  1. WTF is with the PvP removal? Wanted to run some drills and we can’t now.

  2. I strongly suggest appearing in Ves and applying to the Kaedreni military. This group is defunct at this time.
  3. A response is pinned, “This form of backward plotting has existed for at least a decade. The peoples of Lorraine were a threat to the status quo because those of the inner council lack basic diplomatic skills and basic foresight. Were someone more competent in the inner workings of the Empire, the intent of the council would have been to find external enemies and beset the armies of man upon them. It would have given the rowdy men things to fight and could have brought those quarreling closer together, much like the Rose, Blackmonts and Teutons during their era. Instead, we’re exposed to lackluster plots of personal gain, half-baked accounts of absent men and a weakened military as a whole. Naturally, you’re going to be pushed aside and ignored as irrelevant. You’re not part of the inner circle. But you’re not wrong, no.”
  4. A Kaedreni solider would side eye the keep in passing, “I truly wonder if this outcome is the work of the Emperor or men pretending to act in his interests and hoisting his name to further their personal agendas.”
  5. “Yes! Let us push away a competent military force in exchange for those that have routinely housed and enabled the behaviors of vagrants so that they might further sow dissent among the vassals. Surely we haven’t seen this sort of thing lead to instability of the empire before!” flatly states a Kaedreni solider.
  6. 90% of the experience is will to interact. If the bandits go into the experience with the “They’re just going to PG and draw this out for 2 hours,” mindset, it’s going to be a terrible experience dealing with the low effort bandit. And if the victim takes the, “They’re just going to use a hacked client / auto-clicker,” or “They just want my ****,” they’re not going to RP the outcomes, RP fear or put any genuine effort into the experience. The best we can do is enforce a bare minimum standard that’s fair around the situation and that actively punishes people with the ‘I don’t like to RP things that aren’t in my favor’ mindset. It’s seen in both bandit and victim alike. Pitiful to observe across the board.
  7. Upon reading the piece, a Kaedreni soldier maimed by flames mutters, “May the truth be illuminated.”
  8. “These terms lean unevenly against the peoples of Lorraine, telling of perspective on the situation. Disappointing.” states a Kaedreni soldier to no one in particular.
  9. A maimed kaedreni soldier fans the document over, “Seems those who handled the survey were incompetent at either amassing the information or advertising the intent to gather the information. Well, perhaps it will bolster the rally of the peoples of Haense and we’ll see them fighting the brigands as well. Ah, the Caer Bann haven’t existed for quite some time as well.”
  10. A Kaedreni soldier, maimed by fire, stores away the document whilst muttering to himself, “Whilst I don’t think it wise to be fighting amongst ourselves, I will not stand by whilst an investment and an ally is threatened. Should things come to blows, I only hope the Kadarsi have reflected upon who aligns with these men.”
  11. So, conflict rules be damned then? Or are they being altered as well? On another tangent entirely, the victim needs to consider their position in the world, their general outlook in regards to how the other nations RP and how their OOC attitude effects the fun of those on the other side. By being OOCly petty, declaring yourself IRPly superior and generally looking down upon your opponents, you’re murdering any potential opportunity for the conflict to be interesting and the defenders should be punished for this sort of behavior.
  12. A third-party response is pinned, ”Look not upon the guardsmen, as cowardly as they might seem. No, look upon those who hold your lives in their palms. Do they act with your best interests as citizens or do they seem to deny this incident? Have they taken to fortifying the city? Training and arming the guard? Or do they sit in their home, smiles upon their faces and pretend nothing has happened? Have they taken grasp of this situation or have they seemingly surrendered the situation to some unknown party? Do they guarantee your safety themselves or do they swear another will protect you? The guardsmen will not act if those who command them will not speak.”
  13. Nah, the incident unfortunately underlined some of the more obvious issues with the system for me, seeing as I wasn’t exclusively the defender in this situation.
  14. So, the rules we currently have which can be found here have some pretty hefty issues when put into practice. For starters, the conflict rules flatly state, “As long as you’ve got 3 people or less, you’re good to go! You don’t need to request any staff supervision, check any special cooldowns, or buy any custom tools. If you can run or jump your way in, you’re in! The only requirement is roleplay itself. Know why your character is there and what their goal is.” This directly conflicts with the server rules found here. The verbatim quote is as follows, “§5.15 If three or more people enter a city with the intent to disrupt/cause trouble, it classifies as a raid.” Another major issue I have is from the conflict rules which state, “Poor roleplay or abrasive and inflammatory behaviour may lead upset players to report you for a conflict blacklist. Together, we write a cooperative story based in mutual respect—even if our characters violently disagree. Their reality may be one of steel and sorcery, but we are just writers having a good time—the consequences for our characters are wildly different from ours which are, at most, mild disappointment.” This doesn’t make the effort to cover poor victim RP. At all. It’s extremely common behavior for players to simply run from potentially negative RP that they assume their character will be defeated in. Essentially nothing keeps players from just hard bailing on RP and if a player comes across another that they’re at war with, I’m seeing the routine victim excuse of, “Copy & Pasted emotes!” What the hell does this even mean? If someone pre-emotes because they know the other side is going to bail the moment they get close, they’re to be punished. Do the staff actually expect the attackers to sit somewhere for 10 – 30 seconds typing out a meaningful emote that precise moment? I suggest changing this to cover both sides of the field and not just the attacker. As much as I understand and deal with sub-par villainy, if there’s any RP prior to PvP at all, It’s flawed to direct attentions in one direction. I strongly suggest going the “As fair as the situation permits at that given moment,” route instead of playing into the favor of either side. The Good-Spirit Clause. Whilst I understand this and the desire to press toward this, it’s not possible with the playerbase we have present. What’s stated is, “Wars are roleplay events involving the characters of two or more nations. Both sides cooperate in good-spirit out-of-character to write a gripping and meaningful story in-character. As stated in our community guidelines, there is no path to “victory”. Together, we weave an epic tale involving hundreds of unique characters. Characters with a family to protect, a legacy to uphold, and personal ambitions, fears, and fascinations.” Unfortunately, I’ve never seen this happen. The defender typically maintains the ‘hero’ persona with little to no regard for the IC situation and legitimate odds. People would rather outright leave than roleplay on the defensive and faltering leg. Those that wish to remain often fall back into the rules of the server and claim that they’re being OOCly targeted, that the RP around the encounter was bad, etc etc etc. Alongside this, there’s little to no incentive for leaders to press for agreeable terms to defend their citizens and quickly bring the conflict to a close. Once again the best that we can do, at least from my perspective is assess the IC logic of the encounter against set requirements that are deemed as ‘fair’ as the server can allow. Rules and how they apply should never be subjective. Ever. Before even looking further, it’d be decent to get these talking points weighed on.
  15. Well! To the individual that managed to acquire the Whisper Stone, add me on Discord RancidHound#1670

  16. New unrelated line going. Hoping folks are up for some critical thinking and planning.

  17. But does it still count as cannibalism?
  18. An old man screams in a distant keep, “I told ye’ to burn the damned forest! But no! Ignore what I says!”
  19. No, I have no given up on the swamp. It’s a self motivated line that folks have to actively pursue. I won’t spoon feed and force the line forward, especially not when players have a more pressing matter to attend to such as wars and political instability. Anyone wishing to pursue the line can easily toss myself a PM, as always.

  20. Dismas, feet rested atop the table of a local tavern, fans over the document. He’d grunt to himself and speak aloud to no one in particular, “If war for the sake of war is pointless, why has Curon collectively been declared an enemy of the state? What sense does it make to fragment humanity in this manner? What’s next, Ves?”

    Jackal Sect

The distinct chaotic song of construction about New Hilden has come to an end and the once rhythmic beating of hammers has been replaced by the routine cries of practiced struggle. Recruits from Heckelin have returned to the Sect and local recruitment has been opened. Men once soft will be shaped and molded to serve greater purpose.
