dude 230 Share Posted August 19, 2013 Hello, my fellow LotCers! Now that everyone is aware that LotC has updated to 1.6 today, I've seen some comments stating that people don't know how to install mods on 1.6. So, I've decided to make my first guide explaining how to do so! Enjoy! !-Please make note that you must install WinRAR and/or 7Zip before attempting to install any mods.-! Step #1: Finding your ".minecraft" folder. Now, I'm sure that most of you already know how to do so, because a majority of LotC has mods such as More Player Models and Rei's Minimap. But, I will explain anyway. First: Press your start button. Second: Type in, "%appdata%" (without quotes) Third: Click on the folder labeled, "Roaming" (without quotes) Fourth: There will be a bunch of folders for you to click on, but the one you need to click on is ".minecraft" (without quotes) Step #2: Installing the Mod! First: Now, you may be confused on which folder to click on. The correct folder that will get your desired mod installed in no time is called "versions" (no quotes) Second: Hopefully you have already downloaded the mod. If not, here are some links to the more popular mods on LotC: More Player Models: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1122495-152-more-player-models/ [PLEASE NOTE: MORE PLAYER MODELS IS STILL IN 1.5.2] Rei's Minimap: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/482147-162-jul08-reis-minimap-v34-01/ Optifine: http://optifine.net/downloads.php Modloader: Third: Now that you have your mod and you are in your versions folder, we can install the mod! Click on the folder labeled "1.6.2" (no quotes) Fourth: Now that you're in your 1.6.2 folder, there will be a .jar file called "1.6.2" (no quotes), but in my case, it is a WinRAR archive, since I have it set to that. Fifth: Once in the jar file, it should look like this: DELETE THE FOLDER LABELED " META-INF " If you don't delete the META-INF folder, the mod will not work. Sixth: When META-INF is deleted, you can now pull out your mod that you wish to install. In my case, it is Mod Loader. Seventh: Simply copy all the files in your desired mod and drag them over into your 1.6.2.jar. If you did this correctly, a popup on the right will appear like it does below in the spoiler. All you need to do is click ok. Next, simply exit out of all the folders, mods, and jars. Finally, YOU'RE DONE! The mod should work! If you want to take precaution, backup your .minecraft before installing, should it mess up your Minecraft. PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF THIS BEFORE INSTALLING: This guide was made to show you how to install the modifications for 1.6.2 that only require the mod itself. Other mods require you to do more things such as get MineCraft Forge or put the mod in the mods folder. Please do not get angry or upset if it did not work because you needed to complete more steps in order to install it. This is my first guide, feedback appreciated!

monkeypoacher 8055 Share Posted August 19, 2013 Honestly, I tried my hand at installing mods on 1.6, and, wow, this new launcher sucks. This new minecraft.jar system is worse than awful. Everything about this update is terrible. But, ranting gets nobody anywhere, does it? Perhaps I'll make a mac version of this tutorial, perhaps. I mean, they don't even have the Force Update button anymore. You're required to do it manually. I like installing mods and such manually, but I think that they shouldn't have taken away Force Update from the launcher. :(

At first I felt as you do, now that I have the hang of how the new launcher works it's fine. For example: You can have many different versions of 1.6.2. One with shaders which you may use when recording, one with Rei's minimap and Optifine for normal use and the list goes on. There is many many benefits of this new launcher, all you have to do it get the hang of things. Alternatively you can use magic launcher which was already suggested.
