[Idea] Relax The Forums

In response to people saying that this post is bashy... there's nothing wrong with explaining a situation that took place on a public forum, and it doesn't seem like Kipples is going out of his way to put down Bird Whisperer. He is simply using his experience as an example of how he thinks many staff members are too strict about what they allow and what they do not on the forums. He's not insulting her, or attempting to turn the entire server against her, or any of that. He's just stating that he feels like he's been treated unfairly and using that as an example to back his claim.

(I'm not taking one side or the other, simply pointing out that constructive criticism and naming is okay)

As much as I love the Teutonic Order,  it has to be said that a great deal of their organizational structure is taken from the historic Teutonic Order. In Aegis, their cities were both Nuremberg and Konnigsberg (now Kaliningrad and the former headquarters of the Order.) In Asulon, their capital was Dresden (another German city). I forget their capital in Anthos, but I believe that was an original name.

The head of the Teutonic Order is the Hochmeister (a German word, and the same title as the head of the actual Teutonic Order).

Other ranks taken from the actual Teutonic order:

1. Ordenmarshall

2. Großspittler

3. Landmeister

Among others undoubtedly, I have not looked at the ranks of the Teutonic Order in quite some time. They also worshiped a Goddess Celestia for sometime, I wonder where that comes from? Oh wait, Pope Celestine III affirmed the status of the Teutonic Order http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celestine_III .

In addition, this is the logo of the actual Teutonic Order.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/45/Insignia_Germany_Order_Teutonic.svg/260px-Insignia_Germany_Order_Teutonic.svg.png

Not knocking them, but saying that a person cannot have a Parliamentary Democracy because it is not original is simply silly. Let me go over some of the famous examples of Lord of the Craft being unoriginal.

1. The name Lord of the Craft

2. There was a very famous castle in Aegis called Winterfell ruled by you guessed it, the Starks.

3. There have been families with the name Baelish, Targaryen, Tully, and Hightower on the server.

4. There was a family of Elendil. In the Lord of the Rings, Elendil was the ancestor of Aragorn.

5. There was a famous Sword Durandale named after the famous Knight Roland's sword.

6. The creation lore that Availer (the creator of the server) made speaks of the Seven Skies which is in fact a Muslim term (he is Muslim)

7. Iblees is Devil in Arabic

8. Aegis is the Greek word for Shield

9. Al'Khazar was named after a nomadic Turkic group

10. The Holy Oren Empire was the Holy Roman Empire, the Second Empire even had the Electoral System of the HRE

11. Snow Elves = Elder Scrolls?

12. The Order of the White Rose is a real Order.

13. House Flay was a revision of House Bolton from A Song of Ice and Fire, their coat of arms were exactly the same.

And beyond that we have hundreds more references or complete rip offs of existing media or organizations that it is not even fair to single out one idea as being unoriginal. You are going to have to do a near wipe of the forums to remove the rip offs.

I remember when I was made Fm, and when I was one. Ski-king gave me an amazing introduction talk. It was like a big brother telling me how the world worked. It was essentially "Before you lock, delete, hide, punish someone, or anything, imagine yourself in the persons shoes. Is the thing you're doing over the top? Was it fair? Everyone's a person, treat them like it."

It taught me moderation needs a balance. Sometimes people are out for a little fun, and that's all. I suggest the FM's take Ski's suggestion, and relate to people more. You're not keyboard warriors, here to defend the weak. You're here to make sure our forums look clean and respectable.

This is what an FM should have sticked to their monitor.

The FM's are meant to control the forums and make sure there is no trolling and no 'bad words' and none of what Kipples done was troll (Maybe the meme) But apart from that I agree +1

Welp. I'm going to start by apologizing if I seemed hostile or condescending. That's never my intention, however in the situation with your Great Britain thread you were being a bit aggressive yourself. I still stand that it was far too blatant in its IRL references, even when compared to Adunians, Teutons, and Druids. Yet removing the thread and giving you a warn was not my decision alone, it was brought up to the whole FM chat.

And I got a point, was it because I hadn't declared who said it? I feel like Birdwhisperer has some sort of ooc vendetta because prior situation. http://gyazo.com/08ed3f947eb6358aa0d8464396a5bcc1

I removed this point after you appealed it, so I don't really see how that would indicate bias. http://gyazo.com/8b2d2f0c1e47017923824c784643b6e5

As for the forums in general, I don't think it should be relaxed. I personally don't care what you do in OOC threads, but we are still an RP server and there should be a certain level of integrity and quality expected in the RP forums. The rules are rather straightforward. Don't post OOC in an RP thread. If you have to, use brackets or spoilers, and don't do it too frequently. Follow that, you won't have any problems. Even considering all this, I've sent people PMs and 0-point warnings for their infractions more often than I've actually warned.

This thread wasn't aimed at you, I just used our interaction as an example, my point still stands and goes out to the whol FM team.

And ofc I was annoyed, but not aggressive I wouldn't think.

I thought I mentioned some sort of appreciation for your understanding, perhaps not.

I see what you are trying to defend but ultimately RP isn't in grave danger or need of defending, not on the forums at least. There comes a point where you have to look at this "Integrity and quality" as a game, a minecraft forums. And the fact is that everytime you warn me it contributes to me not being able to play the game, so your idealistic view of perfect roleplay is going to be shrouded by people who recognise it is a game and want to play to have fun. It is understandable that if something I say is offensive then it should be removed, perhaps warrant a point, but I literally did nothing that harmed anybody's experience on these forums. You haven't sent me 0 warning PMs just flat out warnings.

You said thanks, yes. However you called me biased for adding a point but left out the fact that I removed it an hour later. I was simply clarifying that. And if you are worried about being banned, your older warnings can be appealed and most of the mods who gave them are still around, simply try sending them a message.

Yes, it's a game. But games have rules that everyone is expected to play by.

I saw this and was really tempted to lock the thread.

But, so long as everyone shows the shared values of respect and kindness... we should be good. Don't act mean or spammy and you won't be warned.

literally what the heck

Why

Because I enjoy the grief that my moderating powers cause others. I feed off of your sorrows and your broken dreams. Every warning point and locked thread makes me that much stronger. Soon, yes, very soon, I shall rule these forums with an iron fist, banning all those I see fit. It shall be a perfect world, a world where you log off every night with a sickening feeling in your heart.

It is the feeling that comes when you know you are watched. When you are stuck in an online dystopia where you work to feed my power with your hidden complaints and deleted statuses.

And there is no escape.

I'm going to say no. I commend the FMs for picking up the slack and doing exactly what the playerbase requested of them. I am sure they anticipated threads like this one, and I hope they will stick to their original intent despite the feedback threads.

Truth is, the rules that are being enforced were rules that have existed for a long, long time. Enforcement of these rules was lacking because, I am guessing, the staff was hoping for the players to find an equilibrium on their own. Bias has nothing to do with it. Of course since the forums have come to the state that they have now a sudden re-enforcement of the rules seems radical and iron-fisted, but it consists of nothing but reaffirming the standard the staff was expecting of us, the players, all along.
