  2. It was increased from the initial settings, plus boars spawn very frequently. Using better weapons will also get better drop rates.
  3. Tech Update - Triage Team Many of you may have seen my recent posting looking for applicants for the Triage Team. I am happy to announce that the team is now assembled, @MCVDK and @Deer__ have been full trained and are happy to help you with any bug reports or issues you encounter in-game. Note that they are unable to help with any refunds, password/auth issues, or issues with the forums or Crowns at this time. They also will not be working on any code, plugins, or node setup. However, they will be the first to look at any /treqs that come in, and will be helping keep an eye on issues or suggestions that pop up through Discord. Many thanks to them for helping out! Map and Lighting Issues Thanks to our maintenance tonight, all issues including rendering maps, raining indoors, and (most) lighting issues should be resolved. If you encounter a lighting issue (absence of light or strange lighting in an area) in the next week, please make a /treq. Now, onto the patch notes. Note that a few of these things were done through hotfixes earlier this week, but have been documented here for info. Vortex 0.2.1 Patch Notes Legend [+] Addition [~] Change/bugfix [-] Removal [#] Work in progress [!] Note Added Bears [+] Bear nodes are located at30 different locations across the map. Bears prefer mountainous areas, and seem to have an affinity for yellow alum. Bears nodes spawn one group per successful spawn attempt, with 1-3 bears in a group. [+] For tiles with the ranching improvement, two groups are spawned instead of one. [+] Bears have a 100% drop chance for Bear Hide and Bear Steaks. [+] Bears are passive until attacked, but hit hard and have plenty of health! Avoid going at them alone, and be careful around any cubs if the momma bear is around! [+] Bears have a chance to deal Bleed Damage. This is reduced with certain armors [!] This will allow players to make the necessary crafts to progress to Ferrum tier blacksmithing (LOTC equivalent to iron). [#] Another mob should be added over the weekend. Item Editing [+] Editing of Vortex items is now possible. If you find any odd behavior with this, please report it on our issue tracker. Nuggets and Blocks [+] Gold and iron nuggets and blocks can now be crafted from Ferrum and Aurum. Note, that like coal blocks, this is an irreversible craft. Nodes [+] Black dye nodes have been added to the Garden of Idols. Tweaks to the Textile Bench [-] The hunting and farming clothes have been removed until these mechanics can be fully implemented. Blacksmithing [~] A few metals have been renamed to better fit roleplay and lore. Archery [~] A dupe-glitch with arrows was fixed. Ranching [~] An exploit to obtain unlimited fleece was fixed. Make sure to join the Tech Discord to get involved in discussions, and submit bugs on the issue tracker. Cheers, The Tech Team
  4. This maintenance is now concluded. Greetings, Please note that we will be performing maintenance on the main game server and all lobby servers on Thursday, December 10th, starting at 12:00 AM EST (5 AM GMT, 9 PM PST Wednesday night). This maintenance may last up to eight hours, during which time our main game server will be unavailable, and access to lobbies will be limited. However, there will be no effect on the forums, and should there be any changes to this schedule, they will be noted on this post. This maintenance is necessary to resolve a variety of issues we have discovered with the Almaris save file since map launch, which is related to the strange behavior some players have noticed. The risk of data loss is minimal, and we will be performing a full system backup before we begin just to be safe. Thank you all for your understanding, and apologies for the inconvenience. Cheers, The Tech Team
  5. Yes, all dyes will be added in an upcoming patch
  6. Coal is often used as a decorative block in builds, including terrain. This stops people from griefing the world to get coal
  7. Vortex 0.2.0 Patch Notes Legend [+] Addition [~] Change/bugfix [-] Removal [#] Work in progress [!] Note Nodes [+] Sugarcane has been added to Eastfleet. [~] The amount of resource nodes for basic building blocks has been greatly increased. [!] If you feel as if a basic resource is still too hard to get, please shoot me a DM on Discord. Added Hunting [+] Added hunting mobs spawn in certain tiles. These tiles each have five ‘spawner nodes’, which will attempt to spawn a group of mobs every 5 seconds. If successful, nearby players will receive a text and audio cue, and the node will be placed on cooldown for 10-30 minutes. [+] For tiles with the ranching improvement, three groups are spawned instead of one. [+] Boars are currently the only configured mob, they have a chance to drop Tough Hide, which can be used to craft Hardened Leather. This drop chance increases with the tier of your weapon. [+] By default, Boars are passive mobs, but if you attack one, watch out, as the whole drove will be after you! [+] Boars have a chance to deal Stun Damage. This is reduced with certain armors. [!] Bring gear and friends, these mobs hit hard! [!] We will be looking for feedback on Boar spawning and attributes in the coming week, please join the Tech Discord to give feedback in #vortex-suggestions. [#] More mobs will be added next week. Major Overhaul to Textile Bench [~] The interface has been completely redone to be more user-friendly. [~] Unavailable items will now show more helpful tooltips [~] Selected items will now show a glow effect rather than becoming an emerald [~] All clothing recipes have been redone, with profession and tier-specific naming schemes and colors. [~] Start-tier clothing recipes now required fleece instead of cotton. [-] Remove clothing for unimplemented professions until they are ready. [!] Similar reworks will come to other workstations moving forward. Ranching [+] Added a ‘vortex-ranching’ WorldGuard flag to designate the tile-improvement. [+] On high-load, mobs can be put on a lead to temporarily re-enable AI. [+] Added a lead recipe that is similar to vanilla, though uses copper instead of smile. [+] Added fleece, which can be gotten by shearing sheep and spun at the Spinning Wheel. [~] A dupe-glitch with breeding materials was fixed. [-] Leather drops have been removed, but animal hide drops have been increased. Four hide can be crafted into one leather at the Workbench. Fishing [+] Added proper fishing loot tables for each of the respective fishing flags. [~] The fishing pole recipe has been made available. [~] Modified rarity of various fish in the fish registry [!] Different biomes give you different fish (based on the main biome in a tile), fish-around to figure out which! Default Workstation Miscellaneous Fixes [+] Durability will now work correctly for weapons and armor. Any weapons or armor crafted before this patch will update on your first use. [+] Coal blocks are now craftable, however they can not be uncrafted back into coal. [+] Added more item internal item modeling to allow for custom texturing of Vortex items. [+] The Loom, Stonecutter, and Blast Furnace, when crafted using Vanilla recipes, will no-longer automatically convert to Textile Benches, Sawmills, and Alloy Furnaces. If anybody finds their Vortex workstations converting into their vanilla counterparts, please make a bug report. [~] Durability mapping to MC durability will now round-up to be better represent Vortex durability [~] Many under-the-hood improvements have been made. [~] Modified descriptions of various fish in the fish registry. [~] Reworked item names and descriptions for upper Alum variants. [~] Added various flavour-text to resources. [~] Needles will no longer till ground. [~] Improved several periodic tasks to improve performance. [~] All Vortex recipes that use the vanilla crafting bench should now show up in the Recipe Book. [~] The Book recipe has been made three paper, removing the leather requirement. [~] The Writable Book recipe has been made one book and one feather, removing the black dye requirement. Known Issues/Features to be Fixed [#] ItemEdit doesn’t allow tools or weapons to be edited [#] Gold and Iron nuggets cannot be crafted

  10. don't know what you're talking about 🙃
  11. Greetings Denizens of Arcas! Today I am happy to announce the official opening of our Transfer Vaults, your way to bring a travel trunk of trinkets to the next map. Inventories, mina, and certain persona attributes will be wiped going into next map, so this will be the only way to bring items over. Things like rename tokens and soulbind tokens will carry over. This time around we have upped the limit to 54 items, and made some improvements to the plugin to prevent abuse. Pack your bags everyone, Almaris in on the horizon, and the boat leaves soon! What are Vaults? Vaults are a way for players to cache their special items, books, and maps from this map to bring them over to the next map. We have an in-house plugin to make this process as smooth as possible, though there are some restrictions as outlined below. How Vaults Will Work Vaults for many years have been under the use of a plugin, and this map is no different. For Vaults, here is the list of commands and how it functions: /vault will open up a storage vault where you may store up to fifty-four (a double chest) of items to be carried over to Almaris (per account, not persona). You will be eligible to use this command from now up until 11:55 PM EST on Monday, November 23rd. In 8.0, to have your vault reviewed, you will type /vault once more, where it will bring up a ticket like system for vault reviewers to go over. One the request is finished, you may freely access and open your vaults. Books and Maps All signed and unsigned books and maps will be allowed in unlimited transfer, and do not count toward the 54-vault slot limit. There is a separate command, /storebook or /storebook all to store all in your inventory. After transition books and maps may be restored with /restorebook Vault Guidelines Here are the listed limits, information, and guidelines upon the upcoming vaults. General Guidelines Vaults will be 54 slots per-registered-account There will be no Shulker Chests in Vaults Diamond armor and swords will not be allowed, if you have an important relic that is diamond, contact me on Discord. Any banners, player heads, RP food, or RP drinks may be stored freely (no signature required). Unsigned or Material items will not be transferred (except as mentioned above). An Unsigned item is simply with no signature. Material items are things like a PVP kit, non-RP food/tools, etc, alongside Botany Herbs, Salves, or Oils. Exception: ST-approved mineral-node materials will be permitted (thaunium, boomsteel, lunarite, etc.) Tools, weapons, and armor may be stored, though must be nerfed before being put in your vault. This will make them do no damage beyond half a heart. This is to not interfere with the new Surge PVP and Vortex Skills system, which can be done with /vault nerf (item in your hand) or /vault nerfall (to nerf all in your inventory). Any unnerfed items should be automatically detected, and will be rejected from your vault automatically by the plugin so you can nerf them first. Most Shop of Wonders/admin shop items may be transferred (should they also be RP items too), but will be nerfed to lose all special effect using the above command. Spawn eggs, mob cages (tokeballs), greater soulstones, Soulweaving tomes, lockpicks, bolt-cutters, and siege-ladders are all not permitted. All vaults will be received post-review, post-transition. Removal Guidelines Old or Expired lore items will be removed and wiped from Vaults An “Expired” or “Old” lore item is one which has had it’s lore removed or rewritten. Common magics will include Transfiguration, Runesmithing, and Bloodmagic. If an item bears a green “ST-Approved” signature, it is almost certainly fine to take in a vault, excluding aforementioned herbs/salves/oils or items from lore that has been shelved or denied. Examples may include https://prnt.sc/uc88xq , https://prnt.sc/uc89hd , https://prnt.sc/uc89tj , https://prnt.sc/uc8ad9 , https://prnt.sc/uc8cdd . Items with unallowed PVP attribute, such as some snuck in from Athera, will be removed, and may result in a wipe of your vault. These weapons or armors will have special tags on them to indicate they are abnormal. (Ex. +24% arrow velocity, +4 protection -2 movement speed, etc.) Examples may include https://prnt.sc/uc8e37 , https://prnt.sc/uc8e71 , https://prnt.sc/uc8eqk , https://prnt.sc/uc8et6 Items of the same genre or type in multiple amounts will be removed (Above two in amount). To prevent resource inflation going into the next map. This involves things like herbs, node materials, event resources, and so on. This does not mean you cannot have twelve swords or twelve event items. It is just putting a limit on raw resources such as raw materials, or stacked event items. Vaults FAQ Q: Can I get my friend to take things for me? A: Yes, but everyone’s vault is their own responsibility. This means items will be removed, and players may be disciplined as if the items were their own. Q: Will we be waiting for months on end like the last map? A: No, Vaults are working on a much easier and more lenient system than before. Aswell, there is far more than just one person looking over everyone's vault. It will not be instant, but it will not take long. Q: What if I forget an item or lose an item from vaults? A: The item will be irrecoverable post transition. Q: I’ve nerfed an item but it still won’t let me put it in my vault, or conflicts with another rule, what should I do? A: If it is mechanics-related, contact me on Discord, if it is lore/magic related, make an /sreq. Q: I have additional questions regarding a specific item I want to vault. What should I do? A: Make an /sreq, unless the item is Faded Bluesteel/Diamond Encrusted, for those contact me on Discord. Q: I am banned for the next two weeks! Does this mean I lose all my items? A: Please contact me on Discord, depending on your scenario I may be able to help make special arrangements. Q: Will there be compensation for old/shelved or expired lore items? A: No. Q: I never got my vault from the last transition! What's do I do? A: We are aware some players had difficulty claiming their vaults the last time we moved due to the manual (non-plugin) system, please contact me on Discord ASAP, as these old vaults will be wiped in two weeks. Q: Why can’t I take my unnerfed tools/weapons/armor or Shop Of Wonders items? A: Simply to prevent unfair advantage from the beginning of next map - the same goes for raw resources and food. A fresh slate, particularly granted the upcoming economy granted from Vortex and Surge PVP. Q: So will my RP weapons/armor be useless next map? A: Partially, we will add a way to 'combine' them with a Surge PVP weapon/armor piece next map to copy the name and lore onto a PVP-usable weapon. Q: My glowing item lost it's special effect! A: This is a bug, message me on Discord with them items in your inventory and I can fix them. Any other questions? Please DM me on Discord, Llir#5410. Read the FAQ first!
  12. Hello, Some people were asking me if I had a save of Axios that included JBurg, I took a look and found this backup from January 1, 2017, about a month before the city was destroyed. Coords to the city are 1054 86 -382, though this download does include the entire Tahn section of Axios. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LBBrlmw-j5v0HQGitQvmRJr5FxbJ4ra3/view?usp=sharing Enjoy! - Llir

    Lore & Magic

#scope ol { margin-bottom: 1em; } #scope ol li { margin-bottom: 1em; } #scope ol li p { margin-bottom: 1em; } #scope p { line-height:1.5; } Lore and Magic Rules These rules are the main rules set into place for utilizing accepted lore on the server. “Loopholing” or other attempts to skirt by the rules or abuse due to a rule missing will not be excusable. If you believe you have discovered a loophole, you can report it to the ST and we will patch it. Those found abusing it will be punished. Just because you have access to a lore piece OOCly does not mean your character has that information in-game. Do not RP having lore knowledge on something you have not been taught about in roleplay. One must adhere to the existing lore, any attempts to powergame or lorebreak is against the rules. Any lore roleplayed must have approved lore or a guide to back it up. If it is not written down in the lore or a guide, it is not valid. You may approach Story Team management or the Story Team admin if you have qualms with a Story Team member’s ruling. Alternatively, you can fill out an anonymous staff report found here: Click me. If you wish to submit lore, you must adhere to the following: Click me. If one wishes to post a guide to a lore piece, they must first have it verified by the ST. Lore and Magic Usage A player must wait one week after joining the server to apply for a lore application. Characters under sixteen may not learn any feat/magic or become a creature, unless explicitly specified in the relevant lore. A Magic Application (MA) or Feat Application (FA), or in some cases a Creature Application (CA) is required to use magic, perform a feat, create/utilize advanced alchemy on a character, or play a creature. Unless stated otherwise, a MA, FA, or CA requires a teacher or creator to vouch on the application. Lore Applications are unique to one's character and do not apply to the entire account or other characters of the player. Lore Applications may not be used across Minecraft accounts even if they are on the same character. If you wish to transfer a Lore Application to another account (to be used exclusively on that account), contact the Story Team. When a character is peram-killed, the player must notify the Story Team so the old application can be removed. Each character has 5 Magic Slots. MAs and CAs generally take up one slot, though this may vary. Details can be found in the "Magic Explanation" section of each lore piece. FAs do not take up magic slots. Some magics and creatures are incompatible with one another and may not be used or held upon the same character. This is outlined within the lore for at least one of the magics, and must be followed regardless of slot availability. Crafting lore items must adhere to existing lore. Magical Artifacts must be created for any magical item that slightly bends currently accepted lore. It must have been created using lore-abiding techniques/magics, though the end result may be different. To use an item from a lore piece (ex. alchemy potions, player-signed items, story-signed items, etc), you must have a mechanical representation of the item in your inventory. If the item is consumable, it must be mechanically destroyed/consumed immediately upon use in roleplay. By making a lore application (magic/creature/etc.), you are declaring that you are willing to adhere to the lore of what is being applied for, including any PK clauses or other types of clauses dictated in the lore. This overrides the main server rules in regards to the 7 day policy. If a player is dissatisfied with some aspect of a transformative creature or magic, they may revert their character back to the state they were before being made into the creature/picking up the magic. The player has a two week period to decide if they want to do this or not, starting from when their application is accepted. The player will lose any and all information gathered regarding the creature/magic during the two weeks, including its users, should they revert. Should the player have recorded information prior to reverting or give out information regarding the creature/magic that was previously unknown (e.g. ousting another player’s character as a creature/magic user), they lose the right to revert. Under certain circumstances, a character may have their CA/MA revoked and all effects of it reverted at discretion of Story Management. This may be used by request when a lore piece is soon to be shelved, inactive, or due to other OOC circumstances. Further, the character may suffer memory loss, though this will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. When a CA/MA is shelved, characters retain all knowledge and information, but lose the abilities and effects of the CA/MA. Minor aesthetic or mental side-effects may be retained, though one should consult with Story Management. Such effects may not be passed on. Details concerning the tech-lock can be found here (https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/forum/1367-techlock/). This covers what metals may be used for smithing or invention, what poisons, medicines, and treatments are permitted armaments, specific ranged weaponry, the status of steam power, redstone, transportation methods, and creating advanced devices or contraptions, including with magic (magi-tech) Teaching/Spreading CAs Unless otherwise specified in the lorepiece, one may not teach any magic without an accepted Teacher Application for said magic. This Teacher Application is specific to the character, and does not apply to the entire account of the player. Likewise, many CAs may not be openly created, but require an in-character creator, who in certain cases will also need a TA If you want to spread lore that is locked behind an application, you must adhere to the following: You must wait until Tier 5 (unless otherwise stated in lore) before posting a Teacher Application for a magic or creature. You must wait at least 3 months (unless otherwise stated in lore) before posting a Teacher Application for a feat. Your character must be capable of spreading the CA if you wish to do so, whether it be advancing to a specific type of creature with the capability of doing so or being taught a ritual to spread it. One may learn magic, for select magics (see: Self Teaching), which fall under the umbrella of "OOC Oversight". With this, a student and teacher must still roleplay connection to the magic, and the student is required to self-roleplay lessons to see progression in the magic. OOC Oversight requires permission from the teacher to perform, and aswell, must be marked on the student's Magic Application. A character may only hold 4 TAs at a time. Feat TAs do not count towards this limit. For each TA that a character holds, they may teach three students the magic simultaneously. They must keep the student until they reach Tier 4 in the magic, and any required rituals are complete. The teacher should be actively involved in teaching roleplay. If a student is dropped, they must find another teacher to continue learning the magic until they reach Tier 4. Any remaining spells or rituals once a student reaches Tier 4 can be taught to them by anyone Tier 4-5 in the magic with the knowledge. There must be valid roleplay to drop a student. This roleplay must be verified by a member of the Story Lore sect, and the student must be informed. In rare cases, OOC reasons will be considered, but must be approved by Story Management prior to dropping the student. Although a student is tied to a specific TA, students may have lessons from anyone possessing a TA in said magic. A character may have ‘teach only’ magics, for which they no longer practice the magic, but may still teach it. These count towards the 4 teaching slots. For magics in which one can hold an accepted Teaching Application, but is not required to have a Magic Application (see: Self Teaching), the player who holds the Teaching Application may put themselves on their own app as a student by contacting the ST. Then, they may progress through their magic at an accelerated pace, each tier taking half as long as typical (rounding down if instances apply.) Self-roleplayed lessons are unrequired to progress. (Example of rounding: from 7 days Tier 1 -> Tier 2, rather than "3.5", the player would instead simply do 3 days.). Breaking Lore The Lorebreaking Protocol can be found here: click me. The following are the primary examples of what will lead to punishments under the Lore System: Any normal rulebreaking (powergaming, metagaming, trolling, harassment, etc.) utilizing lore elements may lead to an infraction. Substantial evidence or Repeated instances may lead to having a lore application revoked. In extreme circumstances this may lead to a temporary or indefinite blacklist. Powergaming, metagaming, or roleplaying unapproved lore will result in infraction. Roleplaying magic/creatures/feats incorrectly due to ignorance or simply not understanding the lore is not a valid defense for an infraction. The above is not a comprehensive list. Other behaviour which may constitute a lorebreaking infraction will be reviewed by Story Management. Lore punishments are account-bound, and affect all the player’s characters, including characters on alternate Minecraft accounts. Any member of the Story Team may be approached if there is any concern of lorebreaking. Screenshots and other forms of proof are appreciated, but due to log searching capabilities, it is not required. Instead, we need a timeframe for when to search the logs of the person(s) potentially breaking lore. OOC Lore Trading is not permitted. This may include teaching for OOC benefits, teaching with no prior roleplay, OOCly sharing locations of lore or event sites, or other in-character actions related to lore that do not stem from authentic roleplay. This is not a comprehensive list, and any infractions will be reviewed by Story Management. Lore infractions, blacklists, etc, may be accompanied by punishments from the Moderation team as well, they are not mutually exclusive.

  16. Greetings Denizens of Arcas, Today, we are announcing the departure of Braxis as an Administrator. Although we are very sad to see him go, we thank him tremendously for the time and work he has put in since the New Year, as well as him sticking around to help us select and transition his successor. As he is helping with the transition, you will still see him sporting the stylish red tag for another week or so before he retires into the ex-admin crypt. He will definitely be missed, but we wish him the best on his future endeavours. When Braxis announced his departure, the selection process began for the next Moderation Administrator, which we are very happy to announce the results for. BasketWeaver (Anore) will be taking the reigns and leading Moderation on our server. Basket first worked on staff back in 2011 and rejoined the Moderation Team when he returned to the server a year ago. Since that time, he has been a valuable member of the team and has done excellent work as a Moderation Manager the past few months. For a detailed explanation of the selection process, you can read the spoiler below: We are very excited to work with him and can’t wait to see where he takes Moderation and the server as a whole as an Administrator. Cheers, LotC Administration

    Remove 1.9

Just wanted to clear some things up: Our PVP plugin was broken for like 20 minutes yesterday, we did not sporadically switch our PVP system with no announcement, we would not do that, it is not April 1st. We are considering switching to a more robust PVP system, but not vanilla 1.9. The poll in the public Discord was not clear on that. We are having an in-depth discussion the topic of PVP and Skills in our Tech Development Discord server, and you are welcome to join: https://discord.gg/snEAeYx
  18. Hello all! Our world-map found at https://www.lordofthecraft.net/map/ (or directly at https://map.lordofthecraft.net/) has been updated as of today. Going forward, the map will be updated on the first of each month. There are both daytime and nighttime views of the map, as well as markers for Nation Capitals (checkbox on the right). I’ll look at adding markers for the higher-tier charters sometime in the future. Cheers, Llir
