future server mates :P

Shadeleaf 1022 Share Posted April 24, 2013 I... thought we couldn't get in o.o
Ever 2648 Author Share Posted April 24, 2013 I... thought we couldn't get in o.o Some can, some can't. I'm not really sure why. Honestly, I'm open to letting any and all members of the server into the channel as long as they remain civil. Of course, that's not really up to me :P
SparehoeCakes 547 Share Posted April 24, 2013 BUT WHAT IF BOB DIDN'T GET MY TAXES EVER, WHAT THEN!?!?!?! Jk, I like to help the souls, and am always in the chat. Thank you for the post though, clarification posts are always useful.
Silevon 497 Share Posted April 24, 2013 So I'm allowed to talk with them? Why was I kicked earlier for doing so?
meg 1994 Share Posted April 24, 2013 It displeases me to hear that people would actually do what you said in the "Do Not." Sad this is needed, but great job either way Ever.~
Ever 2648 Author Share Posted April 24, 2013 So I'm allowed to talk with them? Why was I kicked earlier for doing so? You were asked to leave the channel many times/to stop "trolling". I personally did not have a problem with you interacting with the Souls, but when a staff member asks you to do something, it's best to listen. Do note that this post is for the entire playerbase, it's not directly related to you. I wanted to clarify a few things. It displeases me to hear that people would actually do what you said in the "Do Not." Sad this is needed, but great job either way Ever.~ Well, people /might/ do that. I haven't seen it happen, but I just wanted people to know that it's obviously not allowed :P
Nug 2011 Share Posted April 24, 2013 I believe this post was needed, thanks Ever. :

Krogulec 0 Share Posted April 26, 2013 Hehe... reminds me of that time when I first came in to work with Special Needs children :D not in-game of course, like for real, they were telling me pretty much the same things what to do and not to do... of course they never said I could (...) just have fun with the newbies. Many of them are excited about applying (and hopefully getting in).
Wobbajack 119 Share Posted April 27, 2013 Thanks for the reminder. Even though I try to do all of these things anyways. Haha.
John (Zevandir) 80 Share Posted April 28, 2013 Guys, why the sad at the need for this post? Prevention is better than cure, and in all honesty, obviously there are people out there, who do that stuff for fun or otherwise, and a brief but highly informative and helpful post to point the player base in the right direction is, in my opinion, 100% legitly a good thing, str8 up gr10. Cheers Ever
