  1. Wait, wait, wait...so a town can technically toggle pvp off. It can also not die mechanically. It can also deny war claims ooc. So...technically a town cannot be destroyed or killed by any means, rply or pvply. It can be annoyed rply, but that is subject to ban report for harassment, which is unrelated to this post but still a thing. Did I read that correct?
  2. Humans can be separated by culture, but subraces cannot be made based on culture. That is like calling Southern Americans racially different from Northern Americans. I am still hanging onto the ck2 ideal. Subraces should be different at a genetic level.
  3. It can be put on paper, but in the end a lot of Humans will not want to label themselves. Especially the ones that do not live in Oren. They will continue to just go by Human and not bother with specifics. Mainly because those people would not want to be labelled as anything related to Oren, and all of the subraces are traditionally Oren. These are people like the Adunians, Human druids, Humans living with Elves, and the randoms (Those people that just build random towns and no one really knows who they are or where they came from). Edit: I agree with Firestar. These subraces that you listed are mainly culturally based, and there are no key physical traits that separate them from the others. Southeron got by being so small because their skin sets them apart easily, they are very easy to contrast. It is not as easy to breakdown Northerons into even smaller subraces. Edit2: It is the same thing with High Elves, the Wood Elves, and the Dark Elves. They all have acute physical traits that separate them from each other. You would have to change the way that each new sub-race looks in order to pull it off.
  4. The difference between Heartlander, Northerners, and Raevir are more cultural than racial. I don't really agree with making subraces for people that look the same unless you are going to look into making them look different rply. Raevir are traditionally black hair, pale skin, and blue eyes, but anyone can look like that and rp as a different subrace. Rather than do this, extend subraces by branching out into cultural groups. OR follow ck2 standard. Ethnic group Culture group Religion group For example, you could ethnically be Raevir, but have influence from heartlander. You could also follow an Aengul instead of the traditional Aengul. Edit: Southeron should really be a subrace though, but they do not rply come from Northerners, so they cannot be apart of them racially as a subrace. Most Southerons that still play hang out with the Elves as far as I have seen. The playerbase is one of the smallest niches. I don't really know why, maybe because there are not as many easily available skins.
  5. I know it is not LotC related, but I use Skype a lot to communicate. I tried all of the options on Skype's main webpage, but I still cannot get it to let me log in. I tried uninstalling already, as well as updating ie and skype.
  6. Fancy-strelt strokes his beard, sighs, then speaks up. "Macecatcher likes false-titles most. Things they have but do not have resources to keep or hold. Just make giving of land, and Adunian will follow like Dog. Likes to pretend it is more than it is."
  7. Fancy-strelt sits in a chair, folds his legs, and begins to sip tea. He pepares for the clusterfuck that is about to ensue. "Niet. Good Dwarfy will keep Macecatcher in check. Keep Macecatcher out of Oren lands. Good Dwarfy is Dwarfy that keeps babeh Adunia from fecking up."

  10. How to Build in a Roleplay Setting Most of the player base, regardless of whether or not they are a rich man or poor man, knows how to build or build out of character. That is silly and is the main cause of the lack of jobs in the game. Because things can be done in a few seconds, no one bothers to role-play it. I can't fix that, but I can try to promote the actual role-play of it. Instructions Prepare your materials. By setting down planks, strapping wood with rails/string/wool, or laying down stone blocks, you can create a nice work environment that tells people construction is going on. You can add things like sawmills, small foot anvils for nails or mending, and marks for houses. When building a house, consider the environment. If you are near a river, you may be subject to flooding, mold, or rot. In order to prevent this rply, consider building the base of your house with stone or building up the ground beforehand. Choose a location that is not likely to detract from the surroundings. For example, if you are building near the main highway in the Fringe, try to pace back a ways so that it is not crumped up too close. Also, try not to block roads or make it difficult to find side paths. Keep in mind who you are building for. Human buildings do not make sense in Elf territory unless Humans live there. When you begin construction, start with the frame. This is simple enough. Simply build wooden supports, perhaps with logs, then construct a frame of what you would like it to look like. This makes rp sense, but it also helps to guide you along oocly when trying to build. It serves as a sort of blueprint. Vary your materials. Repetition of blocks is often boring. Try not to spam too much of one block, and try to build in default when possible. What looks good in a texture pack may not look good in default. Try not to cookie cutter your buildings. If you are building a city, it stands to reason that they may look similar. You can make them look the same, but try to make small changes that get them to stand apart from the others. There are no ooc styles to building, so do not be influenced by other people. I encourage everyone to build in a way that is rp applicable, as well as attempt to roleplay it when possible. Build in a way that suits you, and try to make it good for other people. Anything done well should not be rushed. Try not to use heavy materials, such as stone, on a wooden frame or support. It rply cannot hold it. For example, don't use stone with wood walls. Use a stone roof for a stone house. Actually RP Building Consider adding mortar (stone) under supports in order to keep them still. MC does not have modern tools, so it is very simple. You can get by with good ol' hammer and saw. When laying bricks, you can rp actually mixing materials together or cutting stone. You can do this with a chisel and a hammer. In order to move support beams, you can rp using a wood pick. This is similar to a scythe, but it is smaller and designed to latch onto wood (You know the saw mills in Skryim? Those!). Modern day buildings are insulated in order to prevent wood from warping. Keep in mind that buildings in LotC are not nearly as good as modern buildings, so they are subject to deterioration over time. Don't just break a house though. Rp that the wood is rotting, or that stone is cracking. Do this with rp signs. Bonus Tips This is stuff that can be ignored, but I find it useful. When building, you can use stairs to simulate holes or depressions in walls or roads. If you build it in two lines, you can simulate a cart traveling down the road. Use oak wood default, and use spruce wood in order to rp shadows or moist logs. This also applies for planks. If you have a primarily brick house, add cobblestone to show wear in the building. This could be a section that is crumbling or has suffered damage. Build fireplaces. Most homes in non-electric homes have a fireplace or some sort. Avoid using materials that would not support itself. For example, leaves would make a poor frame. Find different rp situations for items. Wool is not wool most of the time in this game. It is used as colored planks or brick in substitute for clay. I actually prefer wool over clay because it has more texture to it. Chests can be rped as barrels or crates, but you may consider adding rp signs to differentiate. Quartz blocks can be used as meat, leaves for bushes or shrubs, and gates for handles. You could construct a makeshift cart using slabs, staircases, and gates. Rp signs! Add signs to bolster rp. Got a kettle hanging over the fireplace? Rp sign it! Mc simply does not have every item our heart desires, but you can get around it. Try to vary windows. Glass is easy to get on mc, but how do you make it? It's a complicated process of glassblowing, and there has never been a glassblower in lotc. I am not saying do not use it, but trapdoors, gates, and fence posts can be used as substitutes. Gates have the added bonus of being able to open, while the others are stationary. Example Roleplay (Going to Class. I will update this evening with designs and add a agriculture section with trees I have been working on). Boris latches onto a fallen tree with his pick, then begins to drag it towards the camp. After getting it into position, he places it with the others and straps them together with a long piece of rope. Lastly, he throws a tarp over it and uses rocks to keep it still.
  11. In a far away land, Elves begin using iron as a cheaper substitute for brick.
  12. I cannot really support this because Mog, but I do feel sympathy for you. The current requirement for becoming a leader of a nation is having a lot of ooc friends. I believe it has always been like that for Oren, and it is the reason that power changes so much in Oren. This is true for every nation currently except the Dwarf nation. It was not like that for the Elves before Zion. I don't feel it is right, but at the same time I cannot accept your proposal.
  13. Cjmate8 has been thinking same brain-thoughts as Firestar25 since 2013.
  14. Brother Sergus does not recognize the legitimacy of the Empire as it does not contain 80% of the de jure counties of Oren, and the Emperor does not hold the two kingdom titles necessary to reform the Empire. "For the Kingdom of O...Kae...Hans- of Man! Kingdom of Man!"
  15. I am writing a research analysis for my Women's and Gender Studies class. I have been collecting data for the past two weeks, but I never considered making an online survey. I would like to ask a few questions, and I would greatly appreciate the community's contribution to my work. The information gathered will be used strictly for study, and I will not bring anyone's name up. Edit: I mainly look into how cartoons shape people's opinions about themselves. The thesis is something like, "Can critically analyizing stereotypes in the media cause introspection within the viewer?" Basically, I believe that by studying stereotypes about your own race you can dismiss or agree with part of it. After a while, the media realizes this and begins to change how race and gender is stereotyped. I used Johnny Bravo, Codename Kids Next Door, and the Flintstones in my work.
  16. Realism > Magic. The might of Oren shall back this unless they don't care. Which is likely.
  17. It is in my great wisdom and love that I promote the Crusader Kings 2 rules for war. Not only will this solve needless wars, but it will create more immersive roleplay for warclaims since they will have to have a valid cassus belli. http://www.ckiiwiki.com/Casus_Belli
  18. Which can be solved by a GM being more specific. The rule is pretty broad, so it is up for interpretation. It needs revising so that there is no room for error. This exact thing has happened to me, and it is annoying at times.
  19. Yuln'okar packs his bags. "To Leanniel! Or whatever is lef-." Anthos floods. "Damn. Back to the Dwarves. I always liked the Dwarves. Not sure why we left."
  20. Cjmate8 has never seen a Dwarven woman; as such, he continues to believe that all Dwarves are born in giant fermentation vats. And they have beards. Fully-grown beards.
  21. I don't really have a problem with the lore for this. The ideas is fine. Only thing is, I think they should be wild instead of already owned. The idea of already owning a rare, near extinct, species does not sit well with me.
  22. I'm not really a fan of lore that is only applicable to a handful of people, and you have to go through those people to be apart of it. It's sort of like runesmithing, which I dislike, but at least it is available to most Dwarves that have proven themselves. This is clearly only available to you and your friends, which is wrong.
