You reap what you sow: A Shades tale

A scientist, sorcerer, and engineer- an interesting combination of theory, functionality, and chaos all combined into one. Kalameet had always been curious, however often times this curiosity was to his, and others dismay. Following the closing of his teenaged years, Kalameet had finished his years of toiling and usurpation, focusing now on the impending doom which was his Shade, an infection which pledged his soul. Although the infection offered a boon of power and ability to harness energy, he was at a loss of mental stability, feeling compelled to create mad inventions and commit dastardly deeds.

Years had passed, and drawled on, his condition only worsening as life continued. He had created magical marvels via Arcane Engineering, such as the Mana Obelisk. The first Obelisk which was created had been unstable, unpredictable; this lead to an unfortunate event, it had tore the Mages Guild in half. Although these points relatively moot in regards to the tale to come, it does set a precedent; although wildly creative and holding an inventor's mind, Kalameet often times doesn’t calculate the outcome of his ever meddling nature.

Wanderers, Sorcerers, and Delvers aheap

Have but one thing between them the same:

When curious minds prod just a bit too deep

Are the world's machinations truly to blame?

Is it their tests, their lessons, their thoughts sublime

That lead these haughty minds to and fro?

All that is known, from the endless passage of time

Is a warning should be heeded:

You reap what you sow.

Maybe twenty years had passed, and Kalameet’s escapades had abruptly ended after his journey into the Kal’varak. His mental condition stabilized, he took to Arcane Engineering in hopes of perfecting his arcane devices, creating means of bettering life for others. This had lead into research regarding reusable energies, although mana served this purpose well enough, he had presumed there was even better alternatives. Perhaps, that of which makes the Shade function could be suitable… a ridiculous notion of course, however this was Kalameet’s nature.

With the aid of ritualistic magics, and a kind gift from an Itheral being, he was armed with the necessary tools to create a magnificent ritual, or a grand mistake. Months of preperation, years of study and prudent focus; harness the energy which is the Shade, remove it, and incase it in a black soul gem. Kalameet believed he was about to make a great discovery, he would harness chaotic energy, a being whose design was to corrupt, and infect ones mind; the Shade was silent, unable to lash out at he who conquered it.

The ritual was prepared, those who gathered to aid Kalameet in his mission were sprawled around the circle of power, the Itheral ichor fuel to the great symbols of blood. Runes of Power, Drain, Binding, Dark, and Ethereal; all laid out in preparation for the coming culmination of energy and dark, the crystal laid in the center of the ritual circle, a perfect conduit to contain Kalameet’s Shade. With arms raises, he glides a clean blade across his palm, blood boils, a red smoke rises from his instantly cauterizing wound, the red mist swirls, swarms and bellows, the glowing icor suddenly blooms with an intense light; the soul gem begins to blacken, a thick dark smog fills the gem, it too glows with intense heat, smoldering, cracking… something was wrong.

A great explosion rips through the gem, black shards begin to fire like rockets in all directs, Kalameet no doubt being pierced by the projectiles, falls to the ground screaming in agony. The black soul gem now obliterated, the rituals closest target was now Kalameet- being rebound to his soul, all seemed for naught… but then, it happened. From all corners of Athera, the Shades of the old Coven would feel a change, a painful alteration to their Shades, vibration and chaotic screams course through their heads; and soon, their powers fade into a combination of torment and sorrow. Although unsure of what happened, Kalameet laid wounded, being cared for by those present, he was soon to learn what he had wrought… A new era of Shades had begun.

This is an event which will be occurring for the Shades. For those who're not present in the Shade chat, your Shade would feel distraught, it would no longer function at its core, no longer offering its boon, therefor no functioning magic. Those with a Shade are now ultimately cursed with only the negative effects of the Shade,. Your character may feel drawn to the Shade Fathers for answers.

((Great read!... Only thing that I would say wasnt amazing was the music choice... The Aldia soundstrack would've been alot more fitting...))

"Oh...Oh my..."

Lorien's eyes burst open, and his meditative pose falls apart as he gasps.

"What...Ugh..."

A hand is outstretched, and eyebrows are furrowed...a minute passes, nothing happening, and then another minute, filled with realisation.

"Kalameet! The others!"

The elf leaps up, whistling a piercing cry for a messenger bird.

"What is happening...What is wrong?"
