Ellimist 40 Share Posted June 12, 2014 So this just got posted: https://mojang.com/2014/06/lets-talk-server-monetisation/ And unfortunately LOTC's current donation system violates three of these rules: You are allowed to sell in-game items so long as they don’t affect gameplay Ender and Aether tiers gives users a mount. You cannot charge real-world cash for in-game currency While not strictly charging for money, Minas is included in donation packages You are not allowed to restrict gameplay features in an attempt to make money Where do even you start on this one? You can't even build on a plot unless you donate Diamond or higher. There's too many to count right here. It looks like a revision of the way LOTC makes money is needed. Sorry if this is in the wrong section I wasn't sure. And I know it isn't so much feedback as it is just information.
Aislin 4354 Share Posted June 12, 2014 Do you really think Mojang is going to send a Minecraft SWAT team to Tythus' house for this breaking of rules?
Eleatic 1033 Share Posted June 12, 2014 Have fun with a dead multiplayer, Mojang. What a stupid rule.
ski_king3 0 Share Posted June 12, 2014 Giving plots to donators certainly doesn't restrict gameplay to donors only.
Ellimist 40 Author Share Posted June 12, 2014 Do you really think Mojang is going to send a Minecraft SWAT team to Tythus' house for this breaking of rules? I don't know, I'm just bringing the information here but LOTC is in a direct violation of these rules. If they're not changed then a cease and desist might be issued, I don't know how these things work.
Cappy 1599 Share Posted June 12, 2014 I swear there was another thread about this that got shot down but I can't seem to find it.

The first one you mentioned, here is my response quoted from the link you put You are allowed to sell in-game items so long as they don’t affect gameplayWe don’t mind you selling items in game, but they must be purely cosmetic. Pets, hats, and particle effects are OK The mounts are included in 'pets'. The minas, that may be an issue. The 'building restriction' is not donator only. Any are allowed to claim plots, it's just donators get something extra.
Ellimist 40 Author Share Posted June 12, 2014 Giving plots to donators certainly doesn't restrict gameplay to donors only. You are allowed to charge players to access your serverSo long as the fee is the same for all players, you are allowed to charge for access to your server. You are not allowed to split your playerbase into paying, and non-paying users, nor can you restrict gameplay elements to different tiers of player. Arkelos 1027 Share Posted June 12, 2014 I swear there was another thread about this that got shot down but I can't seem to find it. It was only shut down because it was Reddit Drama, this is taken off the Mojang website, and should be adhered to.

I don't know where the line is.

Ellimist 40 Author Share Posted June 12, 2014 I suppose, but there's still a great many things the server is guilty of breaking. It's only been half an hour so we'll just have to see what the dev team think and whether or not they're going to ask for clarification.
Jistuma 1996 Share Posted June 12, 2014 You are allowed to sell in-game items so long as they don’t affect gameplay Ender and Aether tiers gives users a mount.Having a mount doesn't affect gameplay, it's astectic and pretty, but doesn't give you any advantage in anything. You cannot charge real-world cash for in-game currency While not strictly charging for money, Minas is included in donation packagesYou do not exchange IRL for IG currency, it's a gift, a gift that you can not receive again by donating more, you just receive another gift. You are not allowed to restrict gameplay features in an attempt to make money Where do even you start on this one? There's too many to count right here.Yes you can build without being a donator, you can get perms without being a donator, and you can buy protections with IG currency that you get by killing mobs and trading. Donators plots are simply easier to get.[edit] Actually, plots are not a gameplay feature, they are a plugin not part of MC. So are mounts.

You have some points on the other rules but there are still violations. Take it up with Mojang, not me.
