Then I will cause uproar for shiz.

Seriously, just lock the thread. There is no point in this discussion continuing, and making this change is only teaching the community that causing a forum uproar and shitstorm is the most effective method of getting their way.

what shitstorm

-Staff make a poll. Poll or various input thread gets almost equal, usually negative majority feedback.

-They make the change in favour of the minority.

-Say it's only a test, we'll see how it goes.

-Keeps it forever because too lazy to change it.

-Majority group fades away because it's been a year of campaigning and GM's refuse to budge.

And I thought that nothing worse could be implemented... You proved me wrong, dead wrong... Seriously? It's a forum..

Do you know what the definition of a /FORUM/ is?? I'll go ahead and type it out for you...

"A place, meeting, or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged."

Is that simple enough for you? I sure hope so... Now, to the issue at hand and the highly contradicting 'reasons' as to why these changes have occured... If words from another person hurt you and motivate you to make such changes like this? Perhaps one shouldn't be in a position of such power, if they cannot handle /constructive criticism/.

I am being brutally honest, I'm tired of sugar coating, I'm tired of the red tape that we are all being /FORCED/ into, WE the /PLAYERBASE/ are in the dark! Can you not agree with this? No consultation to allow us to give you feedback, "No let's just censor them because they're just the players, who gives a hoot right?"

This is a problem staff members, and one month? Do you remember what happened to 'Just give it a chance?' Do you even know how hollow of a sentence that is now?

'Just give it a chance' means 'It will stick, if you don't like it, boowhoo... Deal with it.'

VERY problematic for examples of leadership, LOTC was perfectly fine, and now these liberal like changes are being made... Staff, I urge you to reconsider this crap, all of it, the server is going into a deep trench because of these choices. I've been staff on many servers, I'm not saying I'm better or worse, but never in my friggen brain would I come up with censoring the community! NEVER!

That annoys me, truly.. I'm now giving you my feedback on this forum, because I cannot post a status about it.. How troubling... And Reputation? How in the world is that a negative impact? If players gain rep, it's because they've earned it, good or bad.. It's on them..

Go back to how things were, I promise... Things will get better... Nothing was broken then! Now everything is broke, Server, Forums, Freedom of Speech, Staff..

It's all on you, if you want the server to continue this way, 'Obviously' we can't do crap about it, we don't have the perms, but this is /ALL/ on you! I am going to put all the staff in one classification, 'STAFF'. General! Stop. Fixing. Crap. That. Isn't. Broken!

And please... Let us know your 'ideas' before putting them into action by voting amongst yourselves... That's simply just selfish of all of you, thinking what is best for the playerbase, we're not your children, we have thoughts and feedback..

That's my two cents, I hope you take my words seriously, this has gone on far enough.

-snip-

Please use the Support & Assistance thread for quick help and fixes. That forum is exactly what you are looking for in terms of quick questions and general assistance. (e.g. your vip is gone request will no longer disappear over time but will be available for all staff to view until your problem is resolved).

In my experience the staff tend to 'mix up' legitimate complaints with flaming and trolling.

+ If you're going to have the status updates as a way of 'quick news', don't let staff post on each other's crap with humorous/conversation starting comments. If it's news, we'll read it as news not a way for staff to have a nice chat in front of us.

I'm in no position to make an official statement or advocate for this change but I'd like to note that I personally want to see this change in effect for a little while as the Admin Team has declared and see how it really stands the test of time.

The staff is not censoring any information because status updates are not the sole means of communication. You have all rights to make a thorough post about your stance on a certain issue, provided it isn't intended to be flame fuel and is written respectfully.

Someone noted that as a result of this change we will most likely see an influx of people chatting in OOC. I actually don't mind seeing more players in-game, that sounds like a positive.

If you have an issue you want to resolve in-game like VIP problems it makes it much easier for me to do my job if your info update doesn't disappear after an hour.

If you have an issue with a topic make your suggestions and add your feedback directly to the topic. I personally would much rather see your opinion fleshed out in the form of a post rather than a status update "this [noun] is [verbs]!!" (vague and uninformative).

If you have an issue with a player consult them through private messaging to resolve your issues cordially, do not try to public shame them, that is bullying!

If you have an issue with a certain plugin or in-game problem, it is much preferred that you leave a /bug report in game, or /modreq your problem to staff, or make a topic on the forums. Status updates are volatile in the sense that they provoke emotion without having to provide details or proof, and in the sense that they are gone very soon and seen by few of those in the intended audience.

I wouldn't mind having to sift through some extra threads in Support & Assistance, or handling more queries in-game, if it means that we can evolve in attitude and appreciation of responsibility as a server and community. My personal opinion is that status updates, in the sense that their existence is not fundamental to our experience, are a privilege rather than a right. :)

And shortly about reputation,

Reputation feels really nice and accomplishing like you did something on the community that was worthwhile. For most people.

But for some people, reputation is a reflection of how many trolly/derogatory posts you managed to scam some reputation points for, shitposting because it's "worth the rep" should not have to be an issue. I'm personally not sure if it is worth a removal but I'm willing to test drive this.

It is a good way to appreciate the community response to a certain view however, so I am glad individual post rep remains. Perhaps bringing back -1's will seal the deal. ;)

By popular demand and by popular necessity, the thread is being locked. Here are some thoughts I'd like to end on, though.

For one, I must say that I am incredibly disappointed. In 12 hours since the posting of this thread, I have seen nothing but 200 posts (might be less for non mods, as all hidden posts are included for me) of inflammatory, hateful, derogatory, spiteful, childish and rude bickering, complaining and fits. When will you guys learn? We are NOT going to listen to you if you are incapable of replying to an announcement maturely and respectfully. I myself SKIPPED at least 100 responses that were not appropriate, and for that very reason they were nothing more to me than useless wastes of space. I lingered on the replies that were actually helpful, the ones that constructively criticized our changes and gave insight into why certain aspects of them weren't needed. I and the staff do care about the fact that our changes can affect you guys for better or for worse, but if you can't tell us that properly then don't be surprised if you're ignored.

Second, I'd like to take this time to mention that the aforementioned attitudes were completely misplaced and unnecessary anyways. As I stated in the OP, these changes are TEMPORARY as we are merely TESTING the effects of their implementations. In this trial we are not killing the server, we're not out to get you, and we're certainly not ruining your lives. In fact, the one month period of time itself is not set in stone either, as it is merely an estimate of how long it will take for us to accurately judge the value of the changes. If it takes a week instead, then that is when we will adjust our course, revert back to where we are, or continue as we stand. There is absolutely no reasonable need for alarm, especially since we already have a predetermined idea of where to go next after considering the few players that had it in them to be civil in their feedback.

In closing, I'm going to make a final note on attitude which is something that is NOT up for debate. FMs, GMs and even Admins alike have become far too lenient when it comes to upholding forum rules pertaining to proper behavior, but after tonight I believe we can't afford any more room for negligence. What happened tonight in this thread will no longer fly. There will no longer be scoldings or even warns for blatant bad behavior. There will no longer be leniency when a staff member upholding the rules is poked and prodded. There will no longer be room on this server for anyone that acts in a way that directly infringes upon our goal of being a loving and accepting community. You will be banned without a second thought, as you will not deserve to be here. Those who find loopholes or excuses to continue acting in such a way will not be humored, they will face the same punishment. I am not posting this update in its own thread as it is already in the rules, so ignorance of this "change" will earn you nothing.

Be on the look out for the Your View that should be arriving tomorrow, as we will most certainly be using that to judge where to go next.
