Cracker 4570 Share Posted June 20, 2015 Upon the hallowed grounds of the Fursten monastery, the five Pentarchs of the Ecclesiastical Synod convene together. A lowly monk, sullen of face, permits them entry but bars their exit. Only he holds the key to the Synod chambers and is expressly forbidden to grant it to any of the Pentarchs, who must remain in council until a new High Pontiff is named. "With the death of High Pontiff Daniel I, a new High Pontiff must be named among you. He must attain a majority vote among the Pentarchs, three votes of five. The voting will continue until a Pentarch rises to the bear the golden laurels of Horen; write your vote on a slip of paper and grant it to me, and we shall cycle through until the Creator's hand names one of you Pontiff!" The Pentarchs come together, beginning to discuss and debate who should rise to become Vicar of GOD... ______________ ( Please only post if you are Haribo Firestar Snowshovel Pheonix33 Jachun Man5791 Thank you)

Major Dom 1297 Share Posted June 20, 2015 Gerald stands and speaks to the synod: "My brothers in faith, I stand before you to announce my intentions as the possible future Pontiff of our most holy church. I believe that I have the experience to lead our beloved church to a new period of devotion and peace. I have prayed for some time and have come to a series of goals that I hope to lead the church, namely an increase in visibility and public sermons as well as more vocations and teaching power of our priests. I know God will do what his best for us all and I pray that he inspires you to do the same." He then writes a vote down on a slip of parchment and hands it to the nearby monk before sitting down. John Ivory 4547 Share Posted June 20, 2015 Theodosius of Fursten enters the council, acknowledging the cardinals gathered there. He mutters a soft prayer. “I admired him very much so. He was my mentor. I remember the very first day I met him. We found him on the road, and my entire entourage of family and friends were forced to halt him with force, because he seemingly ignored my admittance into acolyteship for the longest time. He always muttered that he had thought that he accepted his relative Fyodor the Egg-head into our Church, not I. May he be granted paradise in the heavens.” He hands his vote to the humble monk which is receiving them, and makes way to his seat. He remains risen, however, and presents himself to the gathered chamber. He clearly has prepared for this moment. “They know me as the one who took years to write his thesis. That is true, in-part. It took me a very long time; however, I have my reasons. I never focused on a single part of my thesis. I looked to the broader picture, and then consolidated my mind when necessary. I, unlike others, spent long and hard work studying our neighbors in order to generate an excellent and proper analysis that was published in my work of the godlessness of Elves. I would like to make it known that I do plan to launch myself into this most unfortunate election. I do seek to be the successor to the late Daniel. I see his legacy as strong, but I must electrify it. I seek to enter the Papacy into a golden age of theology never before seen… of thought, faith, and unity under God. The Church as we know it has seen better days. We have seen better. There has been better. We have begun to see dwindling attendance, a lesser influence as the secular authority’s power centralizes, and less of the previous scholarly thought that the previous holy temple once had. We must repair this. I have analyzed several problems I have seen within Lord’s house, and I shall address them now. We have become spread thin. Our Church, rather than consolidating, has with the growing Orenian territorial expansions expanded itself, without the proper focus necessary to keep the faith strong. We have expanded dioceses and constructed churches that are yet nay’r put to use and lay in defiance to our Holy God. The churches we have constructed become slothful, and in defiance to the Lord spit upon the very virtue of diligence that we so praise. In order to become once more efficient in administering our churches, I do so call for reform. I wish to consolidate our territory, and begin to focus primarily on the cathedrals which are used. I shall seek counsel with our secular counterpart, the good King Olivier of Oren, in order to curry the ability to integrate our Church as much as possible into every-day Orenian society. We must use the Orenian capitals to our advantage, and we must focus our works into the prosperous cities that are bustling with activity. We must take advantage of merchants, burghers, lords and ladies who have the influence to increase the attendance of our masses, and use them to garner more faithful. Attendance of mass is a crucial part of our Church. It is what keeps the faithful believing in the Good Word and proves to be a very interesting part, in fact the most important part, about our Church. Without mass, we would be nothing, we would be but a scholarly organization and nothing else. In order to increase church attendance and spread of the faith, I would like to introduce a quota system that will make it necessary for our men of the cloth to give mass a certain amount of times every year, in order to ease the burden on individual priests but to make efficient a system which has fallen into disrepair. Another illness involving ‘activity’ within the Church is the dwindling numbers of those who have interest in theological matters. We must begin to curry interest within the Church, in order to recruit more men and women into our temple, to deliver the Good Word which the Lord gives to us. We must begin to speak with noble families of Oren and other nations in order to see if any second or third sons would have interest in our Church, bringing not only more souls but prestige to the Church. I would like to begin codifying official theological laws. I have found it an error within our Church that, even with all the restrictions, not a single law is written properly. How are we to address heresies? How are we to address anything of important? We must create a solidified theological addressment to all necessary issues within the Church, in order to make more decisive our decisions. We must begin to work more heavily with secular authorities, in order to properly address heresies and heathenries which are abundant in our world, and in order to keep pure the system and nations we live in. We must work with these authorities to deliver sentences to those who fall under religious matters. I plan to work alongside the good King Olivier of Oren and other nations to create pontifical courts, in order to address matters pertaining to our Church, to deliver just sentences to those deserving.” With that, Theodosius takes a drink of water from a nearby fountain. He clears his throat. “These ideas are but a fraction of what I seek to change within the Church. They will argue that I am without experience, but I assure you that this is false. I have personally studied under the watch of the late Daniel for years and years, and have been developing my own theological opinions for more. I am a man of my word and a diligent one, and will bring the bounties of Heaven to the earth below us. His will be done.” He ends his dialogue, and takes a seat besides Branaford.
Jachnun 566 Share Posted June 20, 2015 Stands up from his seat looking to the other members of the council, he promptly hands his note to the monk as he sits down he remarks to the attendants, "I must voice my support for young Theodosius. He has shown great promise over his short time as a member of our fine and respectable clergy, his quick promotion to our Synod must entail some promise to you all does it not? I have seen much dedication from him for a young man such as himself and I shall like to see how far he can reach in his abilities."

Cracker 4570 Author Share Posted June 20, 2015 From within the council chambers, the hooded monk begins to count the votes, reading them aloud. "Gerald of Rosemoor." "Theodosius of Fursten." "Gerald of Rosemoor." "Theodosius of Fursten." He pauses for a moment having difficulty reading the handwriting of the final vote. With a grunt, he casts all the votes aside and calls for an immediate revote. The Pentarch repeat their votes without question and resubmit their votes. "Gerald of Rosemoor." "Theodosius of Fursten." "Gerald of Rosemoor." "Theodosius of Fursten." ...."Theodosius of Fursten." The votes are cast into the fires of the second chamber; a High Pontiff named. From outside, white smoke wafts to the heavens from the Fursten monastery as spectators rejoice.
