The Kingdom of Renatus

The Kingdom of Renatus is the free Kingdom of the Heartland, the Heartlander people being one of the largest populations of humans in the world. It is a Kingdom run under Heartlander Traditions of Honour and Justice. It has a longstanding tradition involving its Nobility, being home to some of the oldest noble families in existence.

 

 

The Monarchy

 

The Monarchs of the Realm are the heads of state both legally and spiritually, having the most power in the realm they are the sole owners of the lands of Renatus. They have the sole right to claim lands and titles back from the Nobility however this is rarely exercised as it is frowned upon in the free Kingdom of Renatus. The Monarchs both King and Queen currently have a dual Monarchy, both Monarchs sharing equal power and status. Neither of the two Monarchs are consort to each other.

The Kings Council

The Kings Council are the advisers and administrators of the reigning Monarchs, their motto “To serve, not to rule.” refers to the fact that anyone of any class, be it commoner or noble, can attain a seat on the Council if they prove their worth in merit. There are seven potential seats on the Council, the Monarchs taking two of the seats. The list of the Councillors excluding the Monarchs are:

The Royalty

 

The Royalty of the realm are the Princes and Princesses that make up the children of the reigning monarchs. They can also include the brothers of the Kings side of the family and nephews of the King. The Royalty of the Kingdom of Renatus is bound by law to have the reigning monarch after the death of King Maric I to have what is known as “The Blood of the Dragon” which essentially means there must be significant blood relation to House Horen (specifically the line of Godfrey Horen, the Red Dragon) and its current patriarch to rule the Kingdom of Renatus. Once relation goes as far as three generations an individual will be considered to no longer hold the blood of the dragon.

The Nobility

 

The Nobility of the realm is made up by the old families of Renatus with some dating back to the original founding of Renatus during the Phoenix Rebellion. To become Noble it takes blood relation and a patent of Nobility to prove your blood in the Kingdom of Renatus. The Nobility in Renatus steward the lands of the Kingdom, as it is seen legally in Renatus that the Nobilities hold their land holdings on a lease from the Crown, essentially giving the Crown the right to seize lands and titles if a Noble commits a crime. The Nobility come under one of two titles, that of Teyrn and Lord.

 

 

The Teyrns

 

There are only two Teyrns of Renatus, the Teyrn of Vinmark and the Teyrn of Alamar. The Teyrn is a replacement title of Duke, the word Teyrn has similar meaning in old and ancient tongues of the original Heartlanders in the times of the first Horen Kings. Alamar being one of the Teyrnirs is held by the King of Renatus having the Lords in the Teyrnir directly under his vassalage and the other is held by a Noble and passed down through a hereditary line.

The Lords

 

When the Rebels of Renatus banded together in defense of what was then merely the idea of a free Kingdom of Renatus, they decided among each other that titles such as Baron, Count and Marquis only inspire rivalry and hatred among brothers, that it had been used to turn so many Heartlanders against each other in the past. It was decided that the only title of Nobility will be “Lord”. Lords are sworn under the two Teyrns, although being sworn under one of the Teyrns makes one a Royal Vassal and the other of the Teyrnirs of Vinmarks ruling family.

The Gentry

 

The Gentry being the freeholders and Knights of the Realm. The Freeholders being independent Landowners in Renatus. The Knights being warriors of gentlebirth, having dedicated themselves to combat and defending the realm from injustice.

The Clergy

The Clergy include the monks, priests and bishops that are assigned to the Kingdom of Renatus by the Church of the Canon. The Kingdom of Renatus current adheres to the tenets of the Church of the Canon and recognizes Daniel I as the legitimate High Pontiff of the Church of the Canon.
