Of Birds And Slaves

The clan Braduk arrived back at their clan fort, hungry and weary from their latest hunt in the Orcish jungle. It went well, and they came bearing packs full of animal hides ready for their cook to prepare.

Dropping the hides in front of the fire, Durakai went to rouse their current slave, a human woman, with brown hair and a large, crudly drawn 'B' scar on her forehead, showing that she is property of the Braduk clan.
But when lifting the latch on the small pit they had dug, they found no slave. She had escaped.

Durakai quickly ran ot the others, informing the clan of the loss of property.
"Ged da burdz" growled Ghazkull

The hunt was on.

((This thread was intended to pose a question that occurred to me from a roleplay experience; can messanger birds track escaped slaves? This question not only involve the possibility of a bird being able to single out an escaped slave, but also about how messenger birds track their targets. I find the current lore on messanger birds, well.. Hard to find. Apart from Hex37's lore on his seafaring messenger birds, which would be completely useless in the harsh Orcish deserts, I haven't encountered any in depth messenger birds, let alone any that could track a slave. The slaves would be easy enough to find, of course, due to the branding, and I think it would be a fun roleplay experience, if one moment you were walking down a main road, and then overhead you saw a slave-finder bird searching for you, and the escaped man or woman would have to dive under nearby cover, or seek shelter elsewhere. If there isn't any lore, I'll gladly write some, with the soul purpose of tracking their targets down. I will gladly accept any ideas, or helpful criticisms on this topic to be posted as a reply to this thread.

Elorna sits in the branches of an unusually tall birch tree, cradling her dove, Lenti, and stroking its ead as it makes soft cooing sounds. They are both blissfully unaware of the goings-on of orcs and slaves alike.

((Probably not. The way messenger birds work in real life, is they know and can find their way back to certain locations. So if you take it on a journey, you can use it to send messages back home, but not really anywhere else. Not that birds are used realistically in RP anyway. :I Even with a predatory bird, I don't see how they could find a specific person from the air. Maybe... but I doubt it. There's a reason we use dogs in real life.

But, you never know, with good lore it might work. It'd be a little far-fetched though, and I think a pack of dogs or wolves would make more sense.))

*Gor growls, kicking the sand near the hole throwing the snapped chains aside "Zhi nub kould uv gun far.. Wi trak her duwn, dah trakz zhuld ztill be dere"

((Eh, any other race wouldn't survive long after escaping our fort is in one of the furthest reaches of the desert, making it out alive would be near impossible.))

((I am a man. Also, using tracker birds is a horrible Metagaming mechanic that, quite frankly, will never, ever, pardon the pun, "Fly."))

Sorry Hex, corrected. And you are right, as usual. Thank you all for your opinions, and I wont be writing any lore on tacker birds now or in the future. Thank you all for your input, this thread may be removed if it is the wish of the site moderators.
