Royal Armed Forces

 

Organized, armed, and ready for action, the Herendulian Armed Forces functions as the single military entity in the Kingdom of Herendul. Their directive is the defense of the kingdom, the defense of the Imperium of men, and to destroy Setherien and his minions. The Armed Forces consists of the army and the navy which are led by the united High Command.


High Command



The High Command is the military council that leads the Armed Forces. The King of Herendul serves as commander in chief, presiding over all major decisions and offering input at his whim. The office of Lord Marshal is tasked with managing the military itself and keeping it combat-ready. Finally, the office of Lord Admiral is in charge of the Royal Navy. The duties of the Admiral include defending friendly waters, keeping the Navy ready at a moments' notice, and keeping afloat a sizable navy.

Royal Army

 

The Royal Army serves as the Armed Forces' land division. Royal Armsmen are trained to handle a variety of situations including how to perform successful arrests, how to handle minions of the Black Scourge, and survival training. The Army consists of the bulk of the Armed Forces and is organized relatively unitary, save for the occasional garrison. Ranks are as follows:

 

Knight Captain

Addressed as 'Ser'.

To be knighted in Herendul is the greatest honor. It requires either dedication, heroism, or nobility. Knight Captain is not a ceremonial role. They are not allowed civilian jobs, always remaining watchful of the members of House Winter and the Kingdom. They serve as officers and elite guard in war-time and retainers in peace to the nobility. They have the privilege of wearing the gold on their uniforms.

 

Master at Arms

Addressed as 'sir'.

The Master at Arms is available, trustworthy, and battle hardened. They are appointed to the head of a garrison and tasked with keeping their men supplied and trained. Usually, Master at Arms are at the battlefront, keeping things managed while their superiors prepare the actual battle strategies.

 

Armsman

The Armsmen are the bulk of the Armed Forces. Once they have finished training as an Initiate and are proved competent, they are officially enlisted in the Armed Forces and take oaths to King and country. Following this, they are outfitted with their custom-fitted iron plate armor and supplied with food as they require. Outside of war-time, many occupy civilian jobs or serve as engineers or builders in Herendul's reconstruction projects.

 

Initiate

The Initiate is the entry rank in the Royal Army. Initiation usually lasts from six months to one year and usually involves constant training in the various fields Royal Armsmen are required to be knowledgeable in to officially enlist and take their oaths.

 

 

Royal Navy

 

The Royal Navy is the assortment of ships and their crews in service to the Kingdom of Herendul. They can be pirates, privateers, smugglers, what have you, but when the bird summoning the fleet arrives, they throw on the tabard and they sail for Wallsport full mast. These sailors are given their own training regimen by the Lord Admiral, primarily concerning the operation of siege engines and boarding-party combat. The ranks are as follows:

 

Lord Admiral of the Fleet

Addressed as 'Admiral', 'my Lord', or 'your Lordship'.

A true sea dog, the Lord Admiral is chosen from the most talented of the Navy's captains by the King himself. The Lord Admiral has his own ship to command, but occasionally leaves this behind to oversee the fleet as a whole. They make sure each crew is savvy, sober, armed, and combat ready for when the bird arrives.

 

Captain at Sea

Addressed as 'Captain', 'boss', or 'sir'.

Captains are selected by the King to man newly constructed or captured vessels; they may also be admitted if a free captain approaches the Royal Navy and swears an oath of allegiance to the King and country. A Captain at Sea runs his own crew and his own ship but takes direct orders from the High Command when summoned.

 

Sailor

Addressed as 'seadog', 'filth', or 'ya muppet'

Your average crewmen aboard a Royal Navy ship, sailors come from all walks of life. They're free to join any ship under any Captain they please but if you start trouble on the high seas, you'll be thrown overboard or marooned.

 

 

Decorations

 

 

The Royal Armed Forces offer decorations that detail honor, courage, valor, and sacrifice in the pursuit of service. They are granted to those who meet each individual ribbon or medal's special requirement and are tokens of great magnitude.

 

Winter's Cross

Awarded for remarkable bravery or devotion to the kingdom in the presence of the enemy.

A silver lorraine-style cross attached to partner white-and-blue style ribbon. Engraved in the center is the Winter snowflake, clutched in the talons of a drake. A gold bar connects ribbon and medal upon which is enscribed VALOR
