Remove Ban Reports And Appeals

I like this idea. Only serious offenses and repeat offenders really ought to have to appeal in my mind, and removing the drama cesspool that is the ban forum tabs could potentially cut down on some poor behavior and drama.

Drama is caused by every aspect of the server. The problem isn't ban reports it's people being a$$holes to each other. Even people in this thread are guilty of such a thing. Just treat people better and you won't get drama. It's a game.

It's a game.

This might be so but the community feels real as hell to me.

I'm going to disagree with number one and partially disagree with number two.

I'm disagreeing with number one, simply because the ban appeals show the amount of time and effort put in for a want to play on the server again.

I'll use an example.

If I was tempbanned for a few days, lets say 3 days, I would go, "Oh, well then I'll just wait and I'll get back on when I'm unbanned."

If I was banned and needed an appeal, it would force me to:

1)Take the time to write an appeal. This weeds out the really easy people who do not care for the server at all. If I decide that even attempting an appeal isn't worth it, then I probably would not be a good player to get back onto the server without an appeal if I was tempbanned.

2)The nature of my appeal shows my state of mind. I've seen plenty of ban appeals which try to make the person banned look like a victim. If you were banned and you are trying to make yourself victimized, then you again are probably not the type of person we want on the server

3)It forces me to think about my ban and, whether I actually feel remorse or not, to consider what I did and how I could avoid being banned again.

I will partially agree with the second point.

I don't think ban reports should be hidden due to the fact of someone else at the situation perhaps having screenshots of what happened, or maybe a withholding of information that would have come out via public ban reports. I do favour the "No posting on other people's ban reports" rule however.

On the other hand, I do believe that appeals should be reserved only for the GM and the banned player. This could reduce a bit of the drama as well as the player that is getting unbanned would likely only tell their friends on the server, and not those who got them banned.

  1. Hide the ban report and appeal threads from players. Both ban reports and appeals are necessary, to some extent. However, there's no reason that we need to see them, unless we're directly involved. As such, tailor the subforums so that players can create topics and see the sticky threads, but only the staff can view the topics created by players. The GM responding to a ban report could simply PM those involved to gather each side of the story.

Hopefully, this would ensure that players could still effectively report misdoings while reducing the drama. It would also allow players to report things anonymously, as to avoid negative backlash from other players.

Please no. I nearly got banned off a server that did this because a bunch of ******* kept baiting me and then screenshotting my angry responses. They messaged a GM and I heard nothing about the ban report other than one of them going, "You're getting so banned!11". A day or two later I wasn't banned and I asked a GM and he said the report was denied and that it was laughable or something. But the point is, I heard absolutely nothing of this and so I couldn't defend myself. I can nearly guarantee that same thing would happen here too.

But without ban reports, there's nothing interesting to read.

for once i find myself agreeing with Cyndikate. i'll also miss the adrenaline rush when everyones in ts and the words "hey snazzy someones posted a ban report on you" are said
