Hey so I'm sure you guys have been keeping up with,

http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/112835-proposal-switch-to-an-old-map-solutions-for-the-fringe-til-40/

There's a lot strong opinions that seem to suggest fringe is quite a dull place and I think we can remedy that while also giving us some cushion.

Those of you who are more directly in-contact with the players or in-game to see this stuff going on, does the following idea sound like a good idea to you?

1) We move to a MC generated (Large biomes?) map, build a temple, a kings road and a Portal to 4.0 off deep in the wilderness.

2) Move over a few of the new plugins (Crafting, Region Claim, Professions?)

3) Move to this map with an event in the Fringe.

This will allow us to test new plugins before 4.0, buy us some time in finishing the map and show the players we're one step closer to moving to it.

Thanks for reading!

Sounds like a really really good solution, the fringeis killing folk

I'm not sure exactly what it is about the Fringe itself though that is killing RP. It's my only dilemma. What if that same thing happens in this new place? Its the thing that bothers me most. To me, we need to figure out what is killing the rp in the Fringe before we can really say that moving to a new place will help. Is it size? Is it the people? Is it rules? Plug-ins? Etc. If you guys know then great, I just am not sure.

We could wipe everyone's items as well, get rid of the duped stuff. With no cities to start with people may just work together.

The one problem I see is people claiming we are turning into PvP factions (strange, and silly)

At the moment I log in to moderate, I don't log in to role-play or try and have a good time because literally none exists on this map. I don't know if changing to an MC generated map will help (last time we did it it was a ******* nightmare that we promptly took down because it was so bad it was ruining LotC's name) but putting some of the new plugins on the server will both keep people busy and ease the transition to 4.0. Dropping a ton of new plugins on players like a bombshell will cause a lot of chaos come 4.0.

Edit: since when did the forum ******* block cursing. **** off, you are violating my right to be Australian.

I think if we came up with a decent storyline, and something long term, people would have a better time. Like the plague. It was a fantastic idea, but it was over too quickly. We need something that will last. As much as I think the drought would be unique I don't think it's intriguing enough to really make good rp.

A couple things are killing the fringe.

-everything is claimed

-the novelty has worn off

-nothing to explore. It's an enclosed area that is quite small.

-they took ALL their items from Anthos so they were already set.

Because the only actual thing to do in the fringe was explore and build your home it caused a flurry of exponential growth for the first little while and then a huge crash. The smartest thing we can do is move to MC gen and clear the items away. Give them something to do!

I didn't think I'd agree with a proposition that would mean release of Nexus content before 4.0.

But its' actually brilliant on many levels, so I do agree, with a few simple conditions of course. Things like, we wouldn't be releasing professions or magic for instance before the release, just the sensible stuff.

As a tech I want players to begin getting further used to the interfacing system and give players a slower transition, get them used to the idea beyond just the ArcheCore interaction.

  • Getting players to stress test the system of inventory interfaces
  • Introducing the mechanics of custom crafting, and getting associated feedback

Those two bullets I feel are going to be enough for players to handle, perhaps no more than that. Both of those alone are already going to be another experience.

Region claim plugin is possible because of how literally fast you can set up 100+ completely functional Nexus-Regions. (<6 hrs). If you want to do that or not is up to you shiftnative. Personally I believe this would give us some insight as to what players will be doing come 4.0, and gather some good feedback for this yet untested system.

What BrandNewKitten said is wise, but beyond that, necessary. We'd be transitioning to custom items, and while vanilla items would all technically convert, we'd be missing the point of bottlenecking crafting. So, all items will go.

As an ending note, primarily because we'd be in an MC generated world, we should make sure that the premises of this change is an early access for the Nexus plugin. We get to clear items, start on a clean slate, and make sure that 4.0 will be polished. And better yet, players get to try out the experience.

Don't worry I'm ready to take the crap lol, I'm on vacation anyways.

Also if we wipe items now people will complain now and then when we get to 4.0 it will be much less of a fuss. It gives more focus to the actual content of 4.0 and less to the pixels they had to hand over to get there.

I think we should do this. Test plugins, new map... all of it.

Currently on the public thread people are wanting to take screenshots of special items to get them remade in the future.... I think we should only be remaking /approved items. If it's not moderator approved or a "lore" item... It's gone.

The thing with Minecraft is.... You need a new map from time to time, It puts the fire back. You have to start all over, gather items, rebuild ect.

When 4.0 comes we really should just remove all items. The more special artifact items there are, the less they are worth in terms of importance. They are a novelty right now.

Nothing will be remade in 4.0 save for /very/ important items. Players are going to have to deal and just RP with unnamed, descriptionless items like in Aegis and into Asulon.

The reason the Fringe is bad is because it is a temp map. People have got it in their heads that whatever they do in the Fringe in RP will have no impact once we leave it. So they all just do whatever. Which combined with boredom is why trolling is so rampant on this map which is what is killing RP.

Also I don't agree with people taking over special named items, even if they are moderator approved. I think no items should be carried over at all with zero exceptions. I think the server would benefit more from a fresh start.
