I begin to wonder how new players will cope with those locked gates.

It helps us keep unwanted RP out. Simple as that.

They do let actual High Elves in, you know.

Unwanted RP such as what?

Raiders. Villains. "Impures."

I see the Elves doing well presently. They've even done well enough to break that stereotype they were stuck with, broke out of their comfort zone, and engage actively in battle against Urguan and their allies. That is pleasant to the eye.

I mean the other settlements such as wood elves and dark elf settlements, they usually do not lock themselves away from the rest of the world.

They lock their gates to control who enters their settlement. It is natural and done elsewhere in the world as well.

Simply put most people don't enjoy constantly dealing with characters that want to cause trouble. Having the gates locked means RP can be focused elsewhere and not the assassin conjurer that comes four times a day.

As the typical gatesman of Lin'ame, the gates provide a reinforcement of the role-play we are trying to cultivate in this new era of Elven conduct.

Outsiders have zero entitlement to enter. You are an outsider, you are considered a threat at all times. Throw insults all you like at the guards, it will yield you very little in your pursuit to enter.

If you dress up like a necromancer, or an assassin, you will not be allowed entry. An excuse of it being comfy is not acceptable, necromancers and assassins likely wear it for the same reason.

If you are armored, you will not be allowed entry. The Restrained are meant to be the sole enforcers of Lin'ame, variables such as an armored stranger are not acceptable risks, when it comes to the peace of the town.

If you say you are going to meet a friend, you will be expected to have sent a message regarding you arrival, so that your 'friend' may verify your claim.

We are not Malinor, we are not tolerant. We take care of our own and have had lots of RP to back up our distaste for outsiders - elf or not.

If you happen to be allowed inside, and you threaten the peace of Lin'ame to a severe degree. Guess what, you are banished.

Lin'ame is a town meant to reinforce practical and peaceful RP, not illogical tolerance of people's deliberate choice in magic subtypes, or career choices, or choices in general. Get normal, or get out, simply put.

"But there's not a guard all the time to let people in, wardog."

Oh well, the system is in place, the only thing lacking is numbers in which to execute the system 24/7. We're an RP town with various timezones scattered throughout our residents, it's not possible to be on at all times to open and close the gate for potential residents.

It won't be changing because of that, prove you're sane enough to become a resident, then join the Restrained, problem solved.

I think in general that's an awful mentality to have. Elitist. Not RP elitism, which is cool and hip, but OOC elitism where suddenly you are somehow the deciderer on what is good RP and what is nto.

In an RP sense, it's fine. But 'Unwanted RP' is just dumb.

Conclave was great (and **** at the same time) because they allowed all RP

From a noob who has no idea what he's doing and decided to throw on a shitty cloaked assassin skin's perspective, these gates look like they menace with spikes.

Yeah, I'm liking the current elf RP OOCly. They've had their **** together since Conclave, and in spades.

Of course, much to Wardog's ire, I've ICly I've been giving them trouble, but the exclusionist policy from all elven races is a much needed shift. It runs the risk of making the city inactive, but if it gets pulled off with style it'll be worth it. I can't wait to see how it develops in the next map.

Exclusionary principles gives making an elf that abides by lore appearance and personality wise a sense of exclusivity and encourages people to make elves of their own. So far it's helped us a lot.

You mean peaceful RP for high elves only?
