The Waldenian Mages Guild

MC1Selm.png

The Waldenian Mages Guild, central administration for the use of magic within Aesterwald and the surrounding Northern Mountains, is an institute designed to regulate and teach the mysteries of the arcane to a new generation of god-fearing individuals. Each member of the Guild professes his or her full faith and devotion unto the Almighty Creator, swearing to follow in the path of the righteous and vowing never to submit before the temptation that the dark magics of Iblees pose.

The Guild is currently located within the city of Vanderfell under the pious Konig Voron of the House of Rovin.

Guild Regulation

Article One: Use and Misuse

As written by Angoleth

The First Law of Use and Misuse

A mage shall not use his powers for malicious intent, such as murder. This law does not apply to the killing of Orcs, Snow Elves and the act of killing in self-defense with substantial evidence.

The Second Law of Use and Misuse

A mage shall not distort the universe through the use of Morphonic Conjuration, Perennial Conjuration, Contract Magic (Including Okar Contracts), Shade Magic, Necromancy, or Soul Puppetry. This law does not apply to studying the magic out of intent to either defend against it, or to further one's own knowledge. The use of this magic within Waldenian Sovereign Territory, whatever the reason, is prohibited.

The Third Law of Use and Misuse

A mage shall not enthrall, distort, or read the unwilling minds of non-mages through the use of Mental Magic. As stated in the second law, the study of Mental Magic is allowed, but its practice on non-mages is prohibited within Waldenian Sovereign Territory.

The Fourth Law of Use and Misuse

A mage shall not use his magic against his peers in any aggressive manner unless warranted by a Magus. The act of using magic aggressively in self-defense is lawful with substantial evidence.

The Fifth Law of Use and Misuse

The use of the silencing ritual is non-permissible in any way shape or form unless condoned by two of the three High Magi of the Aesterwald Mage’s Guild. The silencing ritual may be performed on apostate mages without the consent of the High or Grand Magi in lieu of death.

Article Two: Guild Etiquette

As written by Angoleth

Section one: Humility

A mage should be humble to both his peers and lessers. So as to ensure lasting peace within our guild and Aesterwald, mages must practice humility with men and women outside of our esteemed organization. This rule need not apply to competitiveness between peers within the guild.

Section Two: Mindfulness

A mage should remain mindful of his or her environment. Be it in terms of magic or in the mundane, one small alteration in the events of everyday life can form a butterfly effect that transfers unto the entire world. Such is our duty as higher minds to understand this effect.

Section Three: Responsibility

A mage, who holds the very tools to alter reality at his disposal, should be held, and hold him(her)self accountable for his actions. A mage should understand the impact that overuse of magic on the uneducated can yield. Not only must he be responsible for his actions, but he or she much cast his or her magic responsibly.

Section Four: Wisdom

Wisdom is not so much something can be taught, but something that comes with great teaching. A properly taught mage should be wise, he or she should know the appropriate decision for certain situations so that we might maintain our stature as men of higher learning.

Article Three: Regarding Apostate Mages

As written by Angoleth

Apostate Grade I

Apostate Grade I is a title given to mages who, despite having broken none of the laws of the guild, are not registered with the Institute and reside within Aesterwald. These apostates are to be either brought to the guild tower for induction, or to be exiled from the city in which they currently trespass. Mages who do not complete the application form, or who are not accepted, are to be considered Apostate Grade I.

Apostate Grade II

Apostate Grade II is a title given to mages who have broken one or more of the four sections of article two. They are to be fined by the guild and, if their brash action has yielded any consequence, to be held responsible for damages and potentially imprisoned.

Apostate Grade III A

Apostate Grade III A is a title given to a mage who has broken one of more of the laws of article one, not including the practice of the Dark Arts. These mages are to be imprisoned on site and tried for their actions. Only after the trial do they pose chance at appeal before being silenced or put to death.

Apostate Grade III B

Apostate Grade III B is a title reserved only for the practitioners of the heinous magicks of Iblees; the manipulators of life and death. They who dwell where no sane mortal could or should. These twisted men and women, once tried and found guilty, must be put to death lest they spread their taint to those unknowing.

"What foolish person gave them the permission to make a 'Mages Guild' of Oren...?"

"Perhaps higher ups have realized it's completely futile to attempt the eradication of a people that continuously reappear as if the prior escapades were never a thing. Instead of destruction, perhaps it would be wise to adapt or if that is asking too much, this may just be a front to nothing more than a day-care for the imperials to keep them in check and in line."  Retorts Dr. Stein to Lorien.

Why you wish to be a member of the guild, in detail. (At least two paragraphs.)

Aesterwald is the home of honest, loyal men; steadfast in their resolve and true to their word. There is no better place to live, learn, and work, even for one of Elvish blood. Rather than place my trust in the dubious and under-qualified members of the Raine Academy or other such groups, I have chosen to throw in my lot with the Waldenian Mages Guild.

Having retired from other pursuits, I have elected to focus the entirety of my prodigious mental skill on perfecting my long-neglected arcane abilities. Though I am more than a little rusty, I believe that I shall be of great use to the Guild; I bring not only a fairly advanced level of knowledge in my arts but also a great deal of experience in the crafting of staves, which intuition tells me shall become paramount in coming days.

What types of magic do you currently practice, if applicable?

Mental Magic and Electrical Evocation

What types of magic are you interested in studying and or learning?

I am interested in honing my existing arcane skill, as well as expanding my knowledge regarding lesser-known magics.

Have you ever been apart of another institute, I.E the Mage’s Guild, Raine Academy, the Wizard’s Guild, etc?

No.

Do you agree to abide by the laws of both the Guild and Aesterwald?

Yes.

Congratulations, after thorough examination, you have been accepted into the Waldenian Mages Guild. Please pack your things and bring yourself to the guild by the end of the Deep Cold, 1471.

Jonathan sees notice of this guild and sighs softly I suppose it was only a matter of time before the nations of men stopped trying to kill magic wielders and realized magic can be used to further their own blood lust and war mongering. he thinks to himself. Not voicing it of course, as talking to a poster is absurd. He strokes the stubble on his chin as he thinks some more Still, the values and principles this group seeks to uphold are noble. On the surface, this guild would appear more virtuous than the Mages guild. Perhaps I should suss them out, offer my skills. Shrugging, Jonathan turns sharply on his heels and walks off in search of the Waldenian Mage's guild. Never once uttering a word, as speaking to posters is silly

Why you wish to be a member of the guild, in detail. (At least two paragraphs.)

I wish to be a member of this mages college since it serves a purpose to harbor information and that can be something I attend towards, be it giving the guild information on the other colleges or information where you seek to want. My vast knowledge goes beyond such coils. I've studdied magic in my own forms and ways for many upon many a year so I believe it is time to settle down and share my knowledge within this guild. Be it teaching to writing books. Though as a student I would also be learning the many aspects of the art you teach.

I hold no retribution for the things I have done or hold anything accountable, though I want to try and be here apart of this college to see if I have changed, see if I am applicable to change, follow laws and listen to the headmaster which I know I will. I want to be apart of the heaven abay that you offer here and be upon many aspiring people to grow inside of it and learn as with giving something back, knowledge.

What types of magic do you currently practice, if applicable?

I will say that I harbor a dark art, though this won't be practiced within the college or seen, so for this factor I will not state what it is unless the headmaster wills it. I also study within flame, air and telekinesis.

What types of magic are you interested in studying and or learning?

What ever the guild has to offer is something I will learn, though if you have not been abound to the arts or need a teacher I am able.

Have you ever been apart of another institute, I.E the Mage’s Guild, Raine Academy, the Wizard’s Guild, etc?

I've been apart of my own little organization called the "LuTeng" in Anthos though it is a little in the past now.

If yes to the previous question, what position did you hold in said organization?

N/A

Do you agree to abide by the laws of both the Guild and Aesterwald?

Indeed, shall my faith be stolen from me otherwise.

"What Imperials? There is no longer any nation worthy of the title 'Empire', and the guild is based in Aesterwald, which recently seceded from what remains of Oren. Stupid knife-ear needs to get his information straight."

((Just so everyone is aware, this guild is not associated with the Empire of Oren. Aesterwald is a separate kingdom.))

Denied; should you wish to dispute this, appeal directly to the High Magi.
