A Bunch Of Languages In One Place!

Sup breh? I'm making this crappy thread because I want to help you understand what people are trying to say to you!  :rich:

Of course, you CAN just parade through all of the forums and subforums, looking for each accent individually, OR you can get the jist of it right here!

Obviously, we're NOT going to look at the dialects of typical elves and humans of Abresi and Malinor, because they typically speak how one would expect.

SO INSTEAD, we're going to look at the more, interesting dialects.

TAKE NOTE that this guide is just for very new players who are looking to first rp as a typical human/elf.

So now, we're going to START THINGS OFF here, and get the jist of how Dwarves and Adunians typically speak!

  • First, take a look at Celtic/Gaelic cultures, and you have a pretty good idea of how an Adunian speaks.
  • For a Dwarf, it's pretty much the same thing.
  • Also, they both have somewhat of a redneck accent to them.

So, look'ere and yer gunna see 'ow most o'em loike ta talk.

I've typically encountered Dwarves and Adunians who hate the letter H for some reason. How does one get rid of an H? Why, with apostrophes, of course! 'Ere's an example:

"Hey there my friend, how are you on this fine day?"

"Oi 'ere mah friend, 'ow'er ye on t'is foine day?"

To be honest, understanding these people should come to you quite naturally.

BUT NOW WE'RE GOING TO LOOK AT ORCS:

Blah is their language, and it isn't all that hard. Basically, you're going to need to sound out what an Orc is typing to understand them. However, they've got a few unique words, and here they are:

  • Lat = You
  • Twiggeh = Elf
  • Stowt = Dwarf
  • Shara = Human
  • Snaak = Halfling
  • Kitteh = Kharajyr
  • Blarg = House/Home
  • Me/I/My = Mi
  • Talk/Speak/Language = Blah

Also, Orcs like to replace any S sounding word with the letter Z, and any
C with a K. Example:

"Elf, come on over to my house some time."

"Twiggeh, kome en ovah tu Mi blarg zum tym."

So now, you should have a basic understanding of Blah. (For it isn't really that bad.)

Oh god, here we are, the Kharajyr language. It's pretty hard to get a hold of at first, so feel free to look this over alot.

First, you're gonna want to know that the Kha' love replacing any A sound with AW. Also, they like changing OO to UU, much like Orcs do, and they like replacing II/I with EE. They also love using apostrophes, some even more so than Dwarves. Ex:

"Hi, how are you? I'm doing good, thanks! You're looking good yourself! You're welcome!"

Take into consideration that Kharajyr speak in the 3rd person, and for the purpose of this, we're going to say that the Kha's name is Zaddha.

"Sa'vi, haw awr yuu'sa? Zaddha ee'sa d'wuang guud, mul'ta! Yuu'awr luukeeng guud yawrseelf! Yuu'awr weelcawm!"

Anywho, those are just some of the basics of a few languages. I'z hope it helps you understand other people!

Orcs usually (i find) use "tik" for anything to do with time, just so you know!

Good guide otherwise :)

With Kha' I normally tend to say the sentence out loud and draw out how it sounds. Hopefully this helps a bit.

To understand Raevir you simply have to lower your IQ by close to 70 points (Depending on your IQ to start with I guess)

A great guide, especially for newer players that are very confused. Personally for me the Kharajyr language is difficult, but your simple guidelines helped me understand it.
