Fili's Speech

Fili steps forward to give his speech in the town square, amid the throngs of dwarves who mingle there. He climbs up on one of the side staircases, and stands before the crowd, calling for silence. As the crowd simmers down, he begins to speak.

“My fellow dwarves, I stand before you today as a candidate for king. In the past, I know you have seen dwed thinking themselves high and mighty stand before you, preaching to you why they deserve your vote, in all of their nobility. Some, may not have even had the heart to look into the eyes of the people they were trying to sway.’

“I am here today to tell you, I am not one of those dwarves. I stand before you as an equal. A humble, hardworking dwarf, who is loyal to his kingdom, and loyal to his comrades. I believe that the government should work for it’s people, not the other way around. If you elect me as your leader, I promise to hear the petitions of all my fellow dwarves. I promise to listen to all of your complaints, concerns, and opinions, regardless of class, occupation, or social status.’

“I will do the best I can to please all in my kingdom. I know what it is like to be ignored, probably more than anyone. And, I know the sting that is felt when someone uses the idea that was yours, and takes all the credit. I know how helpless one feels when you see people you hardly know making decisions that decide your lives.’

“I have seen weak kings, afraid of their own shadows, like Indago. I have seen rash kings, too quick to reach for the sword, like Midgor. I see myself as somewhere in between. I put peace before violence, but when my people are in danger, I am not afraid to take up arms, and fight for what is right.’

“I have seen corruption among the councils. Vile dwarves, whispering words of honey, but in reality they only attract the bees. I hope to end these days of treachery, and return our kingdom to the glory days. To a time when our nation was feared by it’s enemies, to a time where our nation was revered by its allies. I humbly stand before you today, I implore you for your vote, and I promise that you will not regret lending me your support. Together, we can muscle through these hard times, and emerge into an era of prosperity!

"Aye, of course" Fili replies "I will do all in my power to dig our nation out of the trench it has fallen in"
