A short Thesis on the 'Stormking"

By: The Sage of Ostrovia

TO the reader, I have penned this short document to share a glimpse into my take on this rebellion. I will share a few points and detail their relevance.

To begin, I will take a trek through history.

The Royal Rebellion, the brainchild of the Tarus dynasty. The rebellion begun as a proposition to the nobility of Oren, that the Carrion Vochna monarchs (Ex. Siegmund and Ostromir) where tyrannical leaders who should be stripped of their titles and status. They called the nobility to join in open rebellion. However, this plan failed miserably and the Tarus dynasty was shunned from the limelight.

In comparison we can see that the Royal Rebellion and Maric Varodyr's Rebellion share the likes. I shall detail the immense mistakes that both hosts made.

1. Royal Claim

Unlike the "Storm King" the Tarus dynasty once ruled the realm of man, and shared in the communal dynasty of man. Although a very minuscule claim, they had one and therefor their rebellion was considered partly legitimate. Unfortunately for Maric II Varodyr, he has no claim to be the ruler of humanity. With no direct children, he doesn't even have the Horen blood to have a claim.

2. Disloyalty and Treason

The House of Varodyr for time was considered one of the most prestigious of houses in the Realm of Man. They served the Faith and the Carrion dynasty without question. Maric II was fathered by a good friend and adviser of one of the first Carrion monarchs, Ostromir Carrion. So I must question the motives of this man, if both houses where folded together in the annuals of history than why would he betray his closest friends and his regenal ruler; whom he swore an oath of loyalty to?

3. Inability

For a King or Emperor to rule humanity he must be adept at his job. For he must act as the first citizen and ensure the safety of the Empire. It is a hard job, and one only a select breed may fill. If Maric was to be our supreme ruler, I very much doubt he would be able to fill the shoes Tuvya left.

While Maric II formed the Knights of the Red Dragon for a good purpose, the Order later faded into a taint. Their citadel falling silent and their institutions left empty, and they where rarely seen outside of the citadel, Would we want our King leaving Petrus empty due to inability to lead a cause?

4. Political Motive

Maric II claims his rebellion is based off offenses that Tuvya made against the Realm & her Kin. However, I question the legitimacy of these claims. Tuvya stepped in after the Chivay dynasty fell and restored stability to the Realm, as well as uniting Aesterwald with her mother country.

One may go on about the ability of Tuvya as a steward, for he saw Petrus rise to prominence for a short while and garnered the richest Empire to date. I ask why would we want such a supreme and efficient Emperor off his throne? Other than to satisfy the greed of Maric II Varodyr??

5. Heritage

The House of Varodyr has a noble and detailed history, however one may note they where one born Adunians and thus share the blood of Elves. The Ruler of Humanity is to be a human, not a mut of Elven blood.

Final thoughts

Five brandished points, each with valid reasons. So I must ask the motives of Maric? Is it Greed? I doubt so, as the Varodyr family is renown for their piety; they wouldn't betray the will of the Creator.

I suggest a possible cause', Maric II has in-fact been corrupted by the Archdemon himself. Iblees, curse his name is known to corrupt political leaders to further his influence. Throwing the realm into chaos would only allow his armies to devastate Humanity further and making him achieve his end goal of eradicating the descendant races.

May this evidenced help you come to peace with the madness of Maric II, and may the Creator bless each man who serves his Emperor and his CREATOR.

Anyone in the Konigreich of Aesterwald would bluntly point out that the unification of the two soveriegn nations was done so under imminent threat of war despite the invasion of the Undead.

Otto Rovin would note that the Konigreich of Aesterwald was prepared for war regardless under good King Frederick, but it was Voron who wanted the unification regardless. Be it from cowardice or peace-thinking, Otto would not know.

To rebuke this claim, the "Storm King" is married to Ayana Horen a decendent of Horen V being his granddaughter, thus giving a claim to press on Renatus. Maric Varodyr has stated he does not want to rule all of humanity but Renatus the Heartlander Kingdom that was stolen from the Horen Dynasty. House Varodyr also has Chivay blood running through the house, so that is also a blood claim. It is quite hypocritical for someone defending the Carrion dynasty to use Royal Claim, as the Royal Claim of House Carrion was based around a Clergyman breaking his vows to the Maker to name himself King of lands granted to form a separate Church State.

Maric decided to rise up in rebellion to defend himself, his family and those who chose to serve him after the Emperor declared him a traitor without due process. All men are subject to law be it prince or peasant as the ruler of the Empire is not chosen by some Divine right, but Electors who are influenced by the people. Lastly Marics father did not serve Ostromir, his father served Heinrik as Maric II's father is Malric Varodyr.

I don't know where you've got your information from, but the Knights went on quests and would protect the citizens they come across. Maric formed a new chapter of the Order for the specific purpose of fighting and destroying the Undead and received little support from the Crown in terms of men from the Imperial Levy. As for filling the shoes of Tuvya, Tuvya has shown he no longer has his peoples best interests at heart, even once stating to me "Since when are commoners granted trials as such" when I questioned his methods of finding traitors.

The only motive Maric has, is that to bring justice and freedom to the Empire again. He does not care for personal gain as he is a man that believes a King does not rule his people but serves them, commanding a firm but fair style of leadership. He also has no desire for the Imperial throne as many wish to see it gone. As for Tuvya bringing balance to the Empire after the Chivay Dynasty fell, that was work done by Boris Carrion and Roy Carrion the latter being named a bastard due to speaking out. As for the claims that Tuvya made the Empire rich, the wealth was only gathered by House Carrion, as Abresi under Carrion reign was notorious for being messy.

5. Heritage

The House of Varodyr has a noble and detailed history, however one may note they where one born Adunians and thus share the blood of Elves. The Ruler of Humanity is to be a human, not a mut of Elven blood.

If you are refering to when Varodyr was MacCray which was when it was an Adunian family. Blood that was however was at least fifteen generations ago and the Adunian blood was bred out in four generations before the formation of the Holy Oren Empire in Asulon. Not to mention no one protested the Chivay Dwarven blood and Emperor Roberts quarter elven blood until the Carrions rose up to dethrone Robert.

It is easy to try and use that as an excuse, you contradicted yourself however, saying the family would never betray the will of the creator, but then accusing him of being corrupted. Also the armour and sword of Maric would kill him as he wore it if he were corrupted, as it is blessed by the Makers Servants to burn corruption, taint and anything unholy. It is also common knowledge that Maric is a high priority target the Undead wish to eliminate. Maric was once accused of being an undead, however it turned out to be an Undead plot itself! If anyone should be questioned on corruption would it be not the Emperor himself? His own son turned to the Undead, if he is not involved in it then it has left a lasting psychological impact on his soul and must abdicate and retire to seek spiritual help.
