The Dwarven Alchemy Guild

The tale of the Dwarven Alchemy Guild is not a pretty one. Tis a tale forged with the fires of war and with the steel of swords. Its reagents are blood and blade, and its phial is victory.

During the third Orcish war, the Dwarves were outnumbered and outgunned by the orcish War Uzg. The orcish tyranny had lasted long enough. The Legion decided to attack where it would hurt most; a key foothold controlling the pass to the south that belonged to the orcs. The problem was that they would be attacking a cliff face, and they would be rendered vulnerable to arrow fire and other missile warfare.

It was here that renowned alchemist Kardel Irongut made his move. He stepped forth, proposing a radical strategy involving what was then considered an Irongut exclusive art: alchemy. He introduced the Legion to his signature alchemical fire and to potions of stoneskin, oils of fortitude, and potions of mending. For the most part the dwarves were amazed by all the different spells the alchemist had in his arsenal, but they were sceptical as well.

Kardel Irongut brewed many potions in his hold at blacklight, spending days locked within the fort perfecting his masterpieces. The day before the battle, the legion was then approached. Elite legion saboteurs were given potions of celerity and alchemist’s fire, which allowed them to set the fort of fire at midnight when all was dark, but their senses were as intact as in full daylight. The dwarven vanguard was all given potions of strength and stoneskin to hold back the charging orcs. The battle was a major success, and thus the Alchemy Guild of Urguan was officially recognized.

Now, the alchemy guild’s attentions have moved away from war and more towards promoting alchemy for the dwarven population, and making it possible for the complex art to be learned by the general public. New innovations and potions are being made daily at their headquarters and new members are anticipated for eagerly.

Novitiate:

BzNLzae.png

The title belonging to anyone who wishes to enroll in the guild with no previous knowledge of alchemy. The Novitiate alchemist’s daily routine consists of getting up and attending countless daily lectures, going out on field projects in groups and examining nature to better understand the elements, and writing research papers on what they have observed. The dullest part of becoming an alchemist, the Novitiate Stage is a stage when one rarely gets to practice alchemy at all. At the end of his or her training, the Novitiate undergoes an exam to move on to the next rank.

Aspirant Alchemist:

m09Fh4i.png

The aspirant alchemist is a novitiate who has passed his exams and has been qualified to further study the arts of alchemy. Mockingly referred to as the suicide stage, the aspirant alchemist starts practicing alchemy. They spend their whole days concocting potions at their cauldrons while being supervised by mentors. Usually, an aspirant alchemist will fail at potion making, and might get a bruise or two, but no-one has died from this stage (not yet, at least). The aspirant alchemist must skillfully brew 5 moderate difficulty potions successfully to be promoted to the next rank.

Adept Alchemist:

89XhCVl.png

These are the alchemists that make up the majority of the alchemist occupation. Adept alchemists are the alchemists that can brew lesser potions with ease, and moderate potions with some difficulty. These alchemists begin to attempt Greater potions in their career, and usually fail. They spend their days often out of the guildhouse, making a living and returning only when called back. These alchemists can truly be considered alchemists or apothecaries, but are not worthy of further praise. To advance to the next level, the Adept must prove himself worthy by brewing at least 10 greater potions for the guild, and specialising in a guild-approved alchemical subtype.

Mentor:

rHPOvwV.png

After proving himself worthy of the title, the adept alchemist may be promoted to the rank of Mentor. The title of Mentor is a title that is well earned, and deserved great respect from the lower ranks, Mentors can brew lesser potions as if they were tea, and are proficient in the art of brewing moderate potions. These alchemists now chose to meddle with Greater Potions far more often and have some difficulty brewing them. This alchemist may choose to become  a guild teacher, and must have proficiency in all of the main alchemical subtypes. To be promoted to one of the most honorable ranks in the guild, this alchemist must devise his own potion and must be extremely proficient with Greater Potions. He must also chose and specialize in one of the special alchemical subtypes and must have no difficulty brewing potions or oils whatsoever.

Master Alchemist:

hZj4e7t.png

It truly takes skill to reach the title of Master Alchemist. One does not simply study hard for this position, one must dedicate years and years of his life to studying alchemy to reach such a prestigious rank. This alchemist is revered amongst the guild members and is eligible to run for the Council of Alchemists. This alchemist must be proficient in all subtypes of the guild, the main ones and the special. This alchemist can brew Greater Potions easily and can realize almost any potion he desires because he knows the elements and their symbols thoroughly. This is the last stage in alchemical progression, unless the Master Alchemist is gifted beyond belief, and is elected by the guild members to receive the next title. These alchemists begin to meddle with chimera and homunculi.

Elder Alchemist

QoZHHHu.png

It takes most alchemists three quarters of their lives to reach this standing. Most humans die before they can grasp the glory that is being an Elder Alchemist, and recieving your own title. The Elder Alchemists are revered Anthos wide as sorcerers and apothecaries of the highest standing, and receive titles that reflect these skills. These alchemists are not satisfied simply by alchemy, but strive to achieve alchemical myths and legends, and meddle in magic to further improve their knowledge of equivalent exchange. This alchemist usually spends their lifetime pursuing the Master Work, which is the Philosopher’s Stone, Tawkin, The Elixir of Life, and Panacea.

The Council of Alchemists is made up of 3 Arch-Alchemists and of Ogradhad’s Alchemist. This is the council that makes decisions about the guild and deals with the economical and public matters of the guild, as well as makes sure that everything is in check:

Arch-Alchemists:

v16Thu6.png

The Arch-Alchemists are Master or Elder Alchemists that have taken more interest into contributing their knowledge for the guild instead of pursuing their alchemical dreams. They are the headmasters of the guild and make sure everything is in check. These alchemists can be of any race, unlike the Ogradhad’s alchemist, and deal more in guild-related matters than political related masters.

Ogradhad’s Alchemist:

vP6gmEQ.png

Ogradhad’s Alchemist is the guildmaster. He is a strictly dwarven member of the guild that has reached the rank of Elder and has good relations with the dwarves. Being Ogradhad’s Alchemist means being King’s Council as well, and is a responsibility that is not to be taken lightly. Ogradhad’s Alchemist deals with the political and economical issues of the guild, unlike the Arch-Alchemists.

Notices:

The Dwarven Alchemy Guild, despite being a Kingdom of Urguan supported guild is open to all races. All members of the guild who are none dwarven must subject to the dwarven laws while part of the guild and must not betray the dwarven population via guild means.

As an alchemist of the guild, you have all the rights that the Kingdom of Urguan permits. As an alchemist of the guild, you are subjected to the dwarven form of punishment for any crimes done against the dwarven society, BUT you may fight for your own race if it comes to that yet you MAY NOT use guild means to do so. Abusing guild privileges will lead to anything as harmless as a suspension depending on the severity of the abuse, or as harsh as public removal from rank and execution by chemicals.

((Elves can join. All you have to do is abide by the laws of urguan while in the guild and not betray it. Only difference is that you can't hold the position of Ogradhad's Alchemist, which is pretty much the broker inbetween kingdom and guild.))

Reason for joining (Make this a paragraph): I have gained a interest in alchemy, rather recently. I have tried studying it on my own to little success, if any. What really interests me is the mystery and purpose in alchemy, the hidden secrets in reveals about nature and its unknown uses. I have dabbled in alchemical studies, trying my hand at potion creations, but created not but boiled water, if that sadly. So my reason for joining is purely academic and out of my pure interest.

Bardel steps into the Karirdmarr, he is barely recognisable. His robes are torn and broken, his beard and hair matted and dark. Attop his head is a dark grey hat which darkens his vivid yellow eyes. Looking about the lobby he doesn't say a word. There is silence, only the cold southern winds can be heard. He takes two steps before noticing a figure by the fire place stir. An older dwarf by age but these two actually now have an incredably similar complexion. Bardel stops dead. Staring across the room at the other Dwarf as it turns around. Then the two meet eyes and the cold wind stops... There is an even longer silence before Bardel utters a word

"Father? Oime... Err back"

The other Dwarf remains silent for a moment and Bardel opens his mouth to say something but then closes it again as the old dwarf stirs again. This time to speak....

Kardel buttons his shirt, as he mutters something harshly in some foreign tongue to someone else in the room. Suddenly, an elven maid rises from the sofa, covering herself with but a pelt, wearing her birthday suit and quickly scampers away. Kardel inspects the woman as she leaves the room, and turns his attention to Bardel, speaking in an affectionate tone.

"Son. . ." Kardel scans Bardel with his eyes, and rises. He wears some loose black trousers and a striped white and grey button up shirt with ornate sleeves. He adjusts his seating position, and offers Bardel a seat. "Ah' did nae expect ye'd come back su earleh."

Bardel looks bewildered, yet he probably expected something like this. He was talking to Kardel after all, this dwarf was known for his. . .unique. . .character. "Am ah suppoased tae call 'er mudder nou?"

Kardel laughs "Nae. . .nae. 'ow ya been? Ah've re-enstated da olchemeh guild, ah restructered eht. Since ye cayme back, cunsider yeself un Arch-Alchemist. . .Az'Gauldian. W'ere ye been? Wut 'ave yer discuvered? Tell meh, eht's been years!"

Bardel takes a seat and helps himself to a food always present in the Karrirdmarr; chocolate scones, Kardel's favorite. He then proceeds to explain his ventures to the old dwarf.

Kardel looks the application over, stroking one of the two forks in his beard thoughtfully. Kardel scratches his cheek, and rubs his chin, before finally tossing the application away. . .

. . .into the Accepted pile.

Kardel then sends out a letter

"Welcome kinsman! I am overjoyed that you have decided to return to our clan, and warmly welcome you into the guild! If you could simply send me a letter confirming what type of alchemical knowledge you have so I can place you in an according rank, that would be most helpful! We will arrange a meeting soon! Warmest welcomes!
