The Ashguard of the Imperium
Writ of Unity
______________________________________________
"For so long, our people have stood without centralized unity. Under many different banners, under many different leaders... No more. On this day, we stand united from the ashes of old warbands, orders and levies. On this day arises The Ashguard, with one purpose. The preservation of the Imperium."
Ser Hakon, "The Shipwright," Ruric. (14th of Sun's Smile, 1543).

Ranks and Chapter Infrastructure
______________________________________________
-Command Branch-
Commander of the Ashguard
Leads all chapters, and their guardsmen in times of war. The Commander is tasked with giving out orders to Chapter Captains, which are then given to the lower-ranking guardsmen. The Commander has direct authority given to him by the patriarchy of House Ruric-Greymane, as such he can make military-actions without the consent of the Lord overseeing him. The Commander is also in-charge of giving payments to Chapter Captains.
Chapter Captain
Leads a specific chapter within the guard, a Chapter Captain is in-charge of recruitment, housing, arming, and training of those in his chapter. A Chapter Captain is considered a very high rank, and can typically hand out promotions to his underlings without the consent of the Commander, so long as it does not surpass Battle-brother.
Knight
Must have been Knighted within the Imperium, the Knight is viewed as a step above the Veteran rank, and is given a higher regard as they've been recognized by the Emperor himself. Usually given the best armaments.
-Guard Branch-
Veteran
Having proven himself time and time again, a veteran has survived many battles or wars, and lived to tell the tale. They're experienced combatants, with a wide knowledge of the blade. Veterans are usually allowed to handle missions of lesser importance, and can ascend to the rank of Chapter Captain, if the position is needed.
Battle-Brother
A man with a steadfast dedication to the guard, the Battle-brother is a guardsman who's faith and dedication to the guard is unquestioned by any within his chapter. He's given a lot of leniency, and the best of the best armaments, a step up from the usual rabble that is given to the Initiates. Battle-brothers are always trying to prove themselves competent enough to become Veterans of their chapter.
Initiate
A fresh recruit to the guardsmen, the Initiate is given no trust what-so-ever, and typically looked down upon as inferior by their fellow guardsmen. Their faith and willingness to comply is always in question, and will continue to be so until they've been anointed Battle-brother by their Chapter Captain. They're typically given the lesser armaments available.
