  5. How come people who always hate on staff are often the same people who never contribute to the server themselves?

@LaeonathanLotC I would say is akin to a MMO which is both a product and a service. The product being the map, plugins and lore, service side being updates to those prior three along with community and staff to maintain it. While you don't need to pay to play LotC, donations exist, and I feel counter that argument a bit, if you're willing to take upwards to $500 from players you better believe, I as one of those idiots, at least want somewhat I would consider borderline minimum effort and thought with regard to most aspects of the server, I think especially for me just keeping the community safe, as I feel there have been many missteps in that regard.

But either way, you also don't need to pay for something to be allowed to be upset, looking at PMC for LotC, it feels like it is advertised as something akin to an RP Sandbox, like you can become a mage, open a roadside tavern, become King, or just be a simple farmer, becoming a mage on LotC isn't exactly an easy feat, especially as a newer player, and good luck opening a roadside tavern this map. I can understand people being disappointed if they aren't able to get the experience provided, and likely just feel like they were misled. But either way, it does suck that players do lash out as being a staff member on LotC is unpaid, but I believe comes down to the fact the community almost seems conditioned to do such, as someone who was still somewhat new to LotC, seeing a massive forum post about an admin doing something they should have, being the only recourse this player felt was the only way to get the admin removed is something that factors in to my opinions on topics like these.

I think you meant to say 'is a good cure', for your comparison, though I used the food comparison as the server being good or bad is subjective, like food is. You can't really tell someone if a server is 'objectively' bad or good as it is all down to the experience people have on the server, I RPed on another server and the plugins were just a name plate editor and a chat plugin, nothing akin to what LotC has, lore was rather simple, no magic, and there was barely any staff, yet to this day it still remains one of the more enjoyable servers I've ever RPed on.

Staff being hated on by the players isn't exactly unique to LotC, some games that I can draw examples from are like RS3 or OSRS, Warframe, GTA:O and RDO. And it generally boils down to players simply not having fun anymore, and the player bases do attempt to voice their concerns or feedback but often times it seems like the devs of those games just drop the ball with the feedback they were provided and don't deliver on newer content, so players get bored and then frustrated because they genuinely want to enjoy the 'potential experience' those games could provide. Most of the time the big changes only comes when it because a public incident, Jim Sterling made a video on Warframe's Prime Vault system and how they didn't like it and thought it was scummy, then the team changed the system, when the community had been asking for it ages at that point.

Other example are 3rd party clients for OSRS nearly being canned by Jagex, the HD Plugin for OSRS nearly cancelled by Jagex, R* dropping the ball on content for both GTA:O and RDO, and the list could go on. I just think it is just silly to say you can't criticize something unless you have 'deep' understanding of the topic you want to criticize, just seems a lazy way to debate, not to mention, some good can come from feedback, just take a look at No Man's Sky. At the end of the day, I believe most of the staff do want to try and improve LotC, I don't think anyone wakes up thinking "I can't wait to make the players mald today." But sometimes it feels like it, though ultimately I do believe some feedback isn't as constructive as it could be, and LotC is in a rather peculiar position where certain changes would benefit one community and alienate the other, so I don't really envy what staff have to juggle.

At the end of the day, no biggie, and I have too much free time.

Just because one can not cook, does not mean they can not say food provided to them is dog shit. It really depends on the situation for people, me for example, I have seen some genuinely terrible things happen to people over this server and don't really have any desire to try to contribute to it aside from just vibing with my friends.

One could argue I could join staff to attempt to change it, but there are posts dating back to 2015 about issues people have had trying to help improve the server, so ultimately I've just decided I'd focus my efforts on other things (not to mention some interactions I've had with higher ups was just telling).

LotC is strange, some people have an absolute blast on the server, others I've seen been dragged through dirt, which is just kinda sad to see over a Minecraft RP server. Really, you just have to be lucky with the hand you get dealt when you play on the server.
