Ooc: Planning Ahead For 4.0

My fellow Hobbits, or whatever the hell you call yourselves now, lend me your ears!

As we all know, there are a few problems with the Hobbit community, but we must look ahead to solve them. I think we, as a whole, need to pool our intellectual resources together and start planning. Planning for what you ask? Well, to be quite honest, everything. We need to talk and brainstorm. We need to be proactive. We need to be prepared to improve when 4.0 comes out.

So what can we do in the meantime? We can draw out maps, draft new governmental systems, etc. Anything that you feel needs to be proposed for 4.0 needs to be brought before the entirety of the little folk and judged accordingly. Post your ideas to the forum, and we'll begin to create a better future for our roleplay.

4.0 waits on no sub-race, so lets get started guys.

Thanks you shiftnative for the wip 4.0 map

Halflings are the friendly jovial folk who operate the welcome village near spawn/could temple. We greet new players, provide shelter, along with fun and safe roleplay. Would definitely become an RP hub because of its proximity, would be easy on new players, wouldn't really detract from major nation RP, would not detract from combat RP. I think it's a perfect solution. You're welcome.

I thought it would be nice to be based around a bay and have the town stretch around the bay slowly going down in tiers building burrows and then have the inn on a pier.

I'm a bit awful with paint but you get the general idea right?

LEGEND:

A:General Meeting Place, Fairground, Docks(?), Inn.

D:Most prestigious famliy's burrows

B:Well respected family's/people's burrows.

C: Menial Labor, Decent people's burrows

E:Big ass fields.

Note:Scary woods could be turned into more fields.cORClOT.png?1

Alright, here's a little map I drew up as an idea. I'm not really sure of the size the ig map will be so we may not be able to fit all this in. Colored text corresponds with color on the map. Sorry if some of the words are hard to read.

Inn or central place of meeting, probably with area outside to serve as a town center/ rp hub

Dock's Docs (#Neverforget)

Area for tents and festival happinings

Shops and such for halflings that want to play merchant characters, also for the brewery and public buildings

Central halfling statue or landmark, something to admire and that makes the town stand out

Burrows, may not be able to fit that many in (yes, I know they look like turds)

Large signature halfling farms

Secret base, for an antag like group belonging exclusively to the halflings (should be good for events and such)

Dangerous valley that may be heavily wooded, caves with trolls, bears ect...

Random trees and guff, to make the new village feel secluded like a halfling village should be but also not block the village from the main road too much. Possible room for expansion of needed.

The border of the halfling lands, may need to change in size depending on changes.

Edit:

Great idea, this would be a good 'advertisement' making sure people know where lenfarthing is.

Heres my take on it.:

Purple: Witch Woods
Yellow: Burrows
Magenta: Wheat Fields
Orange: Pumpkin Wall / Statue
Brown: Windmill and food storage.
Red: Town Center, Inn and other stuff.
Dark Blue: Tents and such.
Black: Some sort of an Antag.

I was thinking with the housing, we could have paths and roads cut into the cliffs and build like that. Plenty of room for everybody.
On the note for the antag, mabey we could have it either be a spiderling (search it in the lore section) or some type of a mountain troll.

Lastly the orange dot in the middle of town should either be a massive mabey 10 x 10 pumpkin, or some type of a statue or petrified Ent.

Pushing RP needs closer to the road will help you out a decent bit, move them fat farms behind. Here is my take on it:

Iqs3Ix8.png

Red: Inn/Tavern/Pub

Magenta: Fairgrounds/Marketplace

Brown: Burrows

Light Green: Piers for boats and fishing

Cyan: Monument (Giant Golden Shovel?)

Black: Cave Entrance for spookies

Yellow: Crops

Dark Green: Mean Nasty Forest

Or Snowshovel's idea. That one is good.

GOVERNMENT

A council of the most trusted players make all the decisions.

Besides mapping out the Vales I have something else to talk about:

O' the grea' fes'ivals.

I notice that our festivals seem kinda, impromptu. I think we should put togethor a group of halflings, maybe 3, called "The Festival Committee" . Here we can set IRL dates for yearly or monthly festivals. If we have more frequent, planned, festivals we can attract more and more players to the new Vale.

I really don't think we need government change too much.

Keep the elders and just make it so all halflings can vote/tell their opinions and have good sway.

We already have this but it's small, and decreasing by the days.

I suggested Halflings in Paradise. Like we move to a Hawaiin type island with a volcano. Like the Kha island but less foresty and more beachy sprawling fields. Anywho I'll be sorting this out as we get closer.

I feel like that would make us even harder to find and get to, which is a major problem.

Smaller vale, with  less burrows.

Some more hillses please.

I don't want to influence every little thing! I leave it somewhat bare so that once we get in their with voxel-sniper we can have a more appropriate vantage point (in-game) - things typically make more sense when you can see it from ground level I've found ;p

Feel free to save that image and doodle on top of it with painter programs to get your ideas across most coherently, halflings

How big is that in game?

We need a LOT less land than 3.0.

(on a side note I also like snowshovel's idea, but I'd rather we still retain the Vale-like feel of the town. No houses, no humans, no war towers, etc.)

I agree with Dova, that huge body of water doesn't sit right with me.

edit: perhaps you could extend the mountain around to block the water off from the main part of the village. Perhaps you could have three peaks like the ones we have now.

Then get your butts drawing ontop of the image with paint programs to show how this bay would be shaped! :dontsay:<3

Busy atm, but I've already sketched some village layout stuff on paper. I will be on paint as soon as possible.
