Establishment Of A Protectorate, 1463

By Imperial decree, the newly established Commonwealth of Shortwood is hereby established as a Protectorate under the Imperium Tertius, with His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Robert Chivay being granted the title of Senior Protector of Shortwood.

The Imperium Tertius is willing to accept the Village of Shortwood and surrounding Hamlet as an official commonwealth under the Empire, provided they adhere to these principles and regulations:

 

• The Commonwealth swears an oath of loyalty and unwavering friendship to the Imperium Tertius, pledging its support and a mutual agreement of assistance.
• The Commonwealth pays a tribute of ten hay bales per annum to the Imperium Tertius as a token of good will and everlasting harmony between the Commonwealth and its Protector.
• The Commonwealth and its citizens adhere, understand and agree to follow the laws of the Imperium Tertius, and recognize the Imperial Justiciar as the head of legal authority among the Commonwealth.
• The Commonwealth agrees not to harbor any fugitives of the Imperium Tertius.
• The Commonwealth recognizes the Emperor of the Imperium Tertius, Robert Primus Aeldinicus Chivay, as its Senior Protector.

 

In return, the Imperium Tertius will grant unto the Halflings:

 

• The Title of the Commonwealth of Shortwood, officially recognized as a Protectorate under the Imperium Tertius.
• The Title of Patrician to the appointed head of the Commonwealth.
• The Privilege to appoint a representative of the Commonwealth to act on behalf of the interests of the Commonwealth, who will work with the Imperial Administration.
• The Privilege to suggest the appointment of an Bailiff of the Commonwealth and, upon their acceptance, to act as an enforcer of the Imperium's laws within the Commonwealth.
• The Promise that the Imperium Tertius will act always in the defense of the Commonwealth and its people.

 

The Following signatories hereby agree to the aforementioned principles, and their signatures act as their respective nations' binding agreement and understanding of the document.

Richard nods his head, though he already knew this was coming. He still finds it a bit of a shake to see the Free nation now apart  of the old Empire again, though he says aloud "Largely odd, but the Chivays are not too strange of leaders for me to assume they will do anything malicious"
