Hadrien de Sarkozy scowled as he so commonly did. The routine chore of counting his coins like the old miser he was needed to be undertaken yet again this week. His eye twitched - he had never been good at managing money, but he liked to present a facade to the people and high nobility that he was an ideal treasurer. In truth, Goldman had done all of that work for him. Descending down the short, stone steps into the Great Treasury of Aldersberg, he sighed. Every step he took sent a jolt through his bones - one thing was certain. Lord de Sarkozy was not as athletic or as benevolent as he used to be.

Swiftly entering the combination to the redstone mechanism, looking over his shoulder all the while, Hadrien unlocked the immense iron door to the vault. Taking the embossed handle quickly, he gave a light tug and the opulent vault door swung open.

He saw it first. It was too large to miss, and knew it was dead.

Sarkozy looked down in confusion, muttering something inane under his breath.

"Saint Daniel...I...they've...they've killed him!"

After pausing for a moment his began to yell, his voice resonating out of the chamber and throughout the main square of Aldersberg.

"Guards! Guards!"

Hadrien fell to his knees, his face in his hands. It was all falling apart. The Creator was punishing him for his sins. Gisela was gone, Thomas had abandoned him and now his sole remaining friend and ally was gone too.

A rabble assembly of nobles and peasants alike had gathered at the plaza in Abresi. They were eager to hear the news, and Hadrien was to deliver it to them. Standing on the pedestal, his nephew Arjen to his left, he placed his arms by his side and began to speak in a somber tone.

"I regret to inform the commons that Toveah Goldman, the King of All Merchants, has passed from this realm. He was found dead this morning, and such a cause of death has not yet been ascertained."

Hadrien reaches to the pockets of his breeches, removing a thin leaflet of parchment. He brandishes it around wildly as if it is some kind of integral work of art.

"I, Hadrien Francis de Sarkozy, Count of Norfolk, have been declared executor of Goldman's will, and accordingly I shall ensure that the properties and funds are distributed as it is written."

The nobility present at the rhetoric give a sigh of disapproval, but Sarkozy ignores them brazenly, continuing. As the speech progresses, he begins to gesticulate fervently, his discourse irate.

"Furthermore, it is my intention to have constructed a great mausoleum to house his body, along with a magnificent monument to the glory that was Goldman. I shall commission a grand statue befitting of Goldman's grandeur. In addition, to honour him I shall be changing my legal name to Hadrien Goldman de Sarkozy, in memory of the great service that this great man has done to me and my family. For a great man indeed has perished this day, and we should take the utmost care in preserving his memory!"

((RIP, Toveah. You were easily in my top ten favorite characters on LOTC. Good night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.))

Silus hears the news from a courier boy who has disturbed him during sorting the archives of the treasury.

"Goldman goes and nobody comes. At least he left us some Gold, but yes... we have to see what can be done now. Oren needs its treasurer as it seems... time to prove my worth, I'd say. Horen shall see."

((Just so you know, Hadrien hasn't really announced the will to anyone yet. So I don't believe you'd have any knowledge about the gold, lest he's told me incorrect information))

((Nobody should know of the details of the will IC except Elhadron Mayliff and Hadrien.))
