UltraRed 78 Share Posted February 11, 2014 This looks really awesome. I think the jump spells (spike, geyser, stump) are going to have a lot of use circumventing castle walls. Can a mage self-target with one of those spells, to circumvent a barrier/instantly climb a tree/other awesome things?
Smithers 388 Share Posted February 11, 2014 I have a question, for mages that are already tier 5 and such, do we have to still learn from the start? If so isn't that defeating the purpose, and does this mean every person and their mother will have access to magic or can we get the MA back? Tiers are no longer a thing. From what it sounds like, everybody will have access to all spells. However, this is balanced as the more spells you master the less HP you have. The spells themselves are also balanced. No. You can't have the MA back.

The spells themselves are also balanced. No no no. You will have access to 1 or 2 spells at the start I think. And those will use all of your mana and likely backfire at the start. Via practice you will actually be able to learn more and make your current ones work.
Telanir 6975 Author Share Posted February 11, 2014 I have a question, for mages that are already tier 5 and such, do we have to still learn from the start? If so isn't that defeating the purpose, and does this mean every person and their mother will have access to magic or can we get the MA back? Uh Teers, let me explain. Yes, everyone, their mother, dog, housewife, cat, desktop monitor, grandmother, dead distant relative and children have access to the magic plugin. Everyone does. And everyone has equal opportunity. And as such, it is balanced adequately. The fact that everyone does-- is a good thing. People who learned magic before may receive compensation, this would be based on Magic Applications from way back however.
Vulkin Frostbeard 58 Share Posted February 11, 2014 I think with this Telanir has become my favorite staff member and has reached God Hood. I bow too you God of Magic and Perfection. now I just need to build myself a computer that can handle pvp and magic before 4.0 is out. As is I can only play wow, runescape on the lowest possible detail to ever be made. Hell I cant even pvp or walk around the server with my current computer -.- *looks over at the xbox one and two xbox 360 deciding whether to sell for cash to build a nice gaming computer*
Trips 344 Share Posted February 11, 2014 Not everything can be represented. That's just the way it is. Think of illusion. Pfft.. you can represent illusion with player decoys, invisibility, blindness, fake heart loss, rains of arrows that don't actualyl hurt you and the like. I think the magic plugin looks pretty neat, actually amazing. The only thing that I wonder how it will work is warding and arcane shielding. Perhaps it will be portrayed by a wall of coloured glass pane or something like that? How about thanic? Can we have an ore that makes people not able to use magic? Hunter (sckolar) 50 Share Posted February 11, 2014 So cool!! I have not seen a plugin like this on LOTC in a long time, that and the new crafting plugin! This will be a fun to experiment with. Thanks Telanir!
Giga 357 Share Posted February 11, 2014 I love it a lot! #DruidMagic4Ever. Perhaps the spell that grows trees, (Breathe Life) could also be used as a bonemeal spell in general? I feel as though it would be nice for us to be able to bonemeal things such as Tall Grass, and/or melons/carrots/potatoes etc. The plugin is brilliant all the same! Great bit of coding, well done old chap!

Stag 3231 Share Posted February 11, 2014 --- People who learned magic before may receive compensation, this would be based on Magic Applications from way back however. I would even argue against giving "compensation" to those players as well. With this plugin, no matter how much work we can put into it, we will likely never represent all of the subtypes that we had in the old system. Instead of compensating the lucky players who's subtypes are getting representation it would likely work better to start everyone off on the same playing field. domainoft 191 Share Posted February 11, 2014 ^Agreed, let everyone start from fresh. Obviously magic in the new world works a bit differently than we were used too. Go out there, learn it and explain it through all the RP you can muster. Those who have worked hard for their magic in the past, and love doing it will do so again. I tend to view magic the same way I do items. If we should not morn the loss of items and goods, why should we morn the loss of magic and skills? Through the process of finding and learning the new magic in RP, you will come to enjoy and appreciate it better.
Stag 3231 Share Posted February 11, 2014 To go off Domainoft -> I feel that we are working towards this sense of play-ability and giving players the chance to explore/advance and gain skill in certain areas of MC via plugins. If we were to just give away the advanced things to a few players it takes the fun, the adventure and mystery out of the experience. In terms of mechanical skill at the start of 4.0 everyone should be on an equal playing field. We switch places to get a fresh start so it would make sense to have everyone make a fresh start, at least mechanically.

tnoy23 202 Share Posted February 12, 2014 Will we still be able to use out magic RPly if we haven't learned it in the plugin / it isn't represented in it and we had it at a previous date? As in, will we still be able to use magic we had pre-plugin in an RP battle, just not PvP?
