yeah I was one of “those” mental mages who did the shitty investigation RP and truthseeking w the magic but I was also a dumb 14 y/o and I regret doing it

I think mental magic has a lot of potential to be a magic that encourages character development rather than something people just use for combat. I think it would be neat if people incorporated the magic into the story of their character, but not making it the only defining trait if that makes sense

Just have your character believe something went a certain way and RP their mind believing it was that way too. Our memory and brain’s ability to store info is so....vague and easily changed its plausible. /shrug 

The most Epic thing about mental magic was walking into a random city and having a protagonist waltz over to you out of the blue and demand to read your mind for no reason, then If you denied this absurd request It would be assumed that you did in fact have something to hide, and you would be harassed further until it escalated into either an arrest, or being kicked out of the city. I liked the concept of mental, one of the few particularly interesting voidal magics, but dear god if it wasn’t the most abusible metagame magic of its time. If it comes back it should preferably be merged with sensory, with the major metagame abilities outright removed.
