The Acius Bloodline

The members of the modern Acius family still bear most of the earmarks of the old blood, though there are some differences. The dominating traits are:

 

Very Tan Skin

 

o A darker shade than that of most Wood Elves.

o Passed down by both male and female parents.

 

Dark Hair

 

o Ranging from brown to black.

 

 

o Red hair is currently prevalent in the children of Solon and Merache, though it is not an Acius trait.

 

 

Lively, Rather Energetic Demeanor

 

o Quick to anger and make hasty decisions when young. Tempered with age.

 

o Typically romantically active.

 

o Often patrons of wines and spirits.

The Ancient Era

Many years ago, before the great tribulations of the world, there was a small fishing village by the shores of the sea. It was a resolute little settlement, filled with bright banners and cramped stone houses nestled into the windblown cliffs. The Elves that inhabited it called it Okeanos, and it had survived upon the gifts of the sea for as long as anyone remembered.

And even as the sea was the people’s livelihood, it was also their greatest adversary. Storms, bolstered by the warmth of the surrounding waters, often came roaring down from the colder reaches of the north, becoming monstrous hurricanes that battered their houses and washed their hard-earned crops into the sea. Survival upon the cliffs was difficult, but through their will and resolution the Elves persevered, fishing the great ocean and hunting the wild goats that lived in craggy wilderness around their little town.

 

And soon, despite all the elements thrown in their way, the town became a busy port along a trade route. Great ships laden with spices came in from the southern archipelagos, and caravans of northern goods trundled down to meet them. As the settlement grew in wealth and size, several families of prominent thinkers and diplomats began to emerge, vying for control of the democratically elected Council that ruled the city… but one rose above the rest to establish dominance.

The individuals of this family were possessed of dark hair and burning eyes the colour of amber; shorter in stature than the others of the settlement but quicker and more nimble in their movements. They were inclined towards the more active professions, though many were also known for their rhetoric and wit (and it was these who were elected to the Council.) Their faces were finely aquiline and pleasant to look at, with expressive brows and bright smiles.

Though the foundations had been laid, it would be a few generations before the loose family resolved itself into the Acius Bloodline that we see today. The first “true” Acius was a politically inclined elf who is known in posterity as Kyrios Acius. It was he who united the many different branches of the family into one, forging a sense of relation that lasts to this day. He served as the resolute and exemplary keeper of the Bloodline for close to one hundred years. So great were his contributions to the family that his name, Kyrios, became the byword for the “Head of the House”, and every subsequent head has taken it as a title.

 

Kyrios and his life-mate Aglaia raised eight sons, each well known in family lore for their achievements in various pursuits. Among them, two stand out; Oikodomos (who built the first family home, the Acium) and the second Kyrios, Aristodemos, who established the Acius line as a de facto nobility within the settlement after the Council elected him their leader.

The stories of the Acius’ time in Okeanos are many and varied, telling of their successes and failures. Some, such as Aristodemos, are applauded for their leadership. Others, such as his son and heir Lares, are considered tyrants and fiends. “Each Kyrios who ruled from the Acium”, an elf once wrote, “was different. Some were good leaders, some were bad, but all were of the Bloodline.”

Several poets have chronicled the lives of the many politicians, heroes, and tricksters that have stemmed from the family, often resulting in epic tales of strength and combat or parables regarding morality. The golden age ended only with the tragic collapse of Okeanos into the sea, when the Acius family experienced its great diaspora.

The Modern Era

After the loss of Okeanos and the Acium, the Acius Bloodline was scattered across the land. Those that survived the disaster lived in small pockets of twos and threes among the other Elves, mostly keeping to themselves for lack of an organized structure. While they were large, they lacked guidance, and many succumbed to the evils of the world.

It was only during the Fringe Era that the current Kyrios and his wife, (Phanes and Rhea) took up residence in new settlement of the displaced Leanniel Wood Elves, shortly after his niece Hera. They established a home and hearth and were blessed with a child (Antares) soon after their arrival. No sooner had the Aciuses settled than an influx of family members began trickling in; first Hecate, then Solon, then Ares.

 

It was at this time that Hera was blessed with a vision from Yuan, the Aspect of Water and Healing. After consulting with Phanes, they decided to discover whether there was a link between this Aspect and the Acian Pantheon of old, which consisted of twelve separate deities.

 

Upon travelling to the great and grand realm of Athera, Phanes immediately put his remaining resources to work and established a small riverside town beside the bustling main road, constructing a haven for all Wood Elves of the Bronze and Acian persuasion with the help of Rhea and Hera. As before, the family members began trickling in; but this time, they were coming to a town that they could truly call their own.

The Kyrios and current patriarch of the family. An active socialite, winemaker, and occasional soldier of fortune who is entirely devoted to his wife and family. It was he who established the Acium in Athera, gathering his family members and constructing the settlement with his own two hands. He has also returned to his old hobbies of fletching and bowyery.

Rhea Acius (nee Fylangeia)

Phanes' wife and mother of Antares. An active socialite who dabbles in the arts, especially sculpting. Her family (Fylangeia) includes her aunt Hestia, who also married into the Acius Bloodline. The family was one of the major families of Okeanos, and is almost as old as the Acius line itself. Rhea herself is smart, quick, and sassy; always willing to help a family member in need, but not without a good-natured barb first.

The bright and quick-minded eldest daughter of Solon, Hera has a head of fiery red hair and a personality to match. The first of the Acius Bloodline to settle with the Leanniel Elves, she is very well respected within the family and the community.

As Solon's slightly less audacious second daughter, Hecate had a chip on her shoulder when she first came to Lin'ame. Now, however, she is a full member of society, with her interest in the arcane finally coming into play.

A fighter, headstrong and stubborn. Loyal to the Bloodline above most other things, Ares can be hot-headed and rash at times.

Pallas Acius

Second son of Hermes and Hestia. A fiery youth who enjoys proving his strength in various forms of combat. Though his loyalty to the family is unquestioned, his relationship with Astraeus is strained because Pallas believes himself capable of being a better first son than his elder brother.

 Lelantos' wife and member of another bloodline originating in Okeanos, the Rhodomos. She is kind-hearted and savvy, always quick to supply solutions when none are evident, as well as help out any member of the family in need. She and her line have flaxen hair, a rarity among Wood Elves.

The elder brother of Asteria (now an Acius,) Scipio is the last in a long line of Rhodomos' who were bound by honour to protect the Bloodline. With blonde hair and eyes of dark amber, he is the Family Rhodomos epitomised. Due to his long tenure accompanying them after the diaspora and the times leading up to the Refounding, he is very close to Hermes, Hestia, and their children. Like almost all of the males in his family, he is a skilled archer and melee fighter.

Astraeus looks down to the pool of water, slipping fingers into its surface. He smiles widely as he notices the splashing of the aquifer slowly wearing down the surface of the stone in the cave. He rises, and holds a torch up, illuminating the dark cavern. Astraeus steps forward, past the pool of water. He walks for what seems to be hours, his only guides being anticipation, and the low light of a torch.

 

Astraeus feels himself nearing his goal. He extinguishes the torch, and searches for a light with his amber eyes. From a distance, a pale white light illuminates the innards of the cave. Astraeus, smiling widely, approaches it. From a large hole in the cavern, the light of the moon and stars pours both dancing illuminations and illustrious glimmers into the cave. Astraeus stares upwards, wordless. His jaw drops, and his lips curl into a joyous smile. He nods once, saying only a single line as he observes the astral beauty of the cosmos.

Lelantos lets out a long drawn out yawn as he wakes. He turns around placing a hand on Asteria's back to stir her from her slumber before getting up and putting on his garb. Grabbing a spear, he steps out of his home and into the Acium, stretching as he walks towards the river. Nodding to those he passes, offering soft-spoken greetings. As his bare feet touch the sand, he lets out a relaxed sigh. Moving towards the water, his eyes narrow as he looks into the depths before walking in to about waist depth. He holds the spear above his head steadily as he looks for his quarry. remaining absolutely still. Suddenly in the corner of his eye he catches a brief jolt of movement, he turns swiftly, thrusting the spear into the blue. His eyes widen as he feels the spear strike it's target. Wrenching the spear from the water, his excited demeanour quickly fades as he observes the large piece dulse. His shoulders slump as he drags the spear with him, dragging his feet home to see what Asteria has cooking.

Awaking minutes later before witnessing her husband leave to the river, she -having been unsatisfied with fish- ponders for a special dish for her husband to come home to. Managing to convince her brother Tallas to hunt a deer, she sets up a station to prepare for said deer, having buckets of clean water, a hook stuck onto the wall to hand the dear on. With the help of her brother, they manage to hang the deer's head onto the hook, slipping on her glove and reaching for her skinning knife. She starts by gutting the deer by splitting the stomach membrane, working from the bottom, or pelvis, upward. Allowing only the very tip of the knife into the abdomen, so that the stomach and intestines are not ruptured. After having split upward to the base of the sternum, she reaches into the abdomen and pull out the organs, having a container next to her, she drops the organs into the bucket and keeping her working area clean. She then splits the sternum, with a saw. Spreading the chest open, being careful the heart doesn't drop to save it for food. She pulls out the lungs and heart, as well as the wind pipe and esophagus, then rinse the body cavity thoroughly. She then begins remove each of the hooves at the elbow. With the point of her knife, she finds the joint and make an incision. Then, move her knife around the joint with the flat of the blade, cutting the ligaments and carefully working the knife around the elbow joint as deeply as possible, twisting the joint firmly and snap it off. She then cuts around the base of the neck, then down towards the breastbone, and finally to the stomach, pelvis and the forelegs. After eventually skinning it fully, she rinses the deer's carcass, washing away any hair that has stuck to the meat and also to help cool the meat while she is completing the job. She then cuts the meat into smaller pieces onto a plate, cooking the venison dinner~ ((You said I could write anything, Smirv, I WROTE SOMETHING!))

"Ahh....." Hermes Acius awakens in the late afternoon, stretching mildly as he casts his gaze about. "Gah.. Slept in again,hm?" He muses, chuckling softly as he stands upon his feet, scratching his stomach as he yawns again. He steps lazily to the Acium, his calming smile greeting those around. "Forgive me, I did not plan on sleeping in this late. I thought I would be up in the early afternoon at best..." He then bursts out laughing. "Ah, who am I fooling, I will sleep in tomorrow as well! Let us feast deep into the night, shall we?" He calls out, already in a festive mood.

Would I be able to write a history on my guerrilla fighting Acius? I made an Elf to try and help the Elves out against the White Rose and talked to PtahWithin and if I am not mistaken; he accepted me into this family tree. I named this Elf Yanetian Acius.

While PtahWithin established the Bronze and the Beru'cinhir and made his mark on the Fringe's Lin'ame, the Aciuses were created (OOC'ly as a bloodline) later and separately. It is very likely that your elf was named Yanetian Haumel, which was Ptah's in-character surname... as a matter of fact, the bloodlines are not even interconnected. That said, I'd be glad to have you write something from the vantage point of an Acius; whether or not you retcon is entirely up to you.

"Come here Phoebe," Hestia had said, having watched as Phoebe had got upset over her two brothers trying to impress there father. "Do not fret," Hestia said to Phoebe, "One day you are to do the same." Phoebe had enough of what had happened, storming out of there home. Hestia had followed after, watching as her daughter got upset. "Little one.. do not get upset over the inevitable, instead use this to your advantage" Hestia had said. ((Don't make the same mistake as me, say no to third person past tense))
