Alchemy Q&a

Alchemy is a diverse and very complicated subject, yet can be fun and add much to RP if used correctly. Many people may not know where to start or be confused on topics. As such I've decided to create this Q&A about Alchemy. You may post questions about anything related to Alchemy ranging from Regents, Potions, to things you wonder if they might be possible! I shall be posting comments I see a lot up here in a FAQ. And now, Ask away!

I'd ask if only those that either are Alchemists or know that their answers are entirely correct to answer questions. But anyone may ask!

FAQ:

And here is the Alchemist's Almanac compiled by SupermacyOps recently. If anything seems wrong or has been changed, feel free to point it out and it shall be fixed!

Tales of a Travelling Alchemist

http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/62560-finished-alchemy-lore/

The original alchemy lore.

Potions detailed in here:

  • Mending

  • Strength

  • Stoneskin

  • Celerity

  • Acuity

  • Flame Oil

  • Frost Oil

  • Fortitude Oil

  • Alchemist's Fire (Alchemist's Fire is expanded upon in another thread)

  • Wizard's Wisdom

Alchemist's Fire

http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/89913-alchemists-fire/

An expansion on Alchemist's Fire, its preparation and the risks of its use.

Summary of the rolling rules of Alch fire (detailed in the thread)

  • 30% chance of exploding while still on your person if you are physically jolted. This includes throwing it overarm, falling over or running into something while carrying it, shaking it or being hit by an RP attack while carrying it. Roll once for each bottle you are carrying it. (/roll 100, 30 or less means explosion.)

  • 15% chance of exploding while still on one's person if thrown underarm.

  • If the alchemist's fire explodes while still on your person you will be covered by it.

The Potion of Regeneration

http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/88861-lore-the-potion-of-regeneration/

Documentation on a potion for regrowing lost limbs.

Homonculi

http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/87863-homunculus-lore/

Details of the homonculi introducted in Tales of a Travelling Alchemist.

Waterbreathing Potion

http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/93564-waterbreathing-potion/

A new potion allowing alchemists to breathe water!

Potion of Strength

http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/93746-%E2%9C%93-potion-of-strength-and-stoneskin-change-proposal/

An expansion on the potion of strength, those who use this potion experience fatigue for one elven day after consumption.

Potion of Stoneskin

http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/93746-%E2%9C%93-potion-of-strength-and-stoneskin-change-proposal/

An expansion on the potion of stoneskin and the risks of use. A summary:

  • 25% chance of death on consumption (/roll 100, 26 or more and the potion works)

  • Swords and arrows are not reflected but rather cause parts of one's body to chip off like stone. Once the potion wears off the user is left with large parts of flesh missing which chipped off.

Potion of Healing

http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/93799-%E2%9C%93-potion-of-mending-change-proposal/

An expansion on the potion of healing and the risks of use. A summary:

  • Healing works quickly however any and all tissue healed becomes scar tissue. This means that a healed leg using an alchemists potion of healing is weaker than formerly. If the whole muscle is damaged the whole muscle will become scar tissue, leaving it useless.

Flame Oil

http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/93800-flame-oil-change-proposal/

An expansion on the potion of Flame Oil and the risks of use. A summary:

  • Flame oil burns skin.

  • Flame oil does not render things flame resistent. They will still burn, just not as easily.

Maybe slightly off topic...but... with the new Alchemy system/plugin, are all of the above potions/brews possible to be made and obtained using the new Brewing Stand thing?

Not yet. And  not all potions will be able to be crafted in a Brewing Stand. Over time we'll hopefully add more. Though, at the first release of the plugin a good amount of combat potions (As well as a few others) will be added for you to discover. But it does not entirely replace RP alchemy in anyway other then letting Alchemists use combat potions in PvP.

And no, It wasn't off topic :3

EDIT: And other potions such as Night Vision will be added as well! Do not worry!

Somewhat... Almost all will be, but in a weak basis. So not as powerful as in the lore.

I'm all for giving server alchemists every potion and tool that we can make through Minecraft mechanics (so potions, but no like... pet chimera). We're kinda split, though, because the alchemists want only weak/moderate potions to go through so... eh. For the most part, you'll have your strength, healing, etc. But don't expect to see alchemist's fire, or... regeneration potions... or greater potions of any type... ramble ramble ramble.

So far, we know certain reagents can be obtained through the tree drops plugin, but will there be other unique reagents available from other tasks, such as mining or farming?

When it comes to the MC side of Alchemy, with the upcoming plugin many of the regents will be obtained from all over Anthos and in many ways. To give a basic example, lets say a lily pad was used for [sECRET], a moderate symbol for [Earth, Fire, Water or Air], one would have to search for a Lily pad to use in their potion. So yes, there will be regents gathered in multiple tasks such as mining or farming.

Fish will surely be used in a recipe or two. Metals (gold/iron/diamond) will probably have a few uses as well. We're also considering adding some drops to mobs that could be used in potions but for what, we're not entirely sure.

Can we get None traditional alchemy recipes added and used as well, I'd really love to make some spices and salts for cooking special recipes, and similar to how brewing is done using similar equipment.

Any ideas are always welcome, but remember a brewing stand is used.
