Actually, I find that when I updated my MC, and subsequently my minimap, the server saved my waypoints. This was with Rei's, so IDK what would happen with a different one.

They didnt make their own item, What they did was add a plugin that allowed custom crafting recipes and modified the effects of the Fire Resistance potion.
