A middle aged dwarf enters into Kal'Agnar. He wears frost covered pelts as a tunic over well-crafted chainmail that clatters with each step and a fearsome axe on his back, obviously intended for things other than trees...

 

A group of dwarves approached him and started a polite conversation in which they exchanged the news of the loss of a king. When Thogrim asked how the last king left he was told 'Diabetes'. He walked away, confused at what the dwarves had said but imagined that they were well into their drink. It was 4 o'clock after all and he remembered he didn't even have a single drink yet... usually he was about 3 pints in already.

 

Thogrim went up to the hall and got a paper from one of the Remembrancer stooges and tucked it away underneath his frosty pelt coat. Heading with purpose he made his way down in an even stride to the tavern where he threw a few coins from a full purse to the Tavern maid and slammed down a tankard on a table full of patrons. Laying out the paper in front of him he went over and grabbed one of the spare (almost dry) quill and ink from a shelf and took a long swig of Ale.

 

He sat there for nearly half an hour deep in thought it seemed, hand combing through his beard and quill poised in his hand as he looked at the paper. The other patrons didn't even notice him until he poked his nearest neighbor. 

 

"Oi, wha' du ye wont?" The dwarf said, confused.

 

Thogrim brought up the paper in front of the dwarf next to him and placed a thick finger onto the parchment.

 

"Wot does dis say?"

 

The dwarf stared at Thogrim for a long moment before rearing back in laughter, convinced he was playing with him but when he looked back he saw that Thogrim's face was entirely serious.

 

"Ye'... Ye' canneh read?" The dwarf said in shock.

 

"Neh. Now, wot dues et sahy?"

 

The confused dwarf, still startled, read off the simple piece of paper for Thogrim. Thogrim asked more questions like how does one write their name and vote and whatnot and then turned back to the paper for a while. He grumbled a few things and then put down two X's on the paper. The dwarf noticed it and commented.

 

"Eh? Ah vuted fer whoo I dunnah loik. Es dat nae 'ow et wurks?"

 

The dwarf placed his palm on his face and shook his head in despair. It took another 30 minutes to explain to Thogrim than an X was good, not bad.
