The First Riot Against Martial Law.

As nighttime fell in Salvus, the soldiers patrolled the streets, calling out the order.

“Anyone found outside will be beaten!”

Arthal was patrolling the streets, and moved down the alleyway to the side of Dawn’s Bakery. He waggled his baton at a few who were still outdoors, and they begrudgedly moved inside. He reached over into the bakery, flicking the switch to close the gates.

Hushed whispers and hurried words reached Arthal’s ears from the bakery, but he thought nothing of it. He continued onward, before being stopped by Balian Volsung-Valois. He spoke quietly, “Arthal, there’s a man in the bakery, readying to fight! He’s asking people for blades.”

Arthal nods, “Get Rick and Dion. Notify Arjen.” The boy hurried off in search of the three other Roses, as Arthal made his way to the Square.

Dion, Rick, and Arthal stood together, preparing their weapons, when suddenly, Hanrahan Brae burst through the doors, pushing out into the street, with his group of rioteers.

Arthal panics as he raises his longsword, ready to fend off the Adunian foe. The Adunian swings his large claymore sword, trying to slice across Rick and Arthal’s chests. Arthal was unable to see if Rick was hit or not, as he raised his own sword to save himself, getting thrown backwards by the strong hit. Arthal stayed back as Hanrahan swung around once more, claiming no victims. The large man continued pushing through the city, using his large sword to clear a path. Arthal watched for anyone coming his way  as he placed his helmet upon his head, and loaded his crossbow. He rushed back out into the fray!  

The Rose soldier looks to his right, to see Arjen de Sarkozy charging at another rioter, weidling knives for throwing. He makes his way down the square to Rick, who is standing in front of the bakery, searching for the foe, who Arthal had seen duck into the alleyway he is so familiar with.

“Rick, this way.” The two moved to the opening of the alley, and saw one of the two lead rioteers. “Rick, wait here...” Arthal moved around, flanking through one of the other many alleyways. He reached the top of the stairs, crossbow aimed down at the rioteer at large (Aslan). The man threw his hands into the air, as Arthal barked to him, “Back to the tree!” The man backed away, as Arthal moved down the staircase, crossbow aimed into the alleyway. “Rick, come on through...” Rick made his way down the alleyway, when the Adunian jumped out, smashing his sword downward, at the Rose. Arthal reacted quickly, firing his bolt from the crossbow, and winced slightly as he watched it dig into Hanrahan’s side. Arthal slung the crossbow back to it’s original position as he turned to see Aslan charging at him, sword high. The trained Rose quickly drew his own weapon, sidestepping, and sending his sword down at Aslan’s legs. Aslan’s footwork was to quick for Arthal though, as the swing scraped against the ground. Arthal and Aslan turned to face each other, only for the Rose to see that there were two rioters standing in front of him! Quick to escape, Arthal ran backward, turning into the bakery and throwing the switch, closing the gate behind him! The Rose moved through the Bakery, throwing chairs and tipping tables as he hurries through, and makes his way back out into the square. He rushes to Arjen and Balian,  who are tending to a wounded Hunwald. Arthal takes deep breaths, as Balian notices a man on the rooftop with a bow. “Arjen! We need to get down!” Arthal rushes to cover, taking a deep breath. He peeks over to see Arjen shifting to cover the wounded Hunwald! “Arjen!” Arthal moves out of cover, towards Arjen. He moves in the way of the Rose helping Hunwald, as the arrow flies down, piercing his shoulder. Arthal stumbled back, tripping over Arjen and Hunwald, landing, stomach up. “Gnah...” Arthal rolls to the left, pushing himself up. He stumbles to the church, moving indoors. He slides down the wall, grasping his shoulder, as the riot comes to an end.

The riot ended with 3 escaped rioters, and 1 dead rioter.

No Soldiers were killed, but 2 were wounded.

Hunwald, now recovered from his un-fatal wounds, lays his assailant's body into a grave within the city of Kingston. He wipes sweat from his brow, sighing as he looks to Arjen.

 

"Why must they cause conflict, Arjen? Why do they not see that we is helping?"
