Delrof 381 Share Posted July 3, 2015 A few weeks back I was rping with my characters bastard son. In the story behind how he was brought up the bastard mentioned of how my character allegedly raped his mother (This didn't actually happen in RP as it is of course against the rules, but we thought bringing it up as a misconception/rumour would be okay) though to our surprise an admin came to us and told us that even that wasn't allowed which first of all meant we had to slightly alter what the bastard thought in the story, though I remember this specific admin saying something along the lines of 'Rape doesn't exist, it's like thinking of a lightbulb in this time, your character can't think of it' now I am aware that this server is PG-13 and I accept the fact that ic rape is banned for obvious reasons though I think the fact that your character can't even think of it is a little over the top perhaps, especially among the more gritty, realistic and darker rpers. Birdwhisperer 1174 Share Posted July 3, 2015 Think of it this way. Rape is against the rules, so it can't happen. However, there are plenty of characters who could feasibly do it if they wanted to. If they thought of it, there's really nothing stopping them from trying besides an OOC rule. As much as I hate to agree with both of ye, yer both damn right. With the motifs as they are, and, pretty much, popularization of more grimdark topics in fantasy, such as the eponymous HBO series based on GRRM's saga, kids pretty much know there's a big bad world around them. Point is in showing them doing what in RP and OOC is right and doing what is wrong rather then giving them a rubber ball to run inside of like a bunch of lonely hamsters. I get that it shouldn't be RPed here, but having it be part of a backstory or a reference shouldn't be bannable. That's actually kind of disgusting. Extreme gore is not allowed. Race-related crimes and religious persecution bring dynamic RP and conflict. Rape is just really, really fucked up and only "benefits" one party. That's why I agree with IC rape being banned, but I still think it should be allowed in a backstory, it can really shape a character that way. A lot of people only RP race-related crimes and religious persecution for their own personal morbid benefit to feel more powerful than another, something they can't achieve IRL. If the fact that these RP topics such as racism related hate crimes bring dynamic RP in this world, despite being serious, on-going issues which effect our youth in the real world, then you could make the same argument for rape. Rape can develop a character and be a dynamic RP. Now massive disclaimer, this is merely theoretical food for though, I am NOT advocating we make it okay to RP. I can understand the part where it's too "fucked up" for LoTC's ratings. I suppose people are more squeamish to depicted sex offenses more than depicted bloodshed.
