A Dedicant Lost. A Ruin Found.

"Okay... I admit it... I'm lost." Dedicant Muse uttered to himself as he peered around. Trees, everywhere, all the exact same as the last. "How does a Druid Dedicant get lost in nature..."

This was the second time in one week that his curiosity had gotten the better of him, and gotten him in a dire situation, and he was beginning to understand that ancient proverb. "Curiosity killed the Dedicant..." That's what it was... wasn't it? He was running low on supplies, he only had a few loaves of bread and some herbs in his pack, to make matters worse he could swear a spider and a skeleton, perhaps a skeleton riding a spider, had been following him. And night was coming. It was coming fast. "You're fine, Muse. You just wandered off the path." He let out a gentle yawn. In all truths, he wasn't that worried. If he died out here, then that was that. Nothing he could do to stop it. That didn't make him want to get home any slower, though. He decided on a simple first goal, climb the nearby hills and get a view of the surrounding area. Genius!

Trees... Damn... Trees.. Everywhere! Sure, he was on the path to Leumalin, but still! He sighed lightly, but something teased his eyes to the right. Spinning swiftly and readying his fists, as if he could protect himself regardless, he chuckled lightly. Not an enemy, just a glimpse at... er... something. What was it, though, and why was it hidden in the mountains. Ancient ruins? Muse had a knack for finding oddities at the worst time. So much for getting home, it was his duty to see what this was now...

He shuffled through the grass, his trusty Geta keeping his feet protected from the mud. His eyes lit up with glee as he saw what he was approaching.

"I am so glad... I got lost..." He uttered to himself. In recent times it seemed the odd boy known as Muse seemed to talk to himself more than others. He himself noted this, and realized he would have to fix it... after he explored this place, and hopefully made it back alive. This structure was beautiful. It was master crafted, but nature has a way with words and seemed to seduce the structure back into her ever lasting hold.

He swiveled to his left, his gaze locking onto another structure. "My... What..." was all he let out as he saw its beauty.

Immediately he ran, or rather briskly walked in his Geta (Sandals). He had to get a better view. As he shuffled into a clearing, he got exactly the view he was looking for. What it was, he had not a clue, though under the dim, eerie moon light glow, it appeared to be a... tree... a man made tree of the whitest colors. Man made was his first guess but... mother nature tended to be wildly unpredictable, and this could be one of those cases.

And suddenly... he was incredibly weary. Not just mentally, worrying of the origins of this "tree", but also physically. It was if the night air had just hit him. He shuffled pack and turned around, feeling an odd heat on his back. What is this...

It was almost hidden. Behind a wall of over growth, vines and bushery, he could see it. A dim light. A lit fire. Who would light a fire all the way up in these mountains, and why was it hidden in this cave? He could barely thought. He was tired beyond belief, and gently strode inside.

2013-06-06_152428_zps8ae9ef6d.png

It was as if he just went from a tundra, to a cozy house. The outside was chilly, and he could hear a breeze whispering just outside of the cave, the over growth protecting him, and the fire heating the room. It was incredibly comfortable, more comfortable than the nobles manor he had once been in in Salvus, yet it was entirely bare. He surmised that he could live the rest of his days in this little cave, all it needed was a...

He turned, and as if on que, there was a bed. "Marvelous..." he uttered, and then fell into a deep sleep. He decided that when he awoke, if he awoke, he would explore the rest of the area.

((did you just find Bircalin's house?))

((No clue. That was just the prelude. The real adventure is the ruins nearby filled with traps and dead ends. I have absolutely no idea what it is, I am just making rp for myself.))

((did you just find Bircalin's house?))

((If it is Bircalin's house, he's gonna be pretty angry coming home to find a stranger sleeping in his bed, and having eaten, what I assume would be, his fish porridge.))

He awoke with a start, a cold sweat running down his body. Had he succumbed to a fever the other day, if so how could it have run its course so fast? He groaned, his entire body ached in pain and as he lifted his head and looked outside, his eyes widened in surprise.

2013-06-06_164307_zpsae6517f1.png

It was turning night already. He had slept for a good 24 hours or so... Everything surrounding this area was filled with mystery, but he was not one to give up so easy. Sliding his bare feet into his Geta, he shuffled outside. A cool breeze met his pale skin, the dying glow of the sun embraced him, he felt better than he ever had. And... what was that in the distance?

2013-06-06_164314_zps93ff8db7.png

Beneath the "Tree" an opening seemed to be. Hidden too behind a wall of overgrowth, yet behind the over growth he could just make out stone. Bricks. Man made, not nature. He let out a gentle sigh and strode forth, stepping across the meager pond beneath him. He was surprisingly agile, and now that he was met with fresh energy he felt that traversing these ancient ruins would be beyond easy. Fate had another plan for him.

An arrow whizzed past his head, swiveling back for no more than a second he caught the skeleton archer. He was followed! Quickly and clumsily, he ducked into the ruins. Whatever it held couldn't be worse than being skewered with arrows.

2013-06-06_164711_zpsfe9ecf01.png

He hardly caught a glimpse at what he was stepping into. His Geta snagged on a loose rock, and he plummeted into darkness, surely into death.

2013-06-06_164717_zps264255d3.png

He was unaware of what happened. He awoke, and remained utterly still. He had no clue how long he had been unconscious, seconds, minutes, or hours. Scuttling all around him, the pitter patter of foot prints. The original guardian of these ruins? Perhaps. Mindless skeletons? Likely. He lowered his breath, and continued down the spiraling path of ruins. He was surely insane to delve further into this hell hole, but he was anyways. There was blood beneath him. Was it his? He was unsure.

2013-06-06_164741_zpscca0c81b.png

It was all the same... one long dark spiral leading to, surely, the nether itself. "Why me" Muse uttered sarcastically. The truth of the matter was quite opposite. His heart was pounding in his chest, he felt... well... alive. That was something no one could give Muse, something he had to earn. If it meant risking his life in this place, he would do it. He felt like he could take on the world. His robes were a bit torn, many of his tattoos being revealed, though not a soul to document it. He looked up and though "Finally"

2013-06-06_164753_zps5e8adeab.png

A difference in the dungeon. That was all he wanted, not more of the same. At least now he knew he truly was alive, and not in a night mare, or some massive illusion. A lever concealed behind the column. He didn't dare touch it. "The next one..." he uttered to himself, promising to mess with the next lever he came across. A promise he would soon regret.

He continued down the desolate ruins, coming across a sight for sore eyes. Light...

2013-06-06_164819_zps3aa21f0e.png

And of course, blood. Just his luck, of course someone had to go and die down here. Things just got much more complicated. He stepped carefully down the stairwell, making sure to watch where he was walking, lest he fall again. He soon came across a rather gruesome sight.

2013-06-06_164952_zps805d02ef.png

A skull. Muse had just recently come across a clearing filled with 10 brutally murdered, half eaten corpses, some on pikes, most beheaded. This skull was not enough to deter him, but it most certainly set him on edge. It was displayed like a trophy... And... was that a... God damn, he thought to himself. A lever, hidden behind the skull and overgrowth. Well, he though, here goes nothing.

He reached over the skull and through the overgrowth, pulling the lever. SWOOSH

2013-06-06_165007_zps1cf54d1e.png

He nearly fell, and if he had there would be no way out. His luck was outstanding, and he couldn't help but let a pearly smile cross his lips. He had to rest. He had to meditate, and think if this was really worth it all. Ruins are ruins, but this ruin was filled with death and traps.

((More coming soon.))

((Rather anti climatic, but still infinitely beautiful. Just did not get the results I had been hoping for xD.))

2013-06-06_171840_zps114baee4.png

He opened his eyes, and before him lay the path he had chosen to take. He would delve further into this ruin, even if it caused him death. He had meditated for some time, an hour or more, and realized that if he backed out now, he would not be whom he set out to be, and his curiosity would fade. It was an obligation now, a promise to himself, to complete this puzzle.

As he continued on, he came across yet another glimpse at interesting architecture, and of course, a lever. Surely another trap, and he would surely pull it again.

2013-06-06_171913_zpsfc2196e0.png

He closed in on the lever and pulled it down. SWOOSH

2013-06-06_171922_zpsdcfc239e.png

Another head and untold amounts of blood. That makes the second dead man consumed by the cavern, he thought, sighing out loud. He recklessly stepped ahead, entirely unaware of what was before him. Just as he was about to put his foot forward, a rock bounced down the cave, echoing around and distracting him. As he looked up, he could not thank Nature more.

2013-06-06_171930_zps00627e9b.png

He would have been impaled with a barrage of arrows if he stepped on the pressure plate. "Thank you Rock... you... er... rock." He clumsily utters to himself as he carries on with the adventure. It was not long before he came across another site to behold.

2013-06-06_172128_zps9e874554.png

Trip wire. Whoever set up this ruin was a master with traps, he swore under his breath. He slid off his Geta in order to maneuver more carefully, holding them in his hand. Every move he made, the two wood sandals slapped against each other. CLACK. CLACK. CLACK. The sound echoed through the ruins mercilessly. He continued on and while it had not yet occurred to him, it was odd. He was no longer moving down... rather, he was moving up.

2013-06-06_172307_zps0d695561.png

He slid his Geta onto his feet as he traversed upwards now. He let out a bit of a groan as he saw the one thing he didn't want to see. Sunlight. A ray of it, and then a wave of it.

2013-06-06_172321_zpsfa8d1c83.png

He had gone... in a circle. A dangerous, trap riddled, mystery filled, circle. He was alive, sure, but his heart was broken. No secret tunnels filled with loot. No ancient artifacts. No mysterious ghosts... Just him.. and a circle. He sighed out loud. "My luck... is non existent."

He was not entirely sold. He was sure that somewhere in there, there was some kind of artifact or secret, safely hidden behind one of the many levers. He would find it some day, but not today. He wanted to see his druid friends for now. And so he left the ruins, left the great white tree, and traveled home. Still blatantly lost.

((Here's a parting gift guys. A beautiful picture of the tree.))
