    zb1LH6n.jpg

TO THE GOOD CITIZENS OF HELENA,

Hark! Sons and daughters of the Empire, our great imperial city once more is presently engaged in the fine tradition of electing its own leader. We are privileged and honored by the Emperor’s grace to enjoy a degree of autonomy within the local government of this great City. Alas, our current Mayor is not seeking re-election. Hence, we are pleased to announce...

    2e7272f2b3bca3fef41f42960aa4b681.png

Vote Cecil V Halcourt for Mayor of Helena in two Saint’s Days. Local elections officials have spread word that the election will take place in two Saint’s Days at Varoche Hall, across the street from the tavern, in the Vesian fashion. What this means is that you must show up to Varoche Hall at the designated time, and voting will take place then and there. Cecil’s victory will surely be announced by the end of that night.

(Click here for the post with more information on the election. It will be held this Sunday, Dec. 29th @ 5pm EST)

If you have questions, comments, or inquiries for the good man who will surely be your next Mayor, you may visit 8 Manston Road in Helena to chat with him or a member of his campaign staff. You may also tack replies to this poster and we will send a response via courier posthaste.

    Yours sincerely,

    Cecil V Halcourt

    Candidate for Mayor

    [Vassal] Barony of Pembroke
    [Vassal] Barony of Vilacz
    =========================================
    Date of Signing: 1655
    =========================================

The Kingdom of Renatus holds vast territory, with many diverse peoples owing fealty to His Royal Majesty the King, Aurelius Horen. Throughout the years, many lords and ladies have sworn to the Horen scion, adding their armies to the Renatian horde, and finding peace through service. These various folks together comprise the Renatian nation – from Adria to Ostmark, they collectively form the heartland of humanity.

Law and logic assert these men and women as subjects of the Renatian crown. They therefore, quite naturally, assist one another. The Renatian armies defend her people; her people, in turn, offer tax and levy to the crown. It is a trade off – a feudal hierarchy. Some of the Renatian vassals themselves have vassals. Just as the leaders of the more powerful fiefdoms were awarded land and office by the King, so to do they offer land and office to subservient lords and ladies. The feudal hierarchy is as follows.

    King of Renatus | @Sultan

Various documents exist which notate and reinforce this subject status. Usually these exist as letters patent, royal letters, or other letters from the King or his Council which notate the privileges and expectations offered to individuals and in future their progeny. Copies of these exist in various legal libraries in the capital, and naturally each person awarded such a letter would maintain copies, so as to secure their rights were it to be taken to court, or challenged in any other way. These letters would serve as documentation of the feudal hierarchy. [Copies of any are linked above; click the name of a vassal.]

However, at times there would be land awards without such letters or documentation, or other documents would exist, such as the Adrian Proclamation. These vassals would merely swear a verbal oath to their liege lord, and begin their service without such regalia. Whether or not such a documented award was given, it is clear that those enfeoffed with land and titulage owed service to the crown, and would be expected to maintain justice, law, and order in their lands. In exchange for privilege and esteem, they are required to rally a levy, pay taxes, et cetera. Renatian vassals are expected to do as follows.

    • Rally as a singular entity, calling forth all their levy and banners.
    • Allow the crown to negotiate foreign policy.
    • Maintain law and order in their subject territories.
    • Negotiate and pay taxes to the King.
    • Uphold the lawful orders of the crown always.

[All tagged parties, please reply with a signature containing some roleplay, your character's name, titles, and such, notating the terms as per alliance rules.]

It’s another day nearer the battle!

So drink up, lads, and look brave...

For another day nearer the battle

Is another day nearer the grave!

    — The official cadence of the Brigade

The Southern Brigade is a militant brotherhood lead primarily by seasoned veterans of Curon’s war machine, and which fields multiple regiments under their command. The mission of the Southern Brigade is to protect the Principality and serve as a peacekeeping force within the southern lands of Atlas. Activities of the Brigade include monster hunting, sea or land based warfare, and additionally the general assistance of the crown in enforcing law throughout the nation.

We Brigadiers do not serve without reason.

We pick up the sword and shield now,

So that we may one day pick up the plow.

    — Ser Sylvester Halcourt

The Southern Brigade is a conduit for excellence; its Brigadiers are rigorously trained and forged into true men of war. There is a sense of camaraderie and fraternity amongst its ranks. Even when not marching off to war, they are brothers in arms. Additionally, a number of benefits are owed to our loyal Brigadiers.

    • Assignment of skillfully crafted armaments. Steel plate armor, ferrum  weaponry, and shields which bear the emblems of the Principality are given freely to its ranks. Some of the best smiths in Atlas are in the Brigade’s employ.

    • Unlimited flow of food and drink. The Principality brews its own drinks, from fine wine to hearty ale. Additionally, there are skilled chefs who lend their services to us.

    • Opportunity to ascend the social ladder in some form. One may begin as a mere pawn in the Brigade’s ranks of foot, but in time rise through the ranks and prove their worth, eventually perhaps earning tenure elsewhere by way of the Brigade.

    • Service to the Principality. The Brigadiers are good men of the regnum Curoniae. It is the duty of every righteous and honorable man to give service to his nation. The Brigade is a prime way of doing so.

    • A new home. Those who enlist are given free residence in one of the Brigade’s barracks. Additionally, its recruits are inducted into a brotherhood whose bond is unto death. Good folk whom serve the Principality will find their home here in more ways than one.

The Marshal is the commander in chief, bar the Prince, and the final decision maker of the Brigade. Their word is law, especially on the battlefield, although they will tend to coordinate if not be subordinate to whoever is acting field marshal during wartime.

    « Cᴀᴘᴛᴀɪɴs »

The Captains lead the regiments of the Brigade; they are the direct commanding officers of the common enlisted men. They are the backbone of the officer corps, as the de facto leaders of their regiments, and their ever loyal service is a true necessity. The Sergeants answer to their Captain directly.

    « Rᴇɢɪᴍᴇɴᴛs »

The Regiments include all the various assignments and divisions of the Brigade. All Brigadiers are assigned to a regiment, and have a direct commanding officer. There is strict hierarchy within each, and ascension is difficult but worthwhile.

    Rᴀɴᴋs

Marshal| Commander in chief of the Brigade, possessing their third star.

Captain| Commander of a Regiment, and was granted their second star as an officer.

Lieutenant | Second in command of a Regiment, and receives

Major |As the most senior enlisted personnel, majors earn an empty star as their insignia, which is symbolic of their leadership role.

Sergeant|Having 'signed the cross, ' sergeants are true veterans of the Brigade, renewing their oath and gaining more responsibility.

Corporal|Corporals are the core of the Brigade, and are well on their way to a commission, or other esteemed titulage.

    | Private|Enlisting with a 'private' contract, these are Brigadiers who have served for a few years, but are still learning the ropes.

Apprentice|Assigned a mentor of the rank Corporal or higher, these soldiers are still undergoing training.

Recruit|Recruits have taken the oath, and begun their service.

Unoathed|Fresh, green enlistees who have yet to take the August Oath.

    Bɪʟʟᴇᴛs

A billet is the secondary job a Brigadier is assigned. Of course their primary duty is to fight, but fighting requires food, weapons, armor, housing, and much more. Therefore each and every Brigadier is given a specific billet so that they may assist their brothers in the maintenance of Brigade property and collection of necessary resources. All Brigadiers are assigned a billet upon achieving the rank of Orderman 3rd Class.

This is after they have completed their basic arms training. As they become better and better at their billet, they ascend through the classes of the billet, eventually perhaps becoming the master of that billet. The classes are described below, and under that is a list of billets by category and designator.

One’s billet is described on the roster with their class and designator. So for example an MC1 is a master of the class C1, which is blacksmithing. Each class has a duty within their regiment and the Brigade as a whole; for example, masters help to train recruits in their billet so that they may become better at it. There is a rigid hierarchy to organize the production and maintenance of the Brigade.

    CLASSES

R Recruit The recruit has simply picked a billet and is not yet assigned a trainer. For now they focus on their arms training.

T Trainee The trainee has been assigned a mentor who is skilled in their billet to teach them it. They will learn the basics and begin to work for the Brigade in full.

G Graduate The graduate has completed their training and is proficient in their billet. They will begin to work properly for the Brigade.

I Instructor The instructor has worked their billet long enough to know its ins and outs. They will help to teach the recruits.

M Master The master is the best that the Brigade has to offer for that specific billet, overseeing Brigade activities relating to it and reporting to the Marshal himself.

    ALPHA | CONSTRUCTION

A1 Architect This billet is tasked with the construction of Brigade facilities and upkeep of Brigade properties. They are to make things functional and aesthetic. To be assigned this billet, one must pass rigorous tests to ensure they are properly skilled.

A2 Stonemason Masons gather materials for and craft brick, stone brick, and other materials that an architect needs, among other things.

    BRAVO | COLLECTION

B1 Miner The miners are the backbone of the Brigade. They gather iron and other resources for the Brigade’s smiths to use. These reagents are necessary to fuel the Brigade, and so miners are always in high demand.

B2 Woodcutter This billet simply gathers a variety of wood types, although it is not for this reason that they’re important. While doing so, they often find specific varieties of staffs, such as windswept staffs, which the Brigade’s smiths require to make the top notch weaponry that all are issued.

B3 Farmer An army marches on its stomach, a wise man once said. Therefore the farmers of the Brigade are a very important billet as well, feeding the masses of Brigadiers before they march off to war.

B4 Breeder Breeders ranch and breed livestock. Additionally, they selectively breed horses to give the Brigade’s cavalry an edge in battle

    CHARLIE | CRAFTING

C1 Blacksmith The blacksmiths are a very important and elite billet. The Brigade employs only the best of smiths, and they rarely take on apprentices. This maintains a great quality of armor and weapons. However as a result, it’s hard for Brigadiers to be given this billet.

C2 Alchemist The alchemist is one of the billets that make the Brigade supreme on the field of battle. Spending countless hours brewing stoneskin potions, alchemy fire, and much more, they give the Brigade an edge none can combat.

C3 Cook The farmers get the produce; the cooks refine it. They make exquisite breakfasts, lunches and dinners for the Brigade’s Brigadiers.

    DELTA | PROFESSIONAL

D1 Medic The medics are what keeps the Brigade alive, literally. When one is wounded in battle or otherwise, they are treated posthaste by one of the Brigade’s medics. This is one of the only billets which women are allowed to be; women may enlist and be assigned as a medic however their combat duties are very restricted.

D2 Reportmaster The Brigade has often one or two reportmasters whose duty is to maintain the roster and other Brigade documentation. They also conduct the annual census, among other things, and are general accountants.

D3 Quartermaster Usually the Brigade only has one quartermaster, whose duty is to organize and maintain the warehouse and armory. They are in charge of assigning armaments as per protocol as well.

D4 Barrister This billet is rarely filled, and usually only given to seasoned legal professionals. A barrister is one who argues in court on behalf and in defense of the Brigade, and is the designated prosecutor in all cases of a court martial against an Brigadier, or a tribunal, etcetera.

    ECHO | SPECIALTY

E1 Instructor Sometimes the Brigade assigns instructors, whom are senior enlisted personnel tasked with the training and oversight of their junior enlisted peers. They conduct training, brackets, etcetera and help to refine the common recruit into a good Brigadier.

E2 Tailor The tailor is in charge of helping to fix uniform errors and keep the Brigade’s Brigadiers up to standard, as per the handbook. [Must be a proficient skinner to help edit new recruits’ uniforms, to add medals when people are assigned them, etc.]

    Dᴇᴄᴜʀɪᴏɴ's Cʀᴏss

Awarded to Brigadiers who has served in the Brigade for no less than 10 years. The name, decurion, is a reference to various past military organizations. A decurion is a Captain of 10; a low level officer. The Brigade, however, does not employ such terminology, opting for more modern nomenclature.

    Tʜᴇ Kᴀᴇᴅʀᴇɴɪ Rᴏsᴇ
The Kaedreni Rose is awarded to those who display the utmost patriotism and nationalism. They are true Curonian citizens; physical embodiments of our national identity. This is a somewhat rare honor, often only given in reaction to great feats. If one perhaps saves the Prince from an assassin in a legendary tale of heroics, they might be awarded the Kaedreni Rose.

Given to any miners who donate at least 6 crates of iron to the Brigade, as well as a large mina bonus, this is in recognition of those who contribute the most important resource the Brigade needs. Iron fuels an army. Swords, axes, shields, armor, and all are borne of iron. This medal therefore exists to motivate good Brigadiers to help feed the beast that is our armory.

The City of Cyrilsburg is the center of the Principality of Curon, as its capital and the seat of the Prince. As the August Administration's leadership is tasked with national policy, international diplomacy, and more, the Cyrilsburg Municipal Government administrates the capital. This government is headed by a Mayor, and the Mayor is elected by the Curonian populace. He oversees the stewardry and other municipal officials. As our first Mayor's term comes to a close, we once more seek good candidates.

We do thus reach out to those esteemed citizens of Curon that would seek out this office, and enter a life of public service. The Administration doth require that each candidate prepare a speech, printing it upon posters, and distributing it across the nation. After a few Saint's Days, all candidates shall be allowed to hold a public debate. We encourage like minded individuals to approach the Administration if they intend on forming internal polities of any variety - political groupings, parties, or what have you.

–––––– Serve your nation. Run for office today. ––––––

One may at first declare their candidacy alone, but it mustn't stay that way for long. By the time of the election, we expect a split ticket. This means that both a Mayor and Deputy Mayor are joined together, and hold one place on the ballot. For example, mayoral candidate Jerry and his deputy mayoral candidate Jim would run together, and if one wanted to vote for them, they would vote for both of them. Partners may declare their candidacy together, but if a candidate cannot find a partner, they may declare an open candidacy now, and seek to make a political alliance with another lonesome candidate, merging their campaigns before the election takes place.

After the Mayoral Debate, the public vote will be tallied. Thenceforth, we shall hold a ceremony of commission for the newly elected Mayor and his Deputy Mayor, and welcome them to their new office. They will answer to the Chancellor, and will largely be in charge of helping lead the new administrative and municipal reforms, promoting a safer, more prosperous Cyrilsburg. After such leaders are selected, we shall also be seeking out a number of new stewards, and others, to be welcomed into the employ of the Cyrilsburg Municipal Government, as it is an ever growing organization.

[Post your candidate declarations in the Curon forum by the 31st of March. Both deputy mayor and mayor candidates must post their own declaration. Not sure which you want to run for? No need to specify. Just decide by the 31st. Be sure to get a partner, or find one after you declare. As candidates declare, debates will be scheduled between them. Stay tuned.]

One may only admit when he was wrong, and pray for forgiveness.

Ser Sylvester to the Court of Renatus-Marna, 14th of The Deep Cold, 1655

Today, the Principality of Curon's leadership has convened to discuss the political climate of our era. Turmoil runs rampant, political calls have beckoned the nations, and damned others into submission. It is thus that we have deliberated for many long days and sleepless nights, praying for the future of humanity and hoping for peace in this life. We have thus reached a conclusion, and moved forward posthaste. We do say this with a heavy heart; for we had initially participated in the Czena Confederation to thwart the once so-called "enemy, " the Crown of Renatus-Marna.

Such was a mistake on our behalf, for we have seen the truth that the Crown of Renatus-Marna explains, offering the Principality of Curon peace, despite our transgressions against them. They have seen peace and prosperity in our just nation – peace and prosperity that must flourish, for the next generation of our kin. We once thought ourselves an iron curtain, an iron curtain that would defend the beaches, the fields, the laymen, and the civilians; but our efforts had become malformed and manipulated. It is, on this new day that the Principality of Curon does disavow the Czena Confederation and its transgressions upon the Northern Atlas Alliance – more specifically, the Crown of Renatus-Marna.

As we are but mortal men, prone to error and sin as God so made us, all we can do is ask forgiveness. Forgiveness that was mercifully accepted by the Crown Prince of Renatus-Marna, in a meeting with Crown Prince Constantine Horen and Grand Marshal Antonius Horen. We cannot brandish our blades against the faithful, nor can we those whom we believe actions are just and due. We relinquish our ties to the Confederation; we relinquish our ties to the Kingdom of Santegia-Haria and the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska,;and we do approve of the Northern Atlas Alliance’s military advance upon the Confederation. I do thus publish this document on behalf of His Serene Highness the Prince of Curon, Alfred I Cyril of House Devereux. We pray that God grants us entrance into a new era, and that this shall serve as the dawn of good relations between Curon and Renatus-Marna.

    Signed,

His Excellency the Chancellor of Curon

    Ser Sylvester of House Halcourt
