Vorstag's Election Speech

[JVQ 1719]

*A huddle of Dwarfs appear in front of Vorstag, he ushers more closer, bringing more populous to his attention. He clears his throat and coughs signalling for the crowds silence*

 

“My fellow Dwarfs, Brothers, sons, today marks another king’s reign, for we have seen undoubtedly one of the greatest Lords our Grand Kingdom has ever had rise and fall, but it also signals the start of an age, a new king shall be crowned and a new rule will commence. So I stand before you today not as a politician, but as your friend, many seasons have passed since I initially came down from the mountains to see my father, many a King have passed also, so I ask you friends, I ask you to bid me your trust in times of doubt, I ask for your loyalty in times of war and I ask for you companionship always. Before such is required, I must ask you of your vote, now I am not so arrogant that I would not justify my request for your vote, so let me begin.”

 

*The crowd unsettle, some leaving to continue on their daily errands, and some join the Dwarven huddle*

 

“Some may be surprised that I have decided to embark on my first election, some may feel sceptical, the resignation of Wulfgar left a bleeding wound in our Grand nation, and to live in his reign was an honor only this Generation will experience. With the installation of Hogarth many thought that the kingdom would enter an era of prosperity and peace, but his reign was short lived. I must confess that I nor the other candidates will fill the shoes Wulfgar and Hogarth left behind, but I will try the bloody best I can and know, I know full well that I can lead us through times of hardship, heal us in times of mourning and hurt those who try to harm us. We must look to the future, to reach the full potential that this Nation can achieve, I know every Dwarf here can be better, no Dwarf is perfect, but together we are something great, we are a force to be reckoned with, through unity, friendship and compassion. I plan to with the Lords help build a  fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity. I aim to create a Nation where we all share the same basic rights, rejecting discrimination, racism and greed. Not only in our Kingdom, but it is our duty to help all of Anthos to strive for these ideals, nobody regardless of the religion or race should be treated differently, so we must all as a population work alongside each other to destroy poverty, corruption, ignorance and evil in our world.   

 

In order to improve the Kingdom: We will excel the efficiency of Guilds by paying close attention to expenditure and the leadership of each individual Guild leader, Lords will be tasked in to overseeing and guiding guilds more than before, writing monthly reports so we can track progress and production. I plan to dissolve the workforce in to the Legion, maximising the usage of conscripted soldiers in peacetime. The Merchant’s guild should be removed, the Grand Merchant holding the title as a specialised position rather than a guild leader, he can take on apprentices who could eventually be chosen as successor, of course at the current Grand Merchant’s disposal. The clergy should be seen as a religion and solely a religion, the priests should be chosen by the prophet through their devotion, faith and merit, the High Prophet  would get a seat on the Lord’s Council as an advisor, he will help the lords improve their decisions whilst appeasing the Brathmordakin. However, the High Prophet will not have voting prestige, he is there solely to advise.

 

The engineering guild, will work in coalition with the Legion, producing siege and war weaponry for the Grand Marshal, I have not seen much efficiency from the engineering guild and such needs to change, we need to direct them rather than sit and wait for them to be productive.

 

I have faith in Kwint, and I believe if working in coalition with him, we can create a sustainable economy which hopefully can create the wealth making processes in which all Dwarf’s skills are exploited and treasured, with all product from work being distributed in accordance to effort. All treaties plan to be upheld to preserve our great nation, as long as the treaty counterpart does not violate terms. It is apparent to me treaties were abused and overlooked yet our King let it go untouched, we can’t allow ourselves to be walked over, for the safety of our children and their children and the reputation our Kingdom stands on.”

 

*The dwarves begin to cheer but Vorstag waves the noise down asking them to quieten fo he has not finished*

 

“I ask your vote so that I can uphold the glory of our Grand Kingdom, so I can lead our great nation in to our full potential, vote for me, Vorstag Grandaxe son of Wulfgar, friends, brothers, sons.

"Ah t'ank ya fer teh kind words, Vorstag. Wut ya are proposin' fer teh Merchant's Guild however will make vereh little difference. It will simply change mah position and... remove teh Merchant's Guild all toget'er an' call it somethin' else? Ah do not quite understand why. Are ya proposin' turnin' it into some sort of... well teh beh honest Ah do not know wut it would beh. Could ya enlighten meh?"

"From what ah 'ave 'eard an' seen, yeh are teh onleh merchant actively workin' fer teh Kingdom, so why duh weh class the Merchants guild as a guild? Yeh are a one man armeh an' yeh are doin' a great job, so I am proposin' promoting yeh teh a specialised rank, teh Grand Merchant would have more leeway and powah in a position higher up t'an guild leader."
